If we do take it to a replay, we would want Villa Park to be a cauldron like it was when we drew down there with Sammy Morgan being disgracefully sent off. Bob Wilson was to blame for that.

I was stood on the old Witton End for the replay (30/01/74); remember it as if it was yesterday.

Morgan's goal in the replay was one of those ones that could be termed 'sucked in by the crowd'. It was absolute bedlam in there. Bob Wilson lay down until Sammy was sent off at Highbury and then got up and ran round like a spring chicken. He got some stick for it in both games. That was what you call booing.

I was on the Holte for the first time at this game. When I say 'on the Holte' I should mention that my feet were rarely on the ground. Magical night and as BC54 VFC said, it feels like it was yesterday.

Well he's an idiot then.  Our record at the Emirates if he cares to take his head out of his arse is:

Played 5 Won 2 Drew 2 and Lost 1.  The two draws should have been wins as well.  This is the one "big" ground we go to and usually perform and apart from a 20 minute cameo substitute appearance from Fabregas where we got dicked I've never come away from the Emirates feeling we haven't deserved the results we've got.

Come on Villa lets get down there and do them.

She wore, she wore, she wore a claret ribbon........

Especially if they lost out to "plucky, little Aston Villa"

Arsenal, simply because this is the only real chance they have of silverware and they are capable of getting it.

So Arsenal 3-1 Villa

But then I had Wolves down to beat us, that is until i watched the Wolves v Blose game......

If we play the first 45 against Arsenal the way we played the first 45 against Wolves, we'll get hammered, I doubt we'll get the kind of turnaround or decisions to save the day in that one.

Not in the first 45, we where abysmal, but of course you could put that down to Wolves inability to not put the game to bed.

And then of course they got all stupid and Villa stepped up a notch.

And yes Arsenal won't make the same mistakes I agree.

More like we didn't play well from 20-45 minutes. Otherwsie we were good value, regardless of anything else that happened.
Anyway, that's been done to death elsewhere.

Arsenal could make the same mistakes or worse, I honestly dont know what to expect in this match. Both sides are massively inconsistent. It could be utterly turgid or a feast of open attacking football. So I'm going for something in between. My head says we'll lose by a goal but my heart says we'll just nick it.

I think we should pick the best possible team, use the best possible formation and utilise the best possible strategy and tactics. If that doesn't work, we should kick them.

With 110% effort from the team and the fans, I am sure we can get a result.

1-0 to us hopefully

If anyone sees someone in a claret and blue rugby shirt with a number 8 on the back and an old 70s scarf on, accompanied by a woman (my wife) come and say hello! It is always really nice to meet people off here, particularly at away matches as you often have the 'watching Villa from afar' theme in common

Can Ireland and keane play in the same side? I'm struggling to see how they both start in this game at least. You could push Ireland back into petrov's position at home v qpr but can't see us doing that in this game.

I think they can, but it would mean dropping either Gabby or Bent as I think we'll still need a genuine winger in Marc.  I would like to see Clark, Gardner and Ireland as a midfield 3 and Albrighton, Keane and Bent as the front 3.

Dont think so. Ireland, Gardner and Gabby back on the bench for me. Nzogbia back on right and Marc on left

Think we have a good chance actually. If we play both Ireland and Gabby we will be crazily open.

Nice bit of competition for places now. Wait til Emile gets back from injury!!

According to Lawro Arsenal only have to turn up.I feel so much more confident when he predicts us to lose

Arsenal v Aston Villa
Arsene Wenger took a lot of stick from Arsenal fans for that substitution he made against Manchester United when he took off Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with a mystery thigh injury to be replaced by Andrey Arshavin, who of course could not stop United scoring their winner.

The Gunners have now lost three Premier League games on the bounce and the unrest we saw on Sunday is because their supporters are understandably worried about whether they will finish fourth and make the Champions League. Whether they will make it definitely looks touch and go at the moment and it will be a huge blow if they don't.

There is nothing like the same sort of pressure on them in the FA Cup, and I just cannot see Aston Villa stopping them here, no matter what sort of side Wenger picks.

The other good news for Wenger is that two of his injured full-backs, Kieran Gibbs and Bacary Sagna, are not far away from returning, because we saw against United how much he is missing them.

Lawro's prediction: 2-0

If we're talking tactics I'd definitely put Keane in and rest one of Bent and Gabby especially as I'm putting a tenner on him to score first. I'm not sure but doesn't Keane have a very good scoring record against Arsenal?

I'm inclined to go unchanged from the second half team against Wanky Wolves.

Lawrenson is a twat and gets more 'predictions' wrong than right. The sooner they clear him, Alan 'pass and move' Hansen, Shearer and Lineker from the cosy MOTD couch the better. On the strength of Lawrenson predicting us to lose I've changed my view from a draw to a win.

I don't see how you can play Keane as the lone front man. I too would put him on the bench, ready to come on for the last half hour and start Wednesday. I'd play the same side as against Chelsea, but with Bent for CNZ and Gabby wide.

You can not surrender the midfield either, particularly against Arsenal, in terms of hold up play Keane would be more effective than Bent. I would play Allbrighton Clark Petrov Ireland Gabby with Bent or Keane up top.

Who said anything about surrendering midfield? I think Keane and Ireland link midfield and Keane is more of a forward than Ireland so links Bent and Ireland for instance. Playing the 3 is an option with 3 midfielders behind them (Petrov, Clark and Gardner, for instance.
I'm not saying that's what I'd do but its an option, with N'Zogbia, Gabby and Albrighton ready to change it.

Keane isn't an option up front by himself or on the right. He most certainly is not that type of player. Big decision but it should be Keane ahead of Ireland. Albrighton just about did enough to hold onto the left wing space I reckon. Can't see McLeish dropping Gabby but I'd go for Nzogbia if fit or Gardner on the right.

Anyway to have the likes of Gabby and Ireland on the bench finally gives us decent options

Did not say play Keane up front on his own. I said he has to be in the starting eleven. Keane scored both goals in the second half so i dont see how you can say he has not "got the legs". Ireland has come off with cramp recently and after this period out will be less fit. Nzogbia is not in contention. Bent plays on the centre halfs shoulder and Keane plays deep so that gives us a good balanced attack force. With Gardner, Petrov and Clark behind Bent, Keane and Albrighton/Gabby. There defence can be exploited ........

Correct. The draw starts at 3.40pm, 20 minutes before we kick off - pathetic. Don't know if this is the fault of ITV or the FA though.
In about 5/10 years, they will probably have done away with replays altogether, changed it to a mid-week tournament, quarters finals onwards played at Wembley, and the final got out the way played in August as a show piece opening the week before the Premier League starts.

Useless but vaguely interesting pointers for the game - Arsenal have lost only 1 of 33 home FA Cup matches under Wenger. We have taken more points at the Emirates than any other side.

No Collins or Albrighton, Ireland and Cuellar in. I presume injuries to blame as they're not on the bench.

I'm guessing Ireland and Gabby wide, with Keane and Bent up top. Potentially 4-3-3 with keane wide-ish but that would leave us very narrow.
