I kid you not
It's not bad.
-
I'll buy it, whatever it sounds like.
-
Paulmcgrath5 Paul McGrath
This is a link to one of the tracks from my Album due for release 23rd September hope you enjoy .bit.ly/pJ0e08
-
There is an element of 'My Lovely Horse' by Father Ted but overall it's very good.
-
When a film is made of the man's life this will play before segueing into Dusty's version of the song and the closing credits will roll.
-
Well I've heard a lot worse I suppose.
-
It made me smile when I heard it, which is what certain records should do.
-
I'm trying to think of where I heard that song before. I like his version.
Just did a search - a Goffin/KIng song. Dusty Springfield as artist.
Dusty springfield - I think I'm going back
-
It's alright.
Does anyone have a link to his song that got to number one in the Irish charts? I think it was just called "Ooa Aah Paul McGrath". A bit of research tells me it was by a band called "Watch Your House" but I can only find their 1994 World Cup song online.
-
Is this version the original?
-
This is Dusty!!!
Goodness me, why would you want any other version?
Apart from God, of course.
-
It was'nt as terrible as i feared it was going to be.
-
In the charts, m'lord...
-
I've heard the Byrd's version before as well. Lovely song, lovely version. Who was first? God knows. And he's got his own!
-
In the charts, m'lord...
Number one m'lord....
-
This is Dusty!!!
Goodness me, why would you want any other version?
Apart from God, of course.
I'd forgotten how great Dusty Springfield's voice was. There's something about her voice that puts me in mind of Amy Winehouse.
Anyway, enjoyed this version, at the risk of sounding 'twee', it was nice.

Me too. It's beauty, vulnerability, originality and all-round greatness.
-
Not bad at all actually but as someone said earlier I'll buy it whatever it sounds like
-

This for me - profound post
-
A wonderful song, Nils Lofgren did a storming version on Whistle Test years ago and Freddie Mercury recorded a version under the name "Larry Lurex". It's hard to beat Dusty though, what a voice.
Anyway, Paul's version is just fine.
-
It's not bad.
Yes it is.
-
If you didn't know it was him singing you'd think it was okay. The fact that you know it's him makes it much better.
Skimming stones isn't his thing is it?
-
Not sure I could sit through the album though

Listening to this one, if I didn't know it was Freddie singing I would have thought it was Dusty or another female. Very high
-
It's not bad.
Yes it is.
The latter is the correct answer, sadly.
-
Not as bad as I thought it would be.
In fact, fuck it, it's the best song I've ever heard.

Blimey, who'd have thought it?
Anyone know why he's done it? Is he a frustrated crooner or something?
One of the better ex-footballer's attempts at music, but then again when the compeition is Diamond Lights by Hoddle & Waddle, you're 6-0 up at half time against 9 men!
-
God can do anything.
-
Its caused me to 'unfollow' the spoof General K on Twitter. He tweeted last night that 1000 copies had been delivered to the club and they could be used as ash trays.
Now i'm always up for a laugh and have enjoyed the spoof tweets, but that's disrespectful of a legend trying to do positive things with his life.
Unfollowed.
-
I've heard worse from so called professional singers.
I'll buy it.
Instead of skimming pebbles across the water, he should have walked on it. 8)
-
love the man but if my toes curl any further i'll snap them
-
Carole King recorded it and wrote it with Jerry Goffin.
Dusty's version was superb.
Nils Lofgren did a good version on his 1975 self-titled and wonderful album.
Many have tried to sing the song but failed.
Seriously wrong, M'Lord.........
-
Yes, he shouldn't have done it but it is better than what Hoddle and Waddle, Kevin Keegan and Gazza did. Can't remember any other fotballers who released a single. It would have been better received without the video I think.
-
I hear that he's singing Unchained Melody with Shaun Teale on the album.
-
Better than Bono.
-
If this is a new hobby of his then great, it beats the old one.
-
I will buy it God can do no wrong in my eye's number one for christmas.
-
He was a fantastic player, but that song is execrable.
Soz, God.
-
Apparently its for charity.
-
I will buy it God can do no wrong in my eye's number one for christmas.
Now wouldn't that piss Simon Cowell off?
Maybe nearer the time I'll start a Facebook campaign similar to the one that was done, was it year before last?
Considering the low sales you need nowadays to get to number one. Between Villa, Man Ure and Republic fans we could get it to number one for Christmas.
-
Good for him, it ain't too bad!
-
Number one m'lord....
He already is!
-
Have you all taken leave of your senses? It's fucking terrible.
Still the best player i've ever seen in a Villa shirt though.
-

"the Emperor has no clothes on..." There's always a wanker little kid out there that points out the obvious.
Yes, he is the best player to have worn a Villa shirt in my time on this earth, and his greatness extends to much more than just that.
-
To be honest, if it keeps him out of trouble then it doesn't matter how bad it is as far as I'm concerned.
It's not brilliant but it's also not as bad as I was expecting.
-
He's not very good at skimming stones is he, I reckon I could get at least 6 bounces more than him.
-
Erm, what can I say? ............ It's, erm, Paul McGrath, so it obviously can't be anything less than utterly marvellous, can it?
-
I'm buying it.

Err...pardon?
-
If we only had him today......
-
It's not bad.
Yes it is.
Can't believe it took a page and a half. It's shit.
-
Should This be in off topic?
-
Now. Let's be brutally honest here. Musically, it's not bad, but great it certainly ain't. It's in the Robson & Jerome envelope - he sings it in tune, and quite nicely, but it's not exactly pushing any musical boundaries. It's not Animal Collective or Battles. It's X-Factor bland. But what is absolutely fecking brilliant about it is that Mr McGrath is looking quite bloody well in that video. He's sung a song for charity, he's let someone film him singing it on a beach and he looks as relaxed as if he was marking Alan Shearer out of a game. Piece of piss. That's worth celebrating. If you've read his book (if you haven't you should, but it's not a comfortable read) you can't help but wonder what he's up to and where his head is at. He could be doing a medley of Right Said Fred songs in a dress for what it's worth, point is he would appear to be alive and well and in an alright place. That, I think, is brilliant.
-
Well said mate, that sums it up nicely

joke Chris old chap. Sorry if it didn't come over that way. I was agreeing with you and was just saying that you were the first to point out it was a miserable song after so many had kind of said it was good. Which it isn't.

Nicely put.

The lyrics are fine, there's no problem there.

Sorry, I was (still am!)tired and even grumpier. It is rubbish though isn't it!

Yes, that.
Sadly, a point of issue has to be raised on the stone skimming, however. Paul is clearly seen standing on a sandy beach, yet on two occasions attempts to skim pebbles across the water - almost impossible to achieve on an imcoming tide, incidentally, which would probably account for the camera maintaining a respectful distance at those points. Where does he get them from?
Disappointing that a man who has so bravely confronted his demons should compromise on truth to accomodate artistic license in this way.

Not read the whole thread so apologies if it's been mentioned already, but surely it's worth an effort at getting it to number 1 through facebook, I mean with it being for charity an all....
