Title: Bent: I want my next 100 goals to be all for Villa.
Post by: N'ZMAV on February 02, 2012, 10:42:00 AM
Darren Bent 100 Goals (http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~2597397,00.html)

So Darren want's to score his next 100 goals for Villa. I doubt he will. Got a feeling he'll be off if we don't match his ambition this summer.

Also felt it was a bit cringeworthy seeing the picture on the big screens after he scored that goal. Or am I being harsh?

Well done to Darren though. Proven Goal Scorer. Hope he's with us for many years to come.

How old is Bent now 29 ?? 30? Maybe he doesn't want to move on.

That is great to hear, and I really really hope he's here for many years to come. If we could replace our entire defence and bring in a new central midfielder and another creative player and play like we did in second half yesterday I think we could be a good side.

Bent is the sort of player we need to build the forward area of the team around, most other teams would kill for a striker who guarentee's goals, as there aren't many around. He'd be frightening in a team like Manchester City or United that creates half a dozen excellent chances a game.

I agree.

So just the 6 players needed then? ;)

Personally, I'd say two new fullbacks and a dominant DCM and would improve us quite a bit!

I'd be happier with a quality defensive or box to box midfielder, a permanent move for Keane and an entirely new back 4 to be honest.
I dont see why we couldn't go for 5 or 6 new players in the summer with as many leaving.

Thats from the O/S I see.

O/S interviewer - "Congratulations Darren. 100 goals. Are you looking forward to the next 100 ?"
Darren - "Yes".
0/S interviewer - "And of course all the next 100 for Villa, Yes?"
Darren - "errr, Yeh."

Is it just one person on there who writes the stories with the`quotes`?
What is the usual protocol ? Clear with senior management before it's put up or trust them not to go too over the top?

Our first natural goalscorer since Dwight Yorke and some people would happily see him gone for a "new" defence.

I think we definitely need 6 players and hopefully we've done a bit of scouting throughout the world and we can get good value and quality.

As I see it the new DCM frees up Clark to play CB.  So once that's done it should stiffen the spine of the side, leaving the fullbacks spots to be sorted, with the other midfield spot being taken by Petrov, Herd or Gardner.  We're looking pretty good going forward, so any combination of Bent, Gabby, Ireland, N'Zogbia, Albrighton and Bannan has goals in it.

And we may have those new fullbacks already at the club.

So I wouldn't knock 6 new faces, but I think we could vastly improve with less.

These supporters are tremendous. When they're behind us like they were in the second half against QPR, they're unbelievable. They lifted us.

We hear this alot from the players and obviously it does do something. I'd be great to have a video montage of all the different players saying words to this affect before kick-off might just gee-up the crowd a bit.

That's if you think Clark can cut it as a top class CB.  He's good on the ball but I think he's too slow and gets pushed around too much to be the CB we need.

At the moment I'd settle for a semi-competent centre-back before I start worrying about whether they are 'top class'.

Having Herd back will help out in protecting the back 4. He chases down everything like a dog with two dicks.

Next season a young brigade of Herd, Gardner, Clark, Johnson, Bannan and Delph will be competing for places in the midfield. I'd like insurance against Stan not lasting to be honest. He's having a renaissance but how long before he's breathing through his arse again? An experienced midfield general would do nicely.

I bet Bent thinks to himself we/I need to score 3 goals to have any chance of winning the game because of our awful defence .

I agree.

I'd be looking for this new player to form a central partnership with one of Clark, Herd or Gardner, with Stan kept for another year as the experienced back up.  Plus, as I mentioned above, having 5 for 2 places is healthy enough that you can use Clark at CB.

Imagine how easy it must be for him to score in training against our lot...

I'd like to see us clear the decks in the summer. With the exception of a few key men and our youngsters I'd like to see quite a few of them go. Even some of the players who've done a good job for us and might still have something to give should go (Petrov and Dunne being the two that spring to mind). Not just the three or four who are out of contract.

Of course the question marks over that will be whether Lerner is prepared to to fund new signings to replace them and whether the likes of Hutton and Warnock will be willing to leave or even if anybody is willing to take them.

Can't for the life of me what gives you any confidence about Bannan Maz, admit he has good control but he is so lightweight.

Semi competent not good enough I'm afraid we need good confident players at the back.
