By the time the Games start being played we will be in a relegation battle and will be playing the reserves in the cup.

its pointless who we get... if we get someone crap, we might scrape a defensive win and progress until we get someone decent and then the defensive team who cant defend will meakly crawl out of the cup in retreat...

The two Cup experiences I have yet to have the Villa serve up to me are for then to actually win the thing - or to suffer the embarrassing exit to an Altrincham/Kidderminster/Sutton/Woking/Chorley.

On the basis we're not going to win the thing, let's have a taste of the latter and give you your day in the sun!

Coventry away would be a good trip. They would parade the boys of '87 around for a 25th anniversary celebration before the game and then we could stuff them. And even the biggest crowd they are likely to have in the forseeable future won't be enough to help their financial mess.

Segregation wise, it'll be difficult to give us more than the standard Away area and all of the South Stand.

The only alternative would be for us to have all of the Uplands standing area

Have to disagree Greg. Going out to a bottom-half League 2 team would deepen the gloom even further. A decent cup run means winning games and that could spark a bit of confidence. I'm worried about going down anyway regardless of how we do in the Cup

Tend to agree. Think there are 3 pretty much nailed on ties - Mancs, Forest/Leicester, and Bloose/Dogheads - so they'll be looking for a tie involving a lower league team against a PL team with the potential for an upset. And that's us!

Ideally, Villa would win the FA Cup given the immediate exit of one Manchester team and also stave off relegation with at least one league game to play. Under the current regime, getting giant killed in Bristol, getting away with relegation as early as at home to MON's rednwhite army, getting rid of AM and clinging on to Bent would be a great outcome.

Crawley v Bristol City would be the tie to choose for a potential upset

Only 12k capacity? Clearly a case for switching grounds. If it's held at VP will get 10k from Bristol and 20 k Villa fans. So about 30 v 12 makes sense for Rovers to ask for switch.

I dont think you can switch for financial reasons any more.....they only switch games if the police tell them too

Reckon it will be on telly, given we're away and the lack of potential giantkillings for other ties. Been to the ground a few times. Get the garden shed song ready.

Anyone mentioned Arsenal v Leeds? Current TV bosses' dream. It's an early 70s throwback thang.

They met on TV in the third round last year

There was one year in the early nineties when they seemed to play each other on TV every bloody week.  I think they had a cup game that went to about three replays and played each other in the League Cup around the same time too.

Mixed emotions for DOL too, his heart will be torn on this one.

Rovers are pretty poor at the moment after going down.  We would be reaching new depths to go out.  Will get about 1,600 tickets judging by the number they gave Everton a few years back in the league cup. The pasties make you burp real bad - avoid.

Have to say i'd be quite happy to go out. If we went on a cup run i could see us doing a blose and going down.

Relegation or no relegation, if McLeish were to deliver the FA cup I'd not only put his picture up in the bedroom I'd buy a shirt and put Heskey's name on the back.

In that case someone should tell Bristol Police about the hooligan element..large hooligan element ..in our away  support and also the fact that with tickets in short  supply it is likely that 15000 ticketless Villa supporters will be heading for Bristol on the day of the match and will cause untold wanton damage in the city centre and terrify the local community around the ground....yes  they will.

My brother-in-law is a Gashead.  Sort of.  I think the last game he went to was when we last played them in the Cup back in BFR's day.

Despite myself, I actually think there's plenty of interesting ties.  If I could have a choice of only one to watch, I think I'd like to see the Fylde Coast derby - provided Fleetwood beat Yeovil in their replay.

I remember going to bristol rovers in the 3rd round about 1980 if i'm right, but it was eastville stadium?
Anyway there was loads of trouble after the game on a park next to the ground. Was quite dodgy with running battles back to the coaches. That was the 80s though.
They'll definitely fancy beating the villa at home, you can smell an upset.

From my brief but ultimately unsatisfactory flirtation with BT Vision, it was also possible to watch ESPN with them, so it's not just Sky Sports subscribers who watch ESPN.

As a semi-professional cynic, I'm guessing only Sky can tell you how many of their subcribers also have ESPN, and a lot depends on how Sky want to present the figures.

The eTicketing of the Rovers game is a mess at the moment. It currently says that you only need a Booking History to buy tickets. There's no way that that can be correct.

Its looks like they wanted to get the game set up on the system but then abandoned the plan part way through.

Personally think the Criteria is pretty poor for this game. Yes, Season Ticket Holders should obviously get priority, but I have mates who either can't afford an ST, or are at Uni, who wanted to go to this game. Couple of them have missed just 2 or 3 aways so far, yet they have to wait 11 days into selling of 1400 tickets?

You can't just give tickets out to people who have just been to a few away games. I'm a season ticket holder, Bolton will be my 5th away but i can't get my ticket until Monday. They've made it as fair as they can although i think the Bolton game should count as one of the aways.

I went to watch Rovers v Swindon yesterday.

If we lose to the Gas, it'll be the biggest upset in Villa history. They're a poor League 2 side, very small at the back and with a centre forward (Matt Harrold) who lacks any mobility.

Secondary striker Chris Zebroski looks OK but nothing special.

They do have two decent wingers in Joe Anyinsah and Mustapha Carayol.

Keeper Scott Bevan is big (6' 6") and has long kick that'll need to be watched out for.

I can't say that the central midfielders did anything that made them stand out for me.

The result was 1-1. The Swindon goal came from a midfielder running from his own half, through the midfield and defence before finishing with a scuffed shot. Very shabby defending.

The Gas did manage a late equaliser from a decent header.

Dosent look as though I'll be in the Villa end, cant see tickets lasting till i can get them on wednesday. 12000 capacity, 7700 at the Swindon match, take our 1400 and 1000? Swindon fans out of the equation leaves about 3500 vouchers that Rovers didnt get rid of. Im guessing that most season ticket holders would have been at the match. Roughly 2-3000 tickets should go on general sale on Dec 28th..Fingers crossed!! At least we will have a roof. :)

The dividing area between home and away fans on the Uplands Terrace is quite large. I suspect that they're planning to reduce the size of the unoccupied area

I predict it will either be a doncaster and we lose 3-0 or it will be a wycombe and we will win 8-3.
