In that 'number 10' role he is so adept at.  Looking at that team and the bench full of youngsters we have I really do worry now.  Prove me wrong lads!

Playing one of the 'elite' and it's back to Heskey in the midfield eh?

Hmmm, beer in the sunshine or watching us try and keep the score down......?

When i saw the gallery on the OS yesterday with Heskey training I figured it was just a matter of time that he was brought back in. I imagine he'll play just behind Gabby, or he'll play the lone role up front with Gabby and Ireland just behind and either side.

I'll be glad when he's gone not because I don't like him, but just so we never have to discuss him again. Let's hope he does the business today.
Title: Re: Arsenal v Aston Villa Match Thread

My logical conclusion is that Heskey's playing on his own up front, with Gabby and Marc on the wings, though I get a funny feeling I'm completely wrong - 'logical' is not exactly an accurate description of our team selection this season so far.

Agreed.  He'll do what he does well and that's defend set pieces and win a few headers.  Stranger things have happened than him tearing up a defence, but not many.

Fucking cowardice once more. In a game like this what is wrong with going for it with Bannan or Gardner?

Take the game to the opposition instead of lumping it in fear.

It doesn't matter where Heskey plays because with him included, we are down to ten men.

To be fair, we have'nt got a great deal of options, Weimann is the only logical replacement, and i'm not sure Arse away is the right place to make his full debut.

Heskey will be gone in the summer, time to judge then i think.
Title: Re: Arsenal v Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: PaulWinch again on March 24, 2012, 02:27:15 PM
Heskey shouldn't be selected under any circumstances, it's nothing against him personally but he's not good enough. He also has a detrimental impact on the rest of the team, Mcleish doesn't help himself.

The one thing McLeish is good at is shooting himself in the foot. He could have been brave today and put in a youngster such as Johnson, Weimann, Bannan or Gardner. Instead, he puts in a not very good player who is the very epitome of yesterday's man.

I just hope that Heskey is able to confound his critics and that we actually approach this game in a manner belied by the selection.

Sorry, but this bloke repeatedly makes me embarrassed to be a villa fan. His defeatist clelessness against the clubs he sees as giants is horrible to watch.

It is in his DNA.

The club won't be getting any more of my money until he is gone. I can't accept us not trying to win matches. It is the bare minimum.

And if anyone us going to give me the "what sort of fan are you" line, I don't care.

35 years I've been going and I have seen some awful villa sides but ivenever seen a manager as spineless as this coward.

We're back in the O'Leary era

It's worse than that. I never felt we would go down, even in O'Leary's final season. O'Leary left us with players like Bouma and Laursen.

What will eck's legacy be? I don't think he will ever turn this around. Things have become worse and worse all season and we are really close to dropping. Thank Fook for Weimann against Fulham.

I fear that goal has lulled us into a false sense of security when the fans should be going for the bloody mans jugular. Totally inept.

At least it gave us two extra points. I'd hate to face the next few games with two points less.

I could cry. This is all so upsetting and hard to take.

No you are wrong, that GOAL showed that we are back and can compete with the likes of Wigan and Fulham.  We just have to accept that we are not fit to be on the same pitch as the big 6 or 7.
Get used to it because the fuckwit of an owner has employed a fuckwit of a manager to do fuck knows what to our club.
It's not Randys heart I am questioning it's his head, he just ain't using it.

Hear Hear. I can't see any end to this nightmare that doesn't involve relegation. What is the owner's bottom line? What the hell is his definition of failure? How low do we have to go before he considers it necessary to sack a manager? What is his vision of Aston Villa? Does he think this bag of shit is good enough for a club of Aston Villa's stature?

If he has lost interest then he should sell up. There was 130 years of tradition here before he showed up.

Quality, quality, quality........we have Albrighton, they have Walcott, they have Song, we have Petrov.

The ball , and run for the 2nd goal is something the 2 Villa players are not capable of.

For me, theres no point in continuing with Petrov and Albrighton, get Gardener on for Petrov, and either Weimann or Bannan foe Albrighton.Nothing to lose, plenty to learn about their attitude.

I actually think we started off well, but 3 opportunities with Albrighton at 0-0, and nothing to show for it.

You will be able to measure the level of the manager' negativity very soon.   Any half or even quarter decent manager would make changes at half time.   He should bring on Bannan Weimann and Gardner for the whole of the second half but he will not.   His first substitution will come at 60 minutes when they score their fourth goal then at 75 minutes and Weimann will come on in the 88th minute.

He is a percentage player and my guess is that Lerner has offered him a survival bonus which he is determined to get regardless of all other considerations.

He is a percentage player and my guess is that Lerner has offered him a survival bonus which he is determined to get regardless of all other considerations.
Totally agree Brian, he's Mister Safety first and it wouldn't surprise me if there is £££ involved for survival.

So, I took my dog for a walk because I really couldn't be arsed to watch today. Before coming on here I thought I'd check the BBC site for the score and stats. I had a fear it could be bad. But fuck me. We may as well just handing them a white flag in the tunnel and saved everyone the trouble. This kind of utter bollocks does my head in to no end.

I'm honestly at the point of jumping on the get this fucker out bandwagon. Not sure how much more I can take of this.

I was in my local town earlier and this woman was talking to her friend chatting away, she had her dog, a sausage dog on a lead, you know the kind, this big German Sheppard comes over and tries to give it one, while it was on the lead, woman didn't do a thing carried on talking while her little black and tan sausage was getting a right seeing to.

Could be an analogy for RL's ownership of villa. Standing there talking as it gets given a good seeing too.

I still think there's a player in Albrighton. He's too much of a confidence player and I think he needs good management and coaching. If there is one thing McLeish has proved it is that he's poor at bringing on attacking players.

It's so heart breaking. If MoN had had a Director of Football to work with, someone who could negotiate a contract, put players on a contract that fits their ability and age we could have maintained ourselves as a top six club.  Instead we had a situation where he signed shit players on top wages for long contracts that emptied the bank.
That is the frustrating thing for me.  We came so close but the arrogance of those at the top of the club fucked it up and keep fucking it up by refusing to correct another mistake.

The most worrying thing is not that we are where we are, and it isn't that Lerner was stupid enough to appoint this twat in the first place.

It is that he is going to stick with him, and we will have at least anothe two years of this nonsense.

I genuinely don't think he'd bin McLeish even if we went down. That level of head-in-sand behaviour is easily the most worrying thing.

I can't decide if it is sheer fuckwittedness or lack of interest. Sadly, I think it may be both.

We're not operating in a vacuum. The opposition, with far more quality are also attempting to win with better players and they're also bang in-form.
It's the type of game where we have to make the most of the chances we get. If Albrighton had scored that chance early on, all this meaningless talk of ''passion and spirit'' wouldn't be there.  Did Warnock show passion and spirit clearing that shot off the line?

Don't get me wrong, I'm as frustrated by McLeish and our season as much as anyone but sometimes you've got to be realistic. Being outplayed at the Library happens to better teams than us.

I look at it by the amount of games left and we could very easily lose every one of them, then it comes down to the other sides involved, we could easily go down and we are without doubt playing like relegation fodder.

I very much agree with you Paulie that Albrighton's problems are those of inadequate or downright bad coaching.   He is young enough to be cured of the vices of hot headedness and impulsiveness.   The amount of money our young players have saved us in transfer fees and wages merits some of it being spent on a top, top, top coaching team.   If Marc alone can be saved from oblivion it would pay for itself five times over.
