Wouldn't it have been an idea to read them the riot act and get them in first thing on Wednesday?

Much as I am suspicious of most of McLeish's methods that I have heard of or seen, I don't necessarily think this is a bad idea. Trying to keep the players heads and confidence up would be a good thing, as opposed to literal punishment and shouting. There's more than one way to skin this particular cat.

Monty, I was going to reply to your post about 'exploding' on the other thread, then I read this one.
Case in point?
-
Let's hope it has the desired effect on sunday.
-
Does adding superfluous question and exclamation marks to the title make your post more valid than it would otherwise be?
-
If the players got a rollicking after the Bolton game, perhaps the two days off was to allow them to reflect, but I don't believe many of them will have. :-\

Damn Straight?!!!!??!!!
-
It's Great When You're Straight Yeah !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From what I understand, there was a frank exchange of views in the dressing room after Tuesdays match. So maybe it was thought that a couple of days off for everybody to think about what had been said was the right idea.
Let's hope it worked and something positive comes out of it.

Agreed.
Cooler heads will prevail. The last thing we need in our dressing room is a season of tension. Let the players clear their heads and focus on the job at hand. They know what it takes to win, the mission hasn't changed.
-
I think last season proved the players don't respond too well to the hardline approach.
-
If I have a bad day at work, if it so happens to be a Friday, two days off over the weekend usually does me more good than when it occurs midweek and I have to go in the next day.
-
I do not think it matters what goes on in the dressing room or whether they have days off or naughty step days sweeping up leaves in Aston Park. The players are not playing well enough and many of the players are not good enough. All the rest is peripheral arse covering by those facing criticism.
Let's see what Sunday brings. My expectation is that we will play well and win.
-
Well they must have been exhausted having played there socks of v Newcastle and then Bolton.
Need R&R time in preparation for QPR.
-
I always work better after a day off.
-
Peter Grant?
-
I think Student Grant could come in and take training and we would do as well.

Or better.

A bit early to turn on our own I think.
-
Look, I buy villa mugs, T-shirts and tat online so that entitles me to moan at any Villa manager who does not win 5-0 regularly.

I do hope that`s sarcasm

Indeed it does Mr Eck English.
Out of interest why do you call perpignan the arsehole of France. I stayed in Ceret a few years back and thought Rousillion was fantastic - more Cathar castles than you can shake a stick at.
-
2 days practising pass and move triangles seems essential.

You stayed in Céret, not Perpignan. The Pyrénées Orientales département where I live is fantastic. The City of Perpignan is (edited because I remembered that where I live, you can do time for referring to alleged incestuous practices between members of a particular community)
-
Fair enough .... plus a cracking rugby team of course.
-
Yes, USAP are great (but the lumbering halfwits that make up the population never shut the fuck up about them, the boring (edited because I remembered that where I live, you can do time for referring to alleged incestuous practices between members of a particular community)).

If any North Catalan lawyers are reading (as if, they're all too busy shagging snails to get any qualifications) it is the cheap Kronenbourg from the corner shop talking.

Keep imbibing the Kronenbourg if you've more cracking lines like that one.

P.S. The first year I taught in Perpignan, a good 15 years ago, the current mayor of Céret was a colleague (Maths, spit!). His son is currently a colleague (Maths too, spit!), and has been for the last 12 years.

Lovejoy this is all bollocks from Darren. It is a vibrant, beautiful, charming place and he loves it. You should see the place he "works" it is like a scene from the Four Musketeers meet Thomas Cook.
-
You must also bear in mind he originates from Castle Vale.
-
It's common practice to have time off in the week when they play on Sunday.
Mountains and molehills, again??!!!!
-

This.
Our passing and supporting play is truly sh*t.

Is it possible to "originate" from Castle Vale?
-
Not strictly FMWMU I suppose you originate from Castle Bromwich aerodrome.
-
It was slightly tongue-in-cheek, yes. I live in a beautiful region. Just need to correct Brian's memory blip: I was born in Heathfield Road Maternity, but grew up on Chelmsley Wood, had 2 years in Kingshurst (fucking nightmare) then it was Castle Bromwich until I left home at 18.
What was this thread about, away?

Spitfires. Nearly 12,000 of them.
-
Well the players need a day off to recover from the game and probably got another as they are playing on Sunday. I don't see any problem with it.
