The next 2 league games against QPR and Wigan will conclude our relatively easy start to the season and should give a more realistic outlook on where we stand with a tough season ahead of us. I dont think any of us realistically expect much return against any of the top 6 sides, so the return from the first 7 fixtures are as good as test as any for our new manager.
Obviously remaining unbeaten shows a solid start to the season but papers over a lot of the cracks...an improvement in defence and determination not to lose, is countered by a lack of ideas going forward and inability to create chances.
We are due a win, but also due a loss...so how many points do you think we'll get from our next 2 league games before what could easily be an embarrassing result up at Citeh?
-
2 points. We will draw both.
Then another draw with City after that.
-
I voted for draws.
-
4 points from the next two games will be a good return before we get our annual whipping at City.
-
QPR will be desperate for their first home win of the season so if we can avoid defeat down there then that should hopefully put us on track for a home win against Wigan. An optimistic 4pts for me.
-
Lose at QPR and win against Wigan - not to bad I suppose
nice and tight at the back - but by Christ does Bent need some help up front, without Gabby we would be doomed - doomed I tell ya
-
Bent looks crocked to me. Fonz in on Tuesday, and to start on Sunday. Get Bent fit before bringing him back.
-
I reckon we can get a point at QPR and then N'Zogbia will get his arse in gear and score the only goal against Wigan.
-
Any mods on to change my name back? Disillusioned....
-
Fuck it, i'm voting for 6 points to get us in the title challenge!
Although I expect 2 for the simple reason I don't remember us winning at QPR very often and we never beat Wigan at home unless Nii Lamptey is in the team.
-
We'll crack them both.
McL will have seen what was going wrong today and will alter the team accordingly.
Injured players will be back. Emile will be on form and so will Jenas. Benty will be feeling better. Gabby will still be immense. So will Shay and the defence.
I'm on the 3rd pina colada and feeling no pain.

Done as requested.
-
QPR (or ''Kwipir'' as we call them in this house)
0-0
Wigan
1-1
After much huffing and puffing finally...
Agbonlahor 73
and then...
Di Santo 80 (deflection of James Collins arse)
-
There is another thread about predictions like this , said on that we will lose to QPR, still stand by that.
See what happens with that and then look at Wigan...
-
Gabby will still be immense. So will Shay and the defence.
It's a new chant!
-
Thanks, Leeg!!
-
QPR and Wigan = 6 points for the Villa
Come On You Lions!

I admire your positivity.

I was hopeful of 8 points from these games, plus Newcastle and Everton.
We need 6 points then for this to be the case, although I'd now be happy with 4.
From memory the three games that follow Man City are winnable though,
-
Man City is winnable - we don't have Houllier surrendering before we step on the pitch!
-
i would be v happy with a point at QPR, its on TV they have hit some form and are a very decent team. anything other than a win against Wigan would be very worrying, I expect 3 points

Thanks Leeg, I'm trying to be more happy clappy having spent most of last season in a darkened room worrying about relegation... ;0)
-
Win and a Draw for me, plus I want a good performance against Bolton!
-
we will be unbeaten all season with 40 pts
-

Serious ambition there. 40pts eh? As many as that?

Eer yeh OK..wasn't thinking!
-
I reckon two draws.
-
I cant see us getting anything at QPR next weekend but we simply have to beat Wigan at home!!
-
1 point.
2-0 defeat at QPR, 0-0 vs Wigan.
-
Draw at QPR, and then a win against wigan. Giving us 11 from 7 to start the season. Not exactly sparkling, but over the season I think it will work out about 10 from each 7 games we play, roughly getting us to around 50-52 points.
Truth is that Young and Downing, 2 of the best creative players in the league, have left the club, and shock horror we are finding it difficult to break sides down. Bannan is a good player but needs to play central and as a deeper lying man than we think to be able to see the game in front of him. Jenas coming in will be a boost, and Bent needs a couple of weeks rest to sort his groin, he is clearly half fit and thus not getting into the positions he is used to getting in.
Petrov getting a knock is a blow. I would like to see Gardner start against Bolton alongside Jenas, with Bannan in front, Albrighton and Fonz wide off Gabby up top and give Bent a rest.
-
A boring 0 1 win against qpr and a 2 0 win v wigan. Personally I hope bent gets dropped, he either isn't fit or simply not in form, gabby is on one of his scoring runs
-
Two wins, with Wigan to get a good smacking as a final balance out of all the jammy luck they've had at B6 in recent years.

Wigan, If you ask me they owe us something, robbing barstewards....
-
QPR. 1-1 Draw, used to be a Villa bogey team,
Whoop Wigan 4-0. 8)
-
I don't see any reason why we have to fear going to QPR. A draw at least.
We will beat Wigan.
4 points minimum.
-

Probably the only time ever that Steve Bruce won't mind Darren getting plums-deep in his daughter (if reports are to be believed). That window of opportunity for Daz might cause him a dilemma.

@MatKendrick Mat Kendrick
#avfc injury list up to 9. Bent (groin), Petrov (ankle), Warnock, Lichaj (hip), Heskey, Herd (hammy), Cuellar, Clark (knee), Jenas (thigh)

oh bollocks.
-
Lose at QPR, win against Wigan
-
Agreed Phil.
-
Like most on here I've gone for 4 Pts from the next 2 games. I think we'll hold on for a draw at qpr and finally beat wigan. Qpr look a much better prospect than they did at the end of last season and based on our respective starts to this season, you can't really say that a draw is a bad result in my view. I'm hoping we click against wigan and the 3 pt prediction is based on hope more than anything else really.
-
I think QPR will turn us over, playing well since the new signings came in and I worry Barton will bully our central midfield a bit.
I reckon we'll finally turn over Wigan at VP though so 3 points from 2 games which would be a better return than the two draws Mcleish is probably planning for!
-

I never knew that you liked Pina Coladas.
-
qpr will be much more difficult than some imagine , swp looked on fire against wolves and i fear the fans who scoffed how shit he is when we were linked with him may see how wrong they were -a draw at best ,although i think we will lose there and scrappy win at home to wigan .
-
QPR beat convincingly virtually the same Wolves team away, whom we could barley muster a shot against at home.
-
1 point.
2-0 defeat at QPR, 0-0 vs Wigan.
Exactly what I was thinking.
-
Any one fancy changing their vote now after the dismal display last night?
IF we lose the next 2 games (make that 3 including Citeh) then we'll be down near the bottom by the time Baggies come to Villa Park. Obviously wait and see how we do against QPR and Wigan but genuinely struggling to see how we're going to pick up points if the performances dont improve drastically.
Alex McLeish 20/1 to be next PL manager to be sacked on Paddy Power.
-
Mcshit will not be sacked, we'll lose to QPR draw at Home to wigan
-
I think we'll lose at QPR - they've got too much verve and buzz about them at the moment - and draw against Wigan.
-
A watershed defeat at QPR followed by a win against Wigan.
-
Congrats to the 43.2% that got it right with 4pts.
If we can get 7pts out of the next 4 games then that will be a decent return.
