I think he will play Heskey wide left and Gabby just behind Bent.

Im also assuming that this is what we will start the season with apart from Collins/Clark.

AVTV thing getting on my nerves. I can listen to commetary but there is no link to "Watch live".  I can see all the other AVTV stuff. Anyone have problems with AVTV in Firefox?

edit: scrub round that - screen refresh gives me the link :o)

Same here - it's listed as an 'upcoming event' so I'm hoping it will go live nearer kick off. Anyone not on Firefox got a live feed on AVTV yet?

EDit - ignore - see Breezebent's edit above - now OK

Heskey is not a bloody winger, so why does he keep operating him there. McLeish is seriously reminding me of MON when playing players out of position.

Anybody know why there are about 30 washing lines strung across above the pitch ? You need a bloody big ladder to get up there to hang the shirts out to dry.

That's one fucked up formation, or too many players are out if position.
I hope McLeish is not pandering to the fans with that team by playing too many attacking players. We'll get destroyed.

Listening to Woodward is like scouring your scrotum with a brillo pad soaked in nitric acid.

And the expert speaks......each to their own but please keep your kinks to a more suitable thread. There may be folk of a sensitive disposition reading. I mean a brillo pad is extreme. Aldi's 8p pan scourer works just as well. There's a credit crunch on you know.

I really can't see the point of Heskey.
He has contributed absolutely nothing.

I can't, either. He's rubbish and has been pretty much since day one. The sooner he's off our wage bill, the better.

I also think Heskey's done pretty well whilst being played completely out of position, but that won't stop people calling him a useless waste of space etc.

I still want to sell him mind.

The goal's settled us down, keeping possession well. Defence looking fairly unruffled, Clark's mistake for their goal apart. As others have said, Makoun has been excellent, but as neat and tidy as he is Petrov aint the def-mid we need, lacks the required energy. The Zog looks real class, but this front three is worrying.

some nice movement at the end there. Overall happy with the CB's, goalkeeper and Makoun. No worries with Bent and Zog. Concerns with Gabby as he works hard but looks lacking in confidence going forward and the full backs as they were stretched quite often.

Like to have seen Bent have a chance to get on the end of a few of those Allbrighton crosses but we looked OK. Any worries that an Eck Villa was going to be dull and direct have been dispelled at least. N'Zogbia eased in and took his goal well and looks like Ireland has pulled his socks up.

My AVTV picture has been absolutely perfect all the way....its just the twat on commentary.

Have you got a high Meg broadband? Ive only got 2Meg, so i'm assuming this hasn't helped me.

Was going to say my feed was 101% all the way through, but I do have 30mb broadband.

Brilliant feed from AVTV today. Sorry some of you lot have had issues. My sound experience is fucked because Woodknob is commentating.

As long as there were no injuries that's all that matters.

Hopefully we'll be ready for next week.

It will be nice if we can get a couple more players in before the end of the window.

Just watched the last 10 minutes... at times Braga were holding onto the ball easily, but we still pressed, once we got possesion of the ball we passed it around nicely, at times we probably just need to show a bit more intent going forward. Ireland got himself into some good positions and he looked comfortable on the ball. Makoun's V02 Max must be off the charts... didn't get to see N'Swag's goal, any good?

A good enough showing that, for a friendly. That defence is starting to have a look of its old self about it, which is promising. N'Zogbia did quite well and looked lively, while Makoun was, once again, a cut above the rest.

Now at the end there (and I know it was in the 90th minute of a friendly and all that), there was a little glimpse of Ireland's ability. He was darting about, calling for the ball, then moving it around very quickly, positively and accurately. That all took place in the space of about two minutes, to be fair, but a tantalising glimpse anyway.

Didn't see it either but eastie said it was a low shot in close range.

Overall, looking good. I suspect AM has the touch of MON in him, which is probably why the defence is behaving themselves now.

cross from the right that Bent knocked down to Zog on the right of the 6yd box. Zog first time left foot into the bottom right corner. Not a rocket but efficient enough.

1-1 Percy. They were the better team, and had more possession, but we didn't do badly. The defence had a lot of set piece practice and look a hundred times better defending them than last season.

Absolutely. An extremely dull game on our part, very few ideas, no width, constant back passes, a return to hoofing and no pace, only livened up by the introduction of Bannan and Ireland who seem to be on the same wave length. Why Heskey, I have no idea. Time to say goodbye to Petrov and Heskey.

Unless something changes it's going to be a very long, dull season.

The lack of creativity was a bit frightening! We looked a bit clueless at times, but there were a few sparks of something when Bannan and Ireland came on and Marc's crossing was good. A draw against a pretty enterprising side was a decent workout, but AM has much to do before Fulham methinks!

I would like to see villa use a midfield with Makoun, Ireland, Bannan, Zoggy, and a defensive midfielder (Gardner) with Bent upfront.

Game is not too bad but not too exciting but that preseason friendly. Oh Portugal TV say 7. Ashley Young instead of Stephen Ireland. LOL

Little Barry has made an impression every time he's played this pre-season, he could be a hell of a player with two really good centre mid's behind him. Glad to hear Makoun had a good game as well. If he properly settles into his role, he could very very good for us.

1-1 Zog got the equaliser

We were decent, good passing play, but the usual last-ditch defending and route one bollocks is still there.

Best: Makoun - a real gem in the middle. Worst: didn't hear Heskey doing too much - he was out on the wing.

Glad that Jean the second had a good game. I think he could be class, keeping things ticking over and using the ball intelligently,he needs someone with legs besides him though, doesn't look like we have that for now.

Shame Nrc went,as I think Delph is too naive at the minute.

Cheers, when I looked at the team it was quite attacking with Zog, Gabby, Heskey and Bent. You would expect come Fulham for an extra midfielder to come in and Zog to replace either Heskey or gabby out wide if thats how they were set up today.

Glad Makoun had a good game as when he gets to grips with the pace of play in England he will be better, he just does the simple thigs well, retains possession and is always available to receive the ball. I hope he gets a run of games in the side. From what I can make out from reading a few comments this game again highlighted the fact that we need legs and presence in the midfield.

I know it might go against some opinion but I thought although we defended alright as a unit, we lacked the advantage Collins gives us in terms of height at centre back.  Collins does have his moments, but there aren't too many CB's that are consistent first team regulars that are quite so young as Clark, because generally you do need the experience.  I'd have to say I think in terms of set pieces, Collins is far more of an aerial weapon to have, and with Warnock at fullback your always going to give away free kicks in dangerous places.  Collins does tend to get on the end of quite a few, whereas I think Clark was caught out by that a bit today, and Braga are certainly no Bolton/Stoke.

Welbeck i'm assuming?  Although i'm pretty happy he's not in the squad so won't risk injury (as long as he isn't already), that is quite funny.

Warnock's frustrating to watch, great most of the time, until he either gets caught out or fancies giving his opponents some luck in free kicks. AM should put the shits up him if decides to throw a barney.

Clark for me looked assured, he does need to cut out some of his errors though, it could cost us a goal if he doesn't concentrate fully.

Warnock should be told that is a grand fine for every free kick he gives away diving in around our box. It is why GED dropped him last season, we conceded too many from his stupid set piece handouts. Here you did not score last time, but have another. I want to wring his neck for it. Never been so frustrated watching a full back 'defend' as Warnock and his insane diving in moments. Stay on your fucking feet and close the man down. How hard is it? He is a professional footballer, who has played full back for England FFS!!! How can he not know that diving in and giving free kicks away is a needless way of inviting pressure???

I was very impressed with Charles N'Zogbia tonight. I must admit I was fed up of Young's antics last season: diving, over hitting crosses - I think the Zog will be more effective, he's got great poise on the ball and always looks dangerous to opposing defences.

The combination of Zog, Ireland and Bannan with Bent leading the line could potentially be brilliant with quick incisive passing, but we still urgently need some grit in the midfield to add balance to the team.

Defence picks itself , and id rather go with makoun and delph than start with petrov who tires too quickly, banna , nzog and ireland can create and bent can finish -heskey and gabby playing wide do not work in my opinion.

The spell towards the end when ireland came on we played some lovely football.
I d like another defensive midfielder on board but if its delph or petrov then id rather see delph get a run, than see petrov huffing and puffing after 50 mins.

What's the point of having strength in the team, if when we use all that strength to win the ball but cannot keep hold of it. Unless we sign a Scotty Parker we have to make do with what we have.

IMO the team above would be our most effective.

From the cooments AM has made during the last couple of weeks, I think you can be assured that Petrov and Heskey will start against Fulham next week.  How long they remain in the team will depend on how they do or, more importantly, how well others do when they come on as subs/perform on the training pitch/play in behind closed doors friendlies.

I'followed' the game on Twiitter last night; it seemed that we were a bit 'same old, same old' with far too many speculative balls and lack of gelling together.

I am a VERY positive person, but ( and I dearly hope I'm proved wrong), from what I see this season is going to be a painful one.

Good to see N'Zog scoring mind.
