I was in the shop today with the intention of buying a retro shirt. Decided not to when I was told they are releasing a 1992 replica with McGrath 5 on the back. It'll be the one with the laces.
-
The Villa shop?
I'll have to get that when they release it.
-
And me that was my favourite shirt as a kid

Same as....be nice to see this...hope its exactly the same as it was..with the umbro logo on aswell...
-
Wasnt a fan of the laces to be honest,i think my favourite kit was probably the 82 home kit with blue sides.
-
I still have the original one and it still fits. I obviously haven't piled on too many pounds since I was 17.
-
I still have my original, all my old shirts going back to the late 80s still fit me. Might be time for the Brazil shirt from the BFR years to get an airing tomorrow.
-
Oooh can't wait to see how that looks.

Try getting God no 5 on that and not looking like a knob.
-
Wasn't the 1992 shirt a nod in the direction of the 1890's style of shirt? So if this one comes out it will be a replica of a replica.
Now can I have my prize as pedant of the year? ::)
-
Won't have a sponsor or Umbro on it, will it?
-
I was just thinking what the laughing policeman said. And I find it a bit sad that, having clearly exhausted replicating the shirts worn during the various successes between '57-'82 we are left to ''celebrate'' being runners-up from twenty odd years ago.
Diadora put out a lovely range of retro gear when they were our kit-makers. Names and numbers of Mortimer, Cowans, Shaw, McGrath and Platt old-style shirts, all claret, white or blue. They looked the business.

I bought a replica of that a couple of months ago, as i'm only 24 wasn't alive when it was launched, but much prefer the old replicas to the new ones that seem like tat the season after.
-
fantastic news. i hope it DOES have the sponsor cos it wont look right otherwise and lets face it, Mita Copiers were the daddy of all Aston Villa sponsors...........
-
Yes not a fan of that laces shirt, the Club have misjudged this one, there are much better shirts to replicate.
Not that I'd ever buy a replice, just buy the real thing
-
I would get one with McGrath on the back I would need a bigger one than the one I had because I've put weight on since I had the last one.
-
Numbers 9 or 8 would have been great too - Deano and Garry Parker
-
The only shirts I have are my two faves, original from 96 season and retro from the mid 70's as the original I had (which I don't have anymore) wouldn't fit me, but in fairness I was 8/9 at the time.
How times change, in order to get a number put on the back I 'borrowed' one of my mum's bed sheets and cut a number 7 (Ray Graydon) out and a got a mate's older sister to sow it on the back of the shirt - just wished I had threw out the sheet afterwards as my mum went mad!!
But like the sound of this new retro shirt, might have to get it for the kids tho!
-
I liked the one from about 91 with mita copiers that's my favorite

In addition, the 1992 shirt was before squad numbers and, therefore, wouldn't have had the player's name on it.
-
Would love one. Will definately buy
-
First time I've been genuinely happy about a shirt release in a couple of decades or so. Can't wait to see it.
-

You disgust me.
-
The laces effort was my least favourite shirt, it's the only one i have'nt bought i think.

Think they were done by hummel as opposed to diadora. I got the white long-sleeved McGrath one. Quality shirt, but it shrank on the first wash and I got a bit fat, so only really wore it out once!

One day I'll get the hang of doing quotes from the I phone...

Sorry, you're right, Hummel. What size? If you still have it I'd be interested in buying it.

Sorry.Slightly bigger beer gut but I suppose I can't complain about that. I have put the hours in.
-
My favourite kit was the first one I bought in 97-98 until some bastard stole it in darwin back in 02. I'm still livid.

Tragically I still have the original 92/93 kit (c/w sew on premier league badges). I was only 11 when this kit came out but is still fits now. I'm hardly slim now but it shows how chunky i was as a kid !!

yeah but he's only 17 and a half

IIRC, other teams in the Prem had laces that season too. I think Man U and Ipswich had them perhaps.
Not my favourite old Villa top I must say, though the team that played in it were bloody class. 8)
