Title: Special message to the guy in the Trocadero on Sat night
Post by: Hookeysmith on January 09, 2012, 03:06:43 PM
Not sure if the other Villa fan (guy in his late 40's maybe early 50's) that was with his missus in the Troc watching the game on sat night is a member on here but if he is then fair play to him.
To cut a long story short
I was in town with my missus on sat and we decided to watch the game in the Troc - we got a seat at the bar and behind us was said villa fan and his wife. All around us was just normal sat evening drinkers so the guy in the pub put the game on for us (apparantly if any sniff of trouble and the game goes off) The  after a few minutes 5 typical noses came in and stood by us, all burberried up with some of the biggest golden bollocks i have ever seen, one of them was a woman decked out in full nose tracksuit and football shirt (classy). Once we scored all they did was take the piss and the other guy was getting agitated. My missus gave me the "You start and im off" lecture and i kept my cool. They really went out of their way to start something (mainly with this other guy) a few times he and one of the noses went eye ball to eye ball. I got in between them and calmed it down only for them to turn their attention to me.
Anyhow through much provocation the villa fan left with his missus after telling them all to fuck off.
Thankfully both the couple and after the game me and my missus got out of there without any further grief.

Firstly if you are reading this  - well done mate for taking no shit off them and holding your own
and secondly why are "the other side" such classless wankers that feel really brave having a pop at a couple of blokes having a drink with their missus and watching a game

Total knobs the lot of them

Oh and for the record only one of them (the tracksuited woman) had been part of the 14K actually at their game

I've never been physically threatened watching a game in the pub, thankfully. However, I have noticed certain Blose fans who turn up to a pub to watch when Villa are playing but don't bother when The Heathens are on the box. Bearing in mind I know these particular fans never actually attend the game they are sad beyond belief. To quote Trevor Francis "if Birmingham did the double over Villa and got relegated most of their fans would consider that a great season". Obsessed weirdos.

There were a couple of 'noses' in the British Oak on Saturday night stood by the screen. As soon as we scored they started singing '16 years, and won fuck all'. I reminded them that we had round our version of that song upto 100 years. He shut up then. I also asked his friend where they watched the game... He said in the Three Horseshoes. My question of 'I guess it was difficult to decide where to sit down there eh?' went down a treat ;D

What a sad bunch! Says alot about their fans when they cant even fill out their stadium for a local derby in the cup game.  I hope they continue to ply their trade in the championship with a stint in league 1.

The only real grief I've had with noses is after the 3-0 defeat under Taylor when I had to had to chin two of the little chav rats for spitting beer all over my bike (it had a Villa badge on the side fairing).

Otherwise its just been banter with those I know. Which has occasionally been... spirited, but never violent.

Having lived in bandit country this story sounds fairly typical.

I now live in the Black Country among plenty of Wolves and Albion fans, and while I'm sure they have their fair share of idiots I have yet to have a problem when watching Villa.

The 'Noses have a reputation for picking on people who aren't looking for trouble.

My flatmate says how it spreads around that 'The Villa are losing' in his block during their games.

Can't say I've ever heard the same down the Villa when it's a non-significant game for them.

I'm beginning to think that football fans are like a decent wine, they mature with age.
There's a nose who drinks in my local who I had a few run ins with (to put it mildly) in the 70's and early 80's. Nowadays we drink together and sometimes reminisce about the 'good old days', but mostly we seem to bemoan the stupid attitudes from both sides of the divide. That isn't to say  that my absolute dislike of SHA has changed, or his dislike of the Villa. It's just that we have both mellowed a little and as we have grown up we have realised that the cross city rivalry isn't the be all and end all.
There are younger followers of both clubs in our local who knowing our personal history find it incomprehensible that we can drink and have a laugh together, and there's nothing either of us can say that will change their minds.

When they got to Wembley, about 50 of them went in the Famous 3 kings in London, which shows live Premier League games on the Saturday afternoon before their game,  'looking' for Villa fans. We were at home to Blackburn.  They obviously knew there wouldnt be any of the villa mob in there and wanted to pick on people.

A mate of mine who usually sits next to me in the Upper Holte was in there.  Said they were horrible.

They are pathetic.

Exactly, I used to love the Troc.  Was distraught when they gutted the place and tried to go a bit more upmarket.  Went in there one day and BBC News 24 was on the TV for crying out loud, who wants to watch the news in a pub?

AS i said the older villa fan was there with his missus (and i was with mine) and he had had a few but was ok. When there were a few of them they kept goading this guy who stood his ground and told them to fuck off - much to the disgust and then fear of his missus.
Anyhow after the game i am outside having a fag. The one little mouthy scrote (mid 30's i would say, bald head, burberry and a bit rotund with the biggest gold chain and bollocks i have ever seen) came outside. Now i am 6,2" and not shy and when he was on his own and saw me you could see his face turn a different shade. It was all "its not you mate but the other geezer" etc etc. I told him he was out of order and to "go away"
My missus does not have a clue about football and over time i have tried to explain about noses and how you can spot them a mile off by their dress and their attitude and demeanour. She now fully understands and as we were walking through town later she actually made a game of trying to point them out

Its remarkable how easy it is to play this game - especially when they have the IQ of a plant and are usually dragging their knuckles behind them

And just for balance - i am sure we have enough pricks of our own and if the tables were turned i would have told the villa fans to piss off as well - guys with their missus watching a game is out of order, especially if they are not staring anything other than cheering their team. Banter i would actively encourage, its what the game is about - but this was nasty and only done to start a row.

I used to spend all my time in there but since they re-done it I hardly ever go in. I didn't even know they had the football on.

It used to be a villa pub I remember it gettin closed during a manure game because someone chinned an albion fan for cheering when manure scored. Suddenly the place was raided by riot police and I had to watch the rest of the game in the newt

The reason I ask is because going back to the 70's and 80's the Troc as I remember, (not that I know through personal experience) was so gay it don't bare thinking about, in fact it was the Troc and then onto the Grosvenor on the Hagley Rd, that's what a few Homo Thexual friends said to me.

But hey ho, I could be wrong.

You're right, my cousin worked in the Imperial Hotel over the road and the Troc was where they'd drink after work and I'd often meet them in there. The place seemed to be full of older gay men, prostitutes and then the chefs and waitresses from the hotel.

I still use the Troc a couple of times a week after work or when popping through town on the way to my bus stop.
I was in there after work on the Friday before New Year, watching the darts, and a mate asked if the noses were playing - I had no idea what he was on about.

Roughly 2 minutes later a bunch of meatheads stood behind me started singing Wipe That Snot at the tops of their voices. We decided it would be best if we moved on to another pub.

We had actually gone into the Windsor first, to give my brain a remider of days of old when it was Villa's main pub in town - my God how it had changed

Now just a place for piss heads of the world to unite - and no football!

Very helpful Aussie guy behind the bar though who told us the game would be on in the Troc

And yes back in the day is was a well know establishment for those that liked the odd musical and were good with fabrics

I've never seen any football-related trouble at the Troc either.

Quite like the Peroni there, and I've never been insulted by the staff, unlike at certain other pubs in the centre of Brum. So all-in-all I think its pretty decent.

Just been reading this thread, i now know why my uncle used to look at me a bit funny when i said i was off to the Troc. I was in there all the time when i was living in brum. I remember going in there for a quick pint before getting the train to Coventry. We were stood at the bar when a large group of noses came in and started mouthing off. One of my mates was a pretty big lad and stood his ground. The bounces on the door around 2000 were Villa fans and we used to have a good laugh together. Went in about 2 years ago with my wife and thought it was crap. Great pub pre snobs, oh they were the days.

Brought back memories of standing outside Boogies at 2.15 on a Sunday morning, resplendent in shiny Burtons suit, shirt and tie, wolfing down kebabs (most of which spilled down said suit).

I was amazed by his tiny cock and lack of personal hygiene.

The way I read it, the devil horns were cheltenhamlion's. It's an enduring image.

We had a new gaffer in the White Hart once who decide he was going to put an end to the recreational use of certain substances in the toilet. On his third day in the job there was a big fire in the car park.

Or in his car to be more precise.

EDIT: sorry, thought I was on the 'rough pubs' thread.

For sticky floors you would be hard pressed to beat the academy.

Sam Wellers had the stickiest floors of any pub I’ve ever been in. As soon as you walked through the door you where struggling to keep your shoes on!

The floor of the Hummingbird was so sticky that Solvite use to buy flooring from there for their adverts, complete with some poor bloke who was still stuck to it in his white suit. He shouldn't have drank so many £1 Redstripe cans.

The only times I ventured into B'ham town centre at night was to go to concerts at places like the Hummingbird.
Never drank in town in my youth.

What, no mentions for The Greyhound off Holloway Head?

I'll have a pint of Rough and Black please.
Mind you our early 70's Friday nights used to start in the Costermonger, then on to the Troc, Bierkeller on New St. (below Bogarts)
The Shakespeare and finally the Greyhound. By which time we didn't care what we were drinking. ;D

Eight years ago to the day in the Troc, a crazy lady threw a glass at me and then came at me with a stool.

Gillian McKeith?

Party pooper innit.

Most bizarre sight I saw in the Troc was in the late 90's when a bloke had a row, then chinned a woman selling roses.

What were you doing to miss out the old Yates's, The Windsor and The Temple Bar?
Finishing at the Greyhound would mean a rough Saturday.

In the early/mid 70's there was an old* bloke called Ernie, looked like Captain Birdseye, who used to go in the Greyhound, get out of his head, then, sitting on his own, abuse people on the buses down the Bristol Road.   *Terrifyingly, he probably wasn't much older than I am now

Those were the days when the only pubs on Broad Street were the Crown and the Westward Ho!

Happy days...I used to go in the Westward some lunchtimes when I worked at the old Motor Tax office in Oozells Street. You used to see the ATV crowd in The Crown, I remember seeing Simon Smith & Billy Wright in there on occasions

Oozells St Motor Tax Office. I went there a few times. Hidden away near Barbarellas. Bulls Head, Bishopsgate St and the Crusader were also in the area. Prince of Wales and Longboat. Rum Runner. Another venue that opened in the late afternoon, when everywhere else was shut, was that club on Holloway Head opposite the Greyhound. Can't think of its name. The Sentinels, the Colwyn. The list is endless.

That was it Dave. Is it still there?
Woodman in Cregoe St.
The Emily Arms was about as grim as you could get.
