Mildly surprised to note he has moved to Watford. He looked a reasonable squad player to me
-
I was a little surprised too, I don't ever think he'll be a star but he was decent in the challenge and could get about the pitch.
When you're looking to close a game out he'd be a decent third man in midfield putting pressure on the ball.
-
Was never likely to be anywhere near the first team, especially with the arrival of Jenas. Not surprised at all.
-
A decent championship player, good journeyman pro but not a lot more IMO
-
I was surprised he left but he wanted first team football.
-
I was a little surprised he was shipped off. I didn't really expect any of our immediate youth to leave, let alone a center midfielder. I thought he was a strong player and couldn't complain about his work rate. Though, he would rarely ever see first team football at Villa, he was a good asset to have that didn't seem to get jittery in games.
I hope he does really well and can find his way back into the Prem.

It doesn't appear that Hogg was "shipped off". From his quotes on da Beeb, it seems that is was his choice to leave
"I'm at the stage of my career now where I need to be playing games,"

Agreed, never going to cut it week in week out in the upper echelons of the premier league.
-
At 22, he either had to be getting games or moving on.Decent player who will IMO go onto have a respectable career.
-
The day GH, through no other choice due to injury, paired him and Bannan against the red filth my heart went in my mouth
for 60 minutes they ran United ragged, even the cnut Fergie stated that we should have won by 6 - whether they could have continued like that we will never know
-

Agree
These kids are now 21/22 so if they don't look up to it ship 'em out
-
Looked a decent player, especially against Man Yoo last season. Remains to be seen if he is longer term PL standard I suppose.
-
Not a high enough standard, he went on loan and he didnt look that good, your going to get payers that move on its part of the game
-
I dont think this one will come back to bite us like Gary Cahill ...
-
Neither do I.
Decent at the start but he was massively out of his depth in the Spurs game on boxing day, should've been sent off before half time.
-
At the age of 22 you should know if he is capable of regular 1st team football at this level. If not it does neither the player or the club any good to dither. If he is a squad player only he'll be filling a place that a younger player could be occupying...

Unfortunate taht we let the hogg out who who !! Not such a player for epl.
i think he will do well for watford.
A player to avoid backing on scoring goals i think hes a player who will get more yellow cards than goals. To me his game is suited to mls think he would be top pro out there.
-
Not quite good enough, thanks for the effort.

but he came back to become Villa reserve team's leading goalscorer as they won the 2008–09 Premier Reserve League Southern section.[4]
-
A decent player and good on him for wanting to move and play football and kickstart his career. Surprised we didn't get nay kind of fee for him though.
I reckon he will have a good lower league career, along the lines of Whittingham/Murray, but I seriously doubt him leaving will ever come back to haunt us.
-
I think he made right decision for long term. If he stay he might play 50 games for whole career and other oprion is he could play 350 games for other club or three.

£300,000 I remember reading somewhere.

For some reason I thought i'd read it was a free. But using the wonders of Google I just found this from a local Watford paper.
"Hogg, who signed a three-year contract in a deal which we understand will cost Watford an initial £300,000."

I appreciate he did well in '08-09 res team football but thats way different level and it was also a few years ago - he hasn't really develloped in to a midfield dynamo imho
goood luck to him though
-
Right decision to get rid. Always looked overweight to me and was regularly given the runaround by those Duke boys
-
Are you sure he didn't Boss the midfield?

I see what you did there! Making those sort of jokes can be a bit Hazardous though!
-
Is there a possibility we can incorporate Daisy Duke's tits and arse into this conversation?
-
I believe you just did, without an ounce of subtlety.

Excellent.So Daisy's arse? Magnificent i'd say.

There was a girl wearing Daisy Duke shorts in the Lower Holte for the Hereford game. I remember when I saw her I thought who the hell wears shorts like that to Villa-Hereford on a Tuesday night. Looked like she had nice legs though!

Wish I had gone now!
Thanks for the comments on Hogg, I think on balance he probably has done the right thing for his career
-
having watched his progression for a few years, i am not surprised in the slightest...
i expect herd and lichaj to follow him in the next couple of years too...
