None of you really did expect Bannan to start did you?

It's a definite 0-0 this one. I was going to put money on a 0-0 earlier on today but didn't have my wallet when passing the bookies. Therefore, with my luck a 0-0 is written in stone.

Surprised to see neville only on the bench for them -3 points are there for the taking if we are brave today.
Hopefully this will be better than the turgid affair at fulham when we barely had a shot on target.

Disappointed not to see some rotation beyond Jenas who then pulled up with an injury. I thought we might have seen Baz, but I'm sure he'll play a part during the game. Surprised that Petrov starts given he played 2 games in the week, but then again, we don't have many players that play that role in the squad. Still confident we can win this one.

So, a new goalkeeping coach, a rumoured 'job switch' for McDonald and Sid, Jenas injured in training, Bannan left on the bench after tearing Lithuania a new one and Heskey playing as an attacking midfielder.

4-0 to Villa.

Well, we definitely have a new goalkeeping coach (according to Matt Kendrick it's the bloke who worked with Given at Newcastle and Man City). I think the job swap thing is probably not true.

I think with our squad being so short on depth we've suffered for the international week. Petrov and Dunne look a bit laboured after their midweek exertions and both are key players for us.

Looking at the team in midfield and defence we are really suffering for the lack of summer strengthening. We needed a new defensive mid and a lot of us would have looked for a few new defenders.

Especially, given we've already used a sub and it something were to happen it could have repercussions towards the end of the match. Albrighton on, tell him to hell with defending get the ball in our offensive third and shake them.

Don't think Jenas is the answer to a complete lack of creativity and attacking intent from both the manager and players.

We're in a hole, and we'll be in one until this manager goes. Which disasters aside, considering the large amounts recently laid out in payoffs and compensation/how much Lerner stuck his neck out to get him, won't be for a long time. I believe this to be the start of a miserable couple of years.

What is Darren Bent doing ffs, what is N'Zogbia doing and why the phuk is Agbonlahor so wide left waiting for long balls and spending 90% of the half getting back to defend, seriously if I was Gabby i'd phuk the manager of and just come inside and get in there with Bent.

I said Everton before the game, this game is soooo boring it has to be a draw, both teams are crap

The problem is not so much that they appointed McLeish but the fact that they failed to back him. I'm not so sure he would have made such a big play of giving players like Warnock a second chance had he actually been given the money to replace them. We've needed a defensive midfielder for years but we did not try to get one and instead went for the cheap option of borrowing a mediocre midfielder who is neither good defensively nor good in an attacking sense instead and even then this was done at the expense of getting rid of a player whom most of us would have kept.

If we're struggling in the bottom half come January the board have nobody to blame but themselves. They have made fuck up after fuck up for well over a year. If it continues beyond August 2012, there's only one place we're headed.

I hate when I make a twat of myself on the match thread by ranting away in a long post only to discover we've scored in the meantime!

One Randy Lerner, there's only one Randy Lerner..........

I really hope that gives Albrighton a confidence boost, because N'Zogbia doesn't deserve a starting place after his first three games, I'm afraid.

Thats a bit unfair, he has been a bit crap today and the fact he scored a goal in the 85th min does not excuse the poor display up to then.

Let's nick it 3-2. Where's Ashley Young when you need him?

Delph isn't gonna cut it is he?
He already has, and on merit.
But both he and Petrov have been badly exposed today by a poor initial set-up by McMinge and a very tenacious Everton midfield that has been swamped with players.
