Title: Stoke on Boxing day
Post by: andyaston on November 10, 2011, 08:36:15 PM
Away on boxing day 8pm are they taking the piss out of us.

Not only have we been the last game on Boxing day the most years now its been shoved further back. Will we ever kick off before 5.30 pm again on the 26th December or do they look to ruin our Christmas every year with hard fixtures and shite kick off times?

Won't be going or watching on the telly. I will be full of food and pissed as a fart however.

I can't believe anyone bar Villa/Stoke/Small Heath and Port Vale fans will be arsed to watch. We always have shit fixtures at Christmas... guaranteed to be playing the teams that are in Europe during the European break so they can concentrate on thrashing (or in Stoke's case, cheating) us out of sight.

Any good films on the other side so I can avoid "It's a Miserable Life" on Sky Sports?

It messes around the people who are going to the match, that's the problem. But they're only football supporters, so who cares about them?

Aside from Gold Cup Day at Cheltenham, it's the best day of the year. The happy release from the uber-Sunday that is Christmas day, shit loads of sport including football and the King George at Kempton, and the prospect of all day drinking and new jumper wearing.

We always seem to be on the TV on Boxing Day though and it escapes me why and this year really is taking the piss.

We don't always get 'shit teams' on a boxing day as some claim.

It was only what 2 or maybe 3 seasons back we had that fabulous last minute Kat Knight screamer (?!?) in front of the Holte end to equalise against the Arse.....

Happy days - I still believed back then!!

When we played them in August about 3 years ago it was cold. The following season, about March, it was absolutely freezing. The ground's on top of a big hill with big open corners for the wind to blow in.

For the last six years, save an early away match v Spurs about 5 years ago we've been the last match on Boxing day. Well, I say that, two years ago we were moved to the day after Boxing by TV. Sorry, if it sounds like a moan but when everbody else is wrapped up warm drinking the early evening away on Boxing day with friends and family, we are shivering away seating on a plastic seat on which has become an almost annual event of shoving our festive fixtures about.

Here is a list of festive home games since 2005.

2005/06 Everton 26th Dec, 5.30pm

2006/07 Chelsea 2nd Jan 7.45pm

2007/08 Arsenal 26th Dec 5.30pm

2008/09 Liverpool 29th Dec 7.45pm

2009/10 Spurs 26th Dec 5.30pm

All shown live no of which were played in daylight and most of those who attended probably struggled with transport. Call me paraniod but Sky wants to kill our Christmas.

The opposition also struggled.
And what about the rest of the teams in the Premiership?  I can't imagine them having a fixture-free festive fandango.

Are we saying let's have a moratorium on games from just before Xmas and just after New Year?

sounds reasonable to me.

Oh, but...then apparently there is a terrible dearth of games for Sky.  What a problem. So, the Premier League have to make clubs play at ridiculous times.

Grow some, PL!

(goodness me I never thought I'd be on here saying,'grow some'.
Gosh, how a website can change one.)

I bet the majority of the away end will be single blokes! If i was still going to games this season i'd have had to somehow convince the mrs and the family that i was going. I doubt we'll take any more than 500 with that ridiculous time on Boxing Day.

When you sign up to dance with the devil you can't complain about him doing the stonk.

Not that any of you personally signed up to dance with the devil (apart from the ones with Sky), so I guess that doesn't really work.

When you let the devil go out with your sister you can't complain about him pissing in your, er, sister? That's a bit much...

As fans of Aston Villa, we're not in a position to moan about Premier League behaviour when we'd all be even more indignant if we were away to Crewe at 3.00pm.

I hate the Britannia. Soulless plastic tacky staduim stuck in the middle of a shit industrial estate which has only one pub and 500 car showrooms. Horrible fans, nasty police and stewards, always seems to be freezing cold and blowing a gale no matter what the weather is doing. Shady bastards ripping you off to park in unused industrial units. Horrible negative football always offered by the home team and a nightmare to get away from.

Therefore I am chuffed to bollocks that I can veg on the sofa and watch the game in comfort.  Sorry and all that.
