Chelsea want rid. They got him for £11m, whereas we had offered £15m.
Here's the proof.
'After the sacking of his father and uncle Harry Redknapp (the assistant manager and manager of West Ham respectively), Lampard left West Ham United for Chelsea for £11 million, the Hammers having previously declined a £15 million joint bid from Aston Villa for Lampard and Frédéric Kanouté.'
I have heard he is a target, despite the wiki lies.
-
34 soon.
What kind of motivation would he have to do anything for us?

We could boo him if he was crap.
-
Get in.
Looks good in Macron.
-
Always rated Lampard but think he's on the wane these days.
I'm not sure we'd be able to afford his wage demands (or that we should pay them) and whether he'd come to us.
-

*like*
-
He sees it as a chance to resurrect his England career. Apparently his Dad has told him to get out of the limelight for a bit.
-
No way will he move out of the smoke. I could see him joining up with Twitching Uncle Arry
-
But Uncle 'Arry will be off to the England job.
-
larf. more chance of frank lampard Snr joining.
-
Reckon he will be off to MLS soon for one last big pay off.
-
Christ, if we sign the fat fecker the club really will show they haven't got a clue.
-
Agreed.
-
DMF, We didn't offer 15million for Lampard. We offered 15 million for Lampard and Kanoute. It's in the very quotation that you use as proof!!!
-

This. No way on earth he'd ever move to Villa. And anyway, he's fat.
-
If West Ham get promoted, he'll go back there before leaving London.
-
As above , no way would he move out of London to play for a very average club .
He'll either move to LA or go into Coaching I reckon , and I think he's make a damn good Coach.
He's not the way forward for Villa that's for sure .
-
Cant see Christine in Mr Egg after a Saturday night in the Arcadian.
-
Any more has beens on the scene we can get in?
-

Kanoute went to Spurs for £3.5m so was very much a make weight.
-
I think that for that money we should be looking for players who are a few years younger.
-
And anyway, he's fat.
That hasn't stopped us signing players in the past
-
He was brilliant in the World Cup in 2006, he said so himself in his book. I think he's great. Let's get him.
-
Any more has beens on the scene we can get in?
Quite right. We should focus on younger players like Fabian Delph.
-
Given his age and wage demands, this simply won't happen.
-
You old cynics.
He's moving up here to be closer to his best mate Lee Hendrie. It's obvious.
-

Be fair, Daveed wasn't carrying any timber, he showed us all when he took his shirt off
-

If he were a good coach in the making, maybe it would be a good move. We'd get a couple of good seasons out of him whilst he worked his ticket as a coach.
I dunno what I am talking about, really. I'd be real pissed of we signed the twat.
-
i actually met him not long after he went to chelsea, and as an inquisitive villa fan I asked him why he went to chelski ahead of villa (at the time, villa would have been seen as a better move) and he said he was very close to coming to villa and wanted to play under john gregory, but that hed had two bad injuries in his younger days and both were on Villa Park so thought he may be jinxed.............. total truth
-

heh. Can't see that. He's even less popular with West Ham fans than Downing is with us. and not just because he left. The amount of times they used to claim he only got picked because he was related to redknapp
-
I wouldn't want him especially if it stops the progress of someone like Gary Gardner plus his wages would be too much.
-
Tottenham is the obvious one.
Arsenal going in for him wouldn't totally stun me either. It would be a move away from Wenger's policy of only signing young players, but maybe a move he needs to make. Even Manure, for not totally dissimilar reasons.
More than likely at least two of those clubs will be able to offer him CL football too, but will have enough squad depth to rotate him when needed. And at 34 years of age, he will need it.
For us - and for the level of financial commitment it would take to make the deal happen- we'd need him to play virtually every game to make it worthwhile. Plus, if Stan is still here that will be a central midfield with a combined age of 70. What we need is more legs in there, not another steady old pro. For that, and for all the other reasons listed, I just can't see it happening.
-
Wages too high, legs too old,no ta.
-
Man City would sign him.
-
Can't run, can't pass but can shoot? He's an old man's Craig Gardner, no thanks.
-
Still has plenty of quality but needs that strong midfield base around him to allow him to do what he does best - getting forward and threatening the opposition goal. It's the reason Chelsea are struggling to justify a place for him, and the reason he's not suitable for us.
-
Cant see Christine in Mr Egg after a Saturday night in the Arcadian.
If that bag of bones turned side on you wouldn't be able to see her anyway.
-
100% yes. He's got the experience and the footballing brain, and he's a winner, and we need people like that at the Villa, if only for a short time. He can have the same effect as we've all seen Keane having. Get him in and make him captain.
-
I can only imagine the amount of laughter that would come from Lampard if he saw this thread. And from most fans around the country as well.
-
I would be delighted if we signed him. Would give us the drive from midfield and leadership we need while being an excellent influence on our youngsters like Keane has been. We won't though. We'll sign some no mark like Craig bloody Gardner.
-
I'd rather we look abroad and try and find the next Lampard type player who's young and more affordable.
-
No thanks.
-
Wouldn't be completely surprised to see him end up at Old Trafford but all depends on who the Chelsea manager is.
-
Pigs might fly.
-
Do people think that the quote is a recent one?
That's from years ago.
-
Wages too high, legs too old,no ta.
Enough about Christine, What about Lumps?
-
Blimey speculation about Lampard, keane on loan at the moment, Pires last year, are we trying to assemble a 1990s premiership all stars team?
-
I've always been impressed by his A* in GCSE Latin.
-
Robbing Tory bastard so fuck him!
-
Born in Cockneyland, always been based in Cockneyland.
He doesnt travel well playing outside Cockneyland, just look at his performances at any tournament for England.
Name me any cockney who has come to the Villa and done well.

Euro 2004 - three goals in four matches and voted in the team of the tournament.

And with the possible exception of the last game in 2010 against the Germans has not put in a good performance since.

PSG to hook up with Ancelotti. Last big pay day.

Top scoring in the qualifying for the following tournament?
Anyway, it's by the by.
Suggesting he's been hopeless at every tournament is just factually incorrect.
-

He'd certainly do that at VP under AMc ;D
-
Some of the vitriol towards Lampard is ridiculous when you look at his achievements at Chelsea. For a midfield player, he scores bags of goals as well. If he leaves Chelsea, he'll do someone an excellent job for a couple of years.
-
Over the years too many over-paid has-beens have walked through the door at Villa Park looking for one last good contract and an easy life in the last few years of their career. Much as I actually rate Lampard and his achievements, he too would probably fall into that category.

Like how suggestions of Kevin Phillips and Peter Whittingham coming back get rubbished. Both proven goalscorers.
-
I'll take a midfielder with 150 goals under his belt, thank you very much.
-
More likely of getting christine bleakley in the team with these clowns running the ship.

Merson?
-
He is going west to America where a fat 4 year contract will do him.
-
Didn't we have all the same negative comments about our last departure to the States though and look what he did for the team. People want him back. Actually thinking back on it the same comments about age and being past it were also made about Macca and he didn't turn out to be a bad signing.
-

Bobby Charlton it is then.
-
Struggling to understand why anyone wouldnt want a proven goalscoring midfielder who can tackle and create chances with excellent vision and passing ability. He'd be first pick in the current Villa team and most other PL teams regardless of his age. The claims that he's overweight are quite comical too!
Highly unlikely he'd move out of London to struggling Aston Villa anyway.
-
Just remember. You heard it here first.
-
Still can't believe this thread is going. What next:
Hiddink for Villa?
Mourinho for Villa?
Ferguson for Villa?

Management dream team? Just think what they could achieve with Randy's backing..........
-

I'd like him. For the Villa, of course.
*hoping DMcC5 has ITK*
-
Zero chance.
-
I just don't see us signing a bloke who will be 34 in the summer and on massive wages when we supposedly don't have a pot to piss in.
-
Player-manager?
-
get real
-
Zero chance.
I'm not even that optimistic.
-
i thought the transfer window was closed, complete bollocks
