Title: is this true?
Post by: madirishvillain on June 18, 2011, 12:21:08 AM

It was also claimed Villa’s ticket office ran out of money on Thursday after fans demanded their season tickets be refunded.

i know its from a paper, and i know how on here in the last 10 days that we are not to believe anything that is written in the papers ::)

but if true, thats not a good start

genuinley what is our normal figures for season tickets and will we get close to it this year?

I'm not sure to be honest, maybe that paper is exaggeration slightly.

I'd genuinely be ineterested at how many people haven't renewed their season tickets.

Of course it isn't likely. For a start, how many people pay cash for season tickets?

Mat Kendrick in the Birmingham Mail today reported that not one single season ticket holder had so far returned their ticket or asked for a refund. Bloody papers eh? Sometimes you wonder if they just make it up!

on BBC news they said at one point one person brought back 9 season tickets and it was happening all day. I don't believe that many people have but Kendrick is  wrong (as usual)

very good point dave

its all done in installments by direct debits nowadays, being from northern ireland i dont have much experience for season tickets, just for my local club Cliftonville were you do pay cash up front

what are the usual season ticket sales Dave and do you think we will get close to them this year?

Ridiculous.  For all harry potter fans. Season ticket refunds are in the big wardrobe with huge spiders and stuff.  None taken so far, none likely unless you have a major wand.

Haven't had a season ticket for some time now, but my first ever was the season we were relegated to the Third Division.

What a wonderful time that was to buy one, not just for the exciting times we had in the following few seasons, but also because so many people had not renewed that we had the pick of the seats.

If you're wavering, my advice is to go and get yourself one of the best seats. You'll not regret it when we're in the CL.

That was the same for me. My Dad bought 2 season tickets for Docherty's first full season which ended in relegation. 6 guineas each they were.

We could appoint Doctor Harold Shipman as manager and I still wouldn't take my season ticket back.

Us elderly fans have had some shite by the way. Lots have seen us go from Division one of the old league to Division three, which is when I became involved. Maybe they have seen worse things go on at the club, cos I know I have. Thing is, never once would I have thought about betraying my club, when I could have after hearing that Ron Saunders had resigned after a 6-0 win at Meadow Lane v Notts County. Went there 10 days later and lost 1-0, but still supported my club

Maybe it's just because I am from across the pond and things may be done differently here, but when you return a sale here the only way you get cash is if you paid cash...do that many people pay that much money in cash as opposed to debit/credit cards?

Nope, it's the same here, hence the story is bullsh*t.

And if you've paid with Mastercard, it can't be refunded to American Express or even a different Mastercard or certainly shouldn't be. Mainly because (as I understand it) your transaction is actually with the credit-card company and not the third party (in this case Aston Villa).

Mate at work phoned up to see if he could take his ST back. Presumably he paid cash for some reason, they told him to phone in advance to make sure they had enough money in store.

Slightyl off topic but it was funny.
I was in the Co-Op the other day in a massive queue only because I wanted cash back because all the cash points where I live were out of order. Anyway I only had some strawberries. The old chap behind me said to me "why are you in such a big queue for just them strawberries", so I explained. Anyway as I was leaving the queue (which maneuvering 3 kids takes time) when I heard the check out girl say to the chap "You can not have cash back when you are paying with cash!"
Bless his cotton socks!

Would think they'd stop selling full season tickets just before first game. If you're strapped for cash til September you could do one of the instalment options - 4 monthly payments interest free, Villa credit card 9 months interest free, or 10 monthly instalments but you get hammered for interest on that one (an extra £50-60)

Both the instalment options expire on 30th June - I think they were extended probably due to slow sales

Bloke at the cricket last night said that he had sent his 2 season tickets back and had been refunded. Had to keep correcting himself every now and again as in 'when we go to Fulham blah blah, oh, off course, we won't be there'.

It was, at that point, that I saw a tear come in his eye.

See you at Fulham mate!

A mate of mine that comes with us to the European aways, which I think you may also know (Dave, or suicide Dave as we affectionately call him) handed in his season ticket after the Wolves game and returned all his away tickets too.

People can obviously do what they want, but I cannot believe that people are returning tickets or even contemplating it, especially those who were supporting the Villa in 68’ or went through the garbage under Turner and McNeill.

Renewed our season tickets by telephone today. According to the recorded message, due to popular demand the deadline for the instalment option has been extended to 30 June. Standard marketing ploy.

Indeed. The 'popular demand' means absolutely nothing these days since I read that Skunk Anansie had reformed due to supposed popular demand, if i'd have got wind of that i'd have got a campaign going to ensure they didn't by 'even more popular demand'.

yip i asked that 2 pages ago

everybody keeps avoiding it

i think we all know they will be drastically down this year, if a website like this (only a small % of all villa fans to be fair ) has eck no 86%   yes 14%

then we all know the answer

Anyone who says they have "sent their season ticket back" is clearly talking nonsense, as they haven't even been sent out yet.

This season ticket martyrdom is a bit tiresome. People either threatening to do not renew, or telling us they've renewed like it is a badge of honour we're supposed to thank them for.

And why is it when they do so, they always seem to deal in multiples? "I've cancelled my 12 season tickets" etc etc.

Whatever you want to do, set fire to them and perform a shamanic dance around them, or renew them and offer to pay double for them, for god's sake just do it and don't parade it on here like some fucking achievement we're either supposed to be impressed at or slit our wrists at.

Just make your own decision and lump it.

Sorry. I done a big rant.

yea but do you think they will be down or not on previous years?

its also like the big mad villa fans on here, that have renewed because they bleed claret and blue and are buying extra season tickets to show how much they love the villa and no matter who randy appoints they are better villa fans than anybody else because they will be still be buying 20 season tickets  etc etc

i am genuinley interested in what figures come out

then we will see what Villa fans actually think of the appointment of mcleish

the proof of the pudding is in the eating as they say

I don't think it's the threat of people returning season tickets that we have to worry about, as that's probably just a bit of an emotional reaction to the appointment.  However, I imagine for anybody in two minds whether to buy one or not, this might have a bearing on the decision.  I expect that season ticket sales and overall crowds will be down a fair bit on last season.  And last season wasn't exactly great.
