I'd settle for him finding us a Wim Suurbier. Best attacking full back ever.

McLeish was trying to add him to his scouting group at Blues, and their board I am sure tried to intimate they wanted him to replace Montgomerie. Most positive that we have actually got scouts now. At least 2!!!

Crappy translation. It should of course say 'football matches' but the literal translation is 'races'
There's lots of potential talent out here. Kids learn technique from a very young age and its not just confined to the likes of Ajax and PSV. Even the lower league clubs focus heavily on the   Dutch method of learning football and it shows.

A friend of mine was a district youth coach in Oxfordshire, as a result he had a sort of informal contract with Villa whereby he'd recommend players. A perk of this job was that he attended meetings at Villa.

He was amazed that he - and people like him - were pretty much the extent of villa's scouting network. At the time we were being linked with Falcoa and my Mate said there was zero chance it would happen as MON did not have contacts in that continent.

On the positive side, if we can get better raw materials through our successful academy then the future, way in the future, could be really bright.

Based on what I'm told anything new/additional is an improvement.

Two recent tweets from Joey Barton who is in holland on tour:

1. The infrastructure in youth football here is something to behold, its no wonder that they consistently outperform their population

2. FC Utrecht and we wonder why the dutch are technically superior

I have friends in Holland and I have been visiting them for over 30 years now - a couple of year back I asked if VCTM jnr could train with some of the lads of his age (at the local football club).
1. I was pleasantly surprised at the technical abilities of the young lads and girls.
2. I think they were mortified at the physical presence of VCTM jnr and the vocal support from his father - "get stuck in son !" - not sure of the dutch translation).
Good luck Artur - at least if we sign a lad from "Nederland", we will not have any problems with the language - most speak better English than us !!

He's correct of course. The infrastructure for football is incredible here. I live in a small village and we've got facilities here that most British towns would be envious of. When I go home and see the state of the amateur game and facilities in the UK, it just makes me sad.

I agree NeilH - my friends live in the east of Holland - Winterswijk. The facilities are superb and more importantly used extensively by the people who live there.

By the way, Holland is the place to be every new year - VCTM jnr is setting off fireworks for about 12 hours !!

We recently met a great Dutch family from Eindhoven - so our yearly visits mean travelling to and from both Winterswijk and Eindhoven.

Can I ask what you do in Haarlem? - Isn`t that near to Schipol?

cheers VCTM

The new year fireworks are something to behold, especially in the south the country. For a health and safety conscious nation they seem to lose their senses when it comes to New Year fireworks. I think 364 days of following the rules gets chucked out of the window for 1 crazy day.

Yep Haarlem is not far from Schiphol, near enough to Amsterdam for work (where I commute to ) and far enough away to avoid drunken Brits on stag do’s. It a nice place to live and I love it here.

Getting back to the facilities debate, you just have to watch an under 10’s game over here being played to see that we as a nation are failing monumentally to get the basics right. Sure they play matches here, but so much of the early training for kids is about learning the key football techniques so that when they play football (which incidentally is always on smaller pitches for kids) they are not just hoofing balls around. I’ve driven past my local football pitches in middle of winter and the floodlights will be on and kids will be training, with pleasure. In fact many amateur teams here are over-subscribed due to the demand from kids to play..... Its hardly a surprise then that the national team continually punches way about its weight and continues to produce players of the ilk that we’d kill for.

No offence to Wild Willy (could probably still have done a job for us at left-back last season) but he and Carlos must be the among the least-cultured players from their respective countries playing at the highest level
.
