If You had the management team and the players in front of you, what would you tell them?

We don't care if you have problems with the manager or you don't like the training methods or you wish to be somewhere else. You are living our dream, to be paid huge incomes to play football for the team we love. Villa is our passion and when we see you guys just going through the motions seemingly without any desire to represent the shirt it really pisses us off. There is no excuse for the dismal displays we've been watching over the last few months. Next time you run onto the Villa Park (or any other) pitch have a look around the ground. Every single Villa supporter wishes he/she was you. You are our players. The very least we expect is a total committment to the club.

I'd do me best Arthur Atkinson, ''' 'Ey, where's me washboard. 'ave you seen it?''

Asking for Dalian or Ron in their pomp would be too much but I reckon Arthur could do a decent job defending with that washboard of his.

I would quote them the following from The Aston Villa Miscellany;

"Everytime you come here it must bring back memoriess, Pongo' I said.  He stared out for a long while.  I thought he'd forgotten I was there.  'Aye,' he said suddenly 'aye, they're a great club...the greatest.'  I stood and looked with him, this old man whose goals had set the the Villa crowds roaring long ago.  it was not quite dusk on that March afternoon and I saw them too...they were out again the old ghosts...Jack Hughes scorer just about one hundred years earlier of Aston Villa's first goal ( perhaps to the very day)...George Ramsey...the Hunter brothers...Willie McGregor...Denny Hodgetts...legion upon legion of them on parade now, filling the field with claret and blue...the century with pride."

Then promptly tell them  that's what it means to us all!  If they are not prepared to show the pride that those above had for Aston Villa then pack your bags.  We don't want you either!!!!

Mr McLeish, I know wages are tight, but let Heskey go on a free and sign 2 full backs with the wage options please. Any fuckers that know how to defend. At which point I would turn to Warnock and Hutton, shake my head and tell them to fuck off out of my club, useless, spineless knobs.

Addressing Heskey, I would tell him not to be upset, but he is as much use as a fart in a lift, and someone (MON) is bound to want him somewhere.

Let's be honest, the vast majority of them wouldn't give a shit what was said to them by anybody. They're all a bunch of overpaid, over hyped, unintelligent, arrogant arseholes.
The only players who I would suggest might have a degree of hurt this evening would be Albrighton, Gabby and Gary Gardner.

I agree with that. We have become Comfort Zone F.C. a sort of knackers' yard for not particularly good players and management. A place where they need not worry about a thing before picking up a fat salary. Make a bad mistake that contributes to costing a game? Don't worry about it! Pick up your £50K a week. They don't expect to win the FA cup or be in danger of winning a trophy so what does it matter just as long as we stay treading water in midtable.

Where would you start? I'd let the kids leave the room to go and think about the game themselves. I'd hold our senior players back and say the following:

I'd remind them that our club has a rich history and that we have always been among the élite of English football.I'd ask them how many European cups Arsenal have won?

I'd ask them if they think that they have lived up to our illustrious history over the past two seasons or if they think they have given our fans their money's worth. I'd ask if they think that sort of capitulation is acceptable when they earn ££££s each week? I'd fine them all (our 'senior' players that is) two weeks ages. Anybody who had a problem with it would be placed on the transfer list, with immediate effect.

I'd tell them I'd rather have the kids  on the field, or even 11 donkeys who were prepared to burst themselves for Aston Villa, than have any of those wasters.

I'd ask him to promise that he will let whoever is our manager completely restructure the squad in the summer. He might need to take a hit on some players like Hutton, Warnock and  possibly even N'Zogbia as I'm not sure it's going to work out. In the long-term it'd be worth taking a financial hit this summer , that is unless he'd be happy to see us in the Championship within 18 months.

I'd  also ask him not to sanction new contracts for Heskey and Beye. I'd ask him to set aside at least £20m to rebuild our defence.

Well I've read some stupid stuff in my time but that has to take the biscuit, I personally have been looking forward to waiting too see what our starting line up will be and not having to worry about Emile being included. I wish the guy no ill and hope he plays for another few seasons, injury free but just not for us. I want the best for us ( or the best we can afford) but Emile just is not it.

One of the reasons we're not exactly attractive is the huge mess that Lerner has made of the finances.  The club's net value is less than when Ellis sold up.

only difference between risdale and Lerner is deeper pockets. They both totally wrecked their club's fortunes for years by taking their eye off the ball.. If Lerner was employed by rather than owned the club he would have been sacked

Even Leeds didn't go down overnight.  Lerner's no better a businessman than Ridsdale, he was just lucky enough to inherit more money.  It takes a special kind of imbecile to lose that much money though, and actually make the club worth less than when he bought it.

Yet the common agreement is Lerner bought Villa on the cheap, so must be worth more now than then. Either way, it's irrelevant. Football clubs are worth what someone is prepared to pay. It would be very interesting to see how much a new owner would invest.

Lerner abdicated responsibility for transfers and fucked up with his own money.

I think that, on balance, Lerner has been a good owner. I think the criticism of him can be a bit harsh sometimes. However, he has his failings and right now they are costing us. He hasn't surrounded himself with people who know the game. Hence we have messed up replacing MON (Have we really replaced him yet?) and we appear to have no strategy. We don't have any leadership at the club and it feels like we are drifting rather than building.

Ultimately, we are headed to a dangerous place. We need to arrest the slide and fast. There needs to be some fresh thinking, starting with the appointment of competent advisers/officers whatever you want to call them.
Title: Re: If you could go into the dressing room after todays game, what would you say
Post by: Risso on January 29, 2012, 11:06:34 PM
Well as I say, the club's net assets are less than in Ellis's last year, thanks to the huge losses of the last two years.  So while you may be happy that Lerner has spent a lot of money, the fact is he has wasted most of it, and that waste coupled with the fact that he doesn't want to spend any more means that we are heading back to where we were when he took over.  Selling our better players and seeing midtable mediocrity as something to aspire to.

What worries me is that the return to mediocrity has occurred at a rate which outstrips the speed with which we regained our pride from 2006 onwards.

It's very hard not too look at the club now, at the amounts of money spent (and this isn't just a dig at Lerner), at what we've got now and where we are, plus where we are going to be given their new strategy, and feel very disappointed.

I keep saying this but were a malevolent force to have come down from space last summer with the mission of sucking the lifeblood, hope, and ambition out of Aston Villa, I don't think it could have taken a more productive course than Lerner has in that same time.

Well intentioned he may be, but he's proving in two different sports, several thousand miles apart, that he doesn't have the first clue how to run a sports business.

bottom line is Lerner didn't have a clue what he was doing. All that bobbins about no transfer budget the General and his disciples used to parrot to us all when we questioned why we had so many high paid non-playing reserves has all come home to roost. Whether its his money he wasted, or just money he'll claw back off us over the next 10 years is beside the point. We now have a smaller squad, and more debts than Doug's last season. He really should look to sell

Indeed Greg.  Plus we had General Krulak coming out with bollocks like "the losses were all part of the plan and what we expected."  Only for O'Neill to flounce off and Lerner to burn the cheque book faster than Harry Redknapp with HMRC knocking at the door.

yep. god knows what they were thinking. I can only surmise MON guaranteed he'd have us in the CL by 2011, so the losses would be offset by the influx of bigger prize money sponsership etc.. Utter madness pinning the clubs future on that.

I would tell a few of them that they are twats and then I would probably urinate on Mcleish. Today I have nothing but disdain for the rash behaviour of Dunne, the sheer headless chicken wank that we have to put up with from Warnock, the pointlessness of Hutton and the smugness of the entire Arsenal Football club. And the media wankfest over that overrated bunch of screbs wearing the Arsenal shirt. Wenger is a prick and it will be a pleasing sight to see the back of him. Van Persie should keep his elbows to himself also-what a depressing day. Fuck them all as harsh as it sounds. Half time was the happiest I have felt all season regarding Villa. Then I would roll on the floor and hide under a shoe........it was a long night after that game, and then up at 7am to teach 21 kids English.Safe to say that they did not have an enthusiastic teacher this morning.

The very least we expect is a total committment to the club.

only difference between risdale and Lerner is deeper pockets. They both totally wrecked their club's fortunes for years by taking their eye off the ball..

"Totally wrecked"??
There goes that hyperbole again. Last time I looked we were mid-table in the Premiership and in no danger of going into administration.
So what Lerner has done is scale down his spending in order to keep the club stable, that may annoy those of you who think we should be winning things (it irks me but that's the reality), but "totally wrecked"? No.

What a question ! I just wish that I had the chance to vent my feelings to the team and especially my old mate Alex. Fristly I would ask Alex to leave the room as if he started to cry having been shouted it it would just not be right would it? Secondly I would ask the players if they really wanted to wear the Villa shirt or as with most of them they only turn up for the money. Thirdly I would confront Alex and ask why he was wrecking not only the team but also the club as a whole. On the way to the ground there is no atmosphere whatsoever it's more like going to a bleeding funeral rather than a football match. The bloke must have such thick skin as not to realise its all going tits up. How much longer if it hasn't been long enough already are we supposed to be going to the match with no repsect for the manager at all.
Will look forward to the AM fan club replying to my comments.

Sorry, how is he wrecking the club overall. Surely the person who appointed him then hasn't backed him as that responsibility. Also, apart from Hutton, how has he wrecked the team? Dunne, Warnock and Collins were playing just as badly last season in places. And with injuries and lack of funds, we can't replace them, or other players who aren't performing.

well it depends on your ambitions for the club. I suppose being a lower midtable club who has to sell all their decent players every few years is something to aim for, but honestly for that we could have kept Ellis if we wanted to become a wigan or a blackburn. Way i see it, I wouldn't bet against Leeds finishing above us in a few years time in the premiership which says more about our decline than their rise from the ashes.

It's not something to aim for and it's not something I want, I'd like to win things and be good.
But it's where we are currently and it's not "totally wrecked".
Darlington are totally wrecked, Leeds were totally wrecked, Portsmouth, Lincoln, Stockport, and very soon, Small Heath are totally wrecked. Villa are just a bit mediocre at the moment, cut the hyperbole (not just you) and I'll take your comments more seriously.

No, but the trends we were seeing under both manager and chairman had us heading in worrying direction.

I think we're in a better state know as we actually have some very good players at the club, but poor defending and inconsistency is costing us.  Blame the manager for that if you like, but I do think we need less now than the wholesale changes of 2006.

And lets not forget that it was only 12 months ago that we bought Darren Bent.  I'm of the opinion that we get the wages where we want them and then start building again, but we'll have to wait until the summer to find out if that's right or not.

No way will Lerner start spending big again. The Bent signing was purely an emergency measure to prevent us getting relegated and making his investment worth even less.  We've made huge losses, and there's still the small matter of tens of millions of loans that need to be repaid.  Anybody expecting us to do anything other than tread water even after the current cutbacks is going to be disappointed.

You may be right, but I'm taking the 'wait and see' line on it.

I'm not expecting spending of the scale we saw when he first arrived, but a release of some of the Downing/Young money and that being spent on up and coming players.

Indeed Chico, that money will all be long gone, wasted on wages for players like Beye, Heskey and Jenas, buying the likes of Hutton and N'Zogbia, not to mention compensation pay outs in respect of O'Neill, Hullier and McLeish.  As Paulie said earlier, if you really hated Villa and set out to knacker them, you'd struggle to do as good a job of it as Lerner has over the last year or so.

You're out the club if you don't improve? erm nope he's not because we can't afford to pay him off and we haven't got anyone else anyway and can't buy anyone. How about just before the match against QPR Randy Lerner walks into the dressing and hands Alex his P45?

Now wouldn't that solve some issues ? And just think the AM fan club (not all of you out there before I get anymore replies) would then be able to go back down their little holes.

How about just before kick off tomorrow evening Randy Lerner enters the dressing room and says " Alex I'm really sorry but I made a huge mistake I thought you were Mark Hughes" and now that Mark Hughes will be in the next dug out would you mind swopping? Just think how f**ked off the QPR fans would be then.

I bet all the AM fan club could then become QPR fans as they dont really mind who AM manages

DazzyG, your posts physically hurt my brain to read. The lack of logic, the poor grammar and absolutely dreadful punctuation really do belong somewhere like Keep Right On. You'd fit right in there. Like them you are driven by a hatred of your local rivals greater than the love you feel for your own team. I'm no fan of McLeish. I have serious reservations about his style of play and his abilities but in spite of that I hope he succeeds. You do not. Reading your posts since Sunday's horrific capitulation make it seem like you can barely contain your glee at the fact that we, the team you purportedly support , lost enabling you to prove a sad little point against people on here. There are noses and albion who seem to hate Villa less than you. I can picture you now watching those seven horrific minutes where our last chance of silverware this season was pissed up the wall and unlike most Villa rather than rage you were probably wanking yourself off at the excitement and enjoyment of being (in your sad little world) being proved right. You really are a sad little wanker.

You do not. What a question ! I just wish that I had the chance to vent my feelings to the team and especially my old mate Alex. Fristly I would ask Alex to leave the room as if he started to cry having been shouted it it would just not be right would it?

I doubt he would be upset by anything you said. I doubt even more that you would have the nerve to shout at him in the first place After all, you couldn't be bothered to attend a 'mass protest' against him.

ohhhhhhhhh catty or what !!!! Dave the moderator ! as previously mentioned when you are employed the idea is that you turn up for work and do a good shift......maybe AM should take a note and start to win us a few games wouldn't that be a novelty eh?

I've asked you this before, and you've not replied. How is coming straight from work an excuse for turning up early and not hanging around until the time this protest was due to start?

is this AM Fanclub some kind of tribute band to Teenage Fanclub?

Well by the bleeding commenst that some fans are making they are either kids pretending to be adults or they are just thick s**t fans or haven't a clue what they are talking about. Other than that they are Scottish or blue noses on here trying to rile me !!

How about just before the match against QPR Randy Lerner walks into the dressing and hands Alex his P45?

Now wouldn't that solve some issues ? And just think the AM fan club (not all of you out there before I get anymore replies) would then be able to go back down their little holes.

You do know that won't happen don't you? I think only relegation will get him sacked, and none of us want that. Randy (and we'll never know why) thought that McLeish, with his excellent record in Prem management, could do the job for Villa. What kind of a job he wants him to do is up for debate, but he's Randy's man. To be fair to McLeish, Randy should be backing him more, but again, I just don't trust McLeish with the money.

Yep, that's right, no one supports the Villa like you do. This site is all about your relationship with the club, after all.

You're behaving like a childish brat now.
