who were gurning about GH last year
a simple question
would you take him back now?
yes or no
-
No. Jesus Christ, in 5 months his heart would give out again and we'd have wasted ANOTHER season.
-
No.
-
Nope, given his health condition.
-
If he was fit and well yes, as he isn't, no.
-
Nay said the horse.
-
No
Nothing to do with his health either, he was just shit.
He made a right bollocks of it and I was glad when the board called time on it for him.
-
Bloody right No. I genuinely wish him a speedy recovery but the last two matches without him we win. Coincidence, who knows, but i for one am glad he's gone. Get well soon GH, but do so at home. As for AM, for someone who will bollock the side at half time if need be - then I feel he's more inclined to do so, but that's where it ends for me. I'm so down about this nonsensical situation that i find it draining. I won't say a bad word against Randy, he's been great for us, a breath of fresh air.......but this will go down as a poor decision if McLeish is appointed.
-
Given the alternative is McLeish and who he will bring with him
it aint even a contest. BRING BACK GED!!
-
Don't even pretend to speak for 'all of us on here'.
-
Yes. Health permitting.
The Doctors and Houllier seemed to be reasonably confident that he could have continued.
-
All of who on where?! I aint here, and Gonz certainly ain't ( :) )
Can I pose another question in answer to yours?
To all those who were gurning on about Ancelotti last week.
Would you take him now?
ummmm....
-
Put it this way. It was a transitional season. He finished 9th. He learnt from his mistakes and found a rather good set of formations and players.
I didn't exactly want him to leave in the first place so you bet your bollocks I want him back after this shambles.
BRING BACK GED.
-
No
-
yes
-
Yes. I was quite looking forward to seeing what Villa would be like with a full preseason and summer of his signings. And yes, he did piss me off a lot last season.
-
I would love to know what players he wanted to buy.
-
Without a shadow of a doubt. He'd been planning all season for this Summer's business.
The Guardian reported we had two players lined up already.

I've been told he had a list of gettable signings that would have turned us into top four contenders.
-
Don't say things like that, Dave.
-
If he was fit yep. I'm not really sure what the timescale for his recovery really was but i was a bit dubious about him staying if we were into say september before he recovered enough to manage. I liked what he seemed to be attempting to do and fit he would have got another season from me.. Obviously now i'd probably be tempted to keep him on if he was in in a coma but he will go down as a lost opportunity in my book - i can't remember a manager who got turned on so quickly, what was it 5 months? I'm sure that record will go soon mind.
-
If he was fit without a doubt yes. I think there was a bigger picture view with GH that would have seen us building a very talented squad.
-
No, simple as, wish him all the best and good health, but some of the public outing of players and the akwardness of some of his antics, that poe faced quircky smile after we'd just got hammered a few times i just found very strange indeed, naaa, never a Villa man in a million years.
-

Would agree with that.
He had a lot to sort out in the first half of the season but after January you could see it starting to take shape. With all foreign managers they seem to put their foot in it at times, different cultures may be
-
Not for me but I could change my mind after tomorrow!
-
I am very very bitter and that snippet from Dave about four signings lined up to push for top four has made me worse.
I would sooner have in charge a deceased good manager than a live Alex McLeish.
-

But in reality we would have been battling relegation again. No thanks, lets just get behind the new boss.
-
I, and I would imagine most others, only wanted GH to leave on the proviso he would be replaced by someone more capable of progressing the club.
I, and I would imagine most others would've hoped that the club had this in mind too.
I and I would imagine most others are going to be dissapointed, non-plussed and just a little peeved if the events pan out as expected.
-
If his health was ok I would say yes I could see the direction he was going with us.
-

This.
-
Yes, he had a horror season injury wise and i was looking forward to seeing the players he was going to bring in. On the answers in already a greater percentage would take him back whcih gives a man with a dickie hearT more popularity than AM.

Woah boy! Ease up......
Top 4 contenders?
I think these Rose coloured spectacles hankering for what might have been is somewhat far fetched. I respect your Moderator status et al but let's get a grip on reality here. Downing's goal against Liverpool was the difference between ending up 9th and 14th in a season where we were serious contenders for relegation.
McLeish is NOT the answer......and neither was Houllier.
-
Isn't GH good mates with McLeish? I'm sure he could give him some ideas when it comes to decent signings *frantically clutches at straws*
-
No
he had been away from the day to day too long and was heart attack waiting to happen.
-
If he was fit without a doubt yes. I think there was a bigger picture view with GH that would have seen us building a very talented squad.
This.
Seconded.
-
I would have said no but with McLeish on his way I'd Rather have a Gerard houllier who has lost all his senses.
I'd also have kept bobby pires over the shite I think McLeish will bring in.
-

Agree,if he was well,I couldn't see a problem with what he was doing. Get shot of the dead wood, bring in some young talent with the ability to keep the ball.
Now were stuck with the poor man's M'ON.
-
I've amended the thread title to give people a clue what it's about. Why would you start a thread called "For everybody on here"? Who else do you think is going to be reading it?
-
Yes, I thought he had a great plan by the sounds of it, and we were playing decent stuff. I wonder how ill he really is.
-
I was hoping he would continue. He made some mistakes by trying to change things too quickly but I liked the general direction he was taking us in, a more continental style passing game, more discipline on the training ground, a willingness to rotate and utilise the younger players. I also think his January signings of Bent, Walker and Makoun showed promise and I was looking forward to getting more of the same class in during the summer. I'd have him back like a shot, and I'd have a semi-comatose GH over McLeish.
-
Mcleish or Houlier , Houlier every time
Houlier or Flores Flores every time
-
Another yes. Was disappointed when he called it a day.
-
No

That's what I've been told, and the source was someone who should know.
-
No.
-
Yes.
I posted a few weeks back that I saw a role for GH away from being a touchline manager; with the compensation/settlement we agreed with him, I wonder whether we'd have been better off keeping him in a revised role, bringing in a young up and coming manager to work with him.
I agree that Houllier would have been more capable of bringing in a higher calibre of player than McLeish.
-
No - let's look ahead and put the past behind us.

we could have had Gervinho , it will be Jeromino now...

I just hope the owners didn't push him out unnecessarilly. I certainly hope it wasn't due to them not liking the prospect of having to fork out for his list of gettable signings.
-
Hmmm.
-
I read somewhere we were the 5th best team formwise since Christmas beating the likes of Man City,Liverpool and Arsenal so its Yes.
-
I'd have him back without a seconds thought given the alternative.
-
Yes although a bumpy and rocky road I could see his vision so to speak and was looking forward to a pre-season and transfer dealings this summer.
Yes some of the things he did were unforgivable but some of the Pros ( and I use that loosely) also need to take some responsibility for the car crash of a season.
I had to leave another forum for my support of GH if it wasn't so serious ( in relation to appointing McLeish ) I'd laugh at the be careful what you wish for Houllier Out! brigade.
-
No. His health is too much of an issue. I didn't like him when he was our boss but I will admit I'd prefer a healthy Houllier to the alternative. Let's be fair though, no-one saw this one coming.
-
Health aside yes, I fell in love with him again at Upton Park. I think with a new start and plenty of time to prepare he would have done well.
