One step forward two steps back as has been the case all season.

Villa 1-2 Liverpool and Reina keeping them in it despite us being all over them.

Prior to Sunday I felt we had one "Where the f*ck did that come from?" performance to come - and I would have reckoned it would have been against Liverpool.

Having won at the Emirates, I'll guess normal service will be resumed.  A lacklustre 2-1 home defeat, with Ashley signing off his Villa career with a late consolation.

By 'late consolation' do you mean that Brad lets him take a goal kick, after all it's the only thing he hasn't yet been allowed to do on the pitch this season.

...singing bye bye Ashley Ashley Young.

2-2 for me. Bent and young. Suarez and kuyt.

I'd play 433 again as I'd like to see if we could make it work at home, and get at their fullbacks. I wouldn't make too many changes, but I'd consider starting Clark and makoun. Would like to keep delph in the side as I thought he showed lots of promise v arsenal and can't understand some of the negative commfmts

We are on a high after the Arse result. They are on a low after losing to Spudz. There can only be one winner...1-2 loss.

Role on the summer. Transfers, clear outs, new manager, rumours, being linked to Keane, Defoe, Benzema and probably Beattie for good measure.

The referee for the match is Lee Probert (Wiltshire).

His only encounter with Villa in the league this season saw us defeated at Stoke in August, although we did triumph over Blackburn in the FA Cup this season under Probert's control.

Liverpool have beaten West Brom, West Ham and Fulham - all at Anfield - with Probert this year.

The assistants will be Andy Madley (yellow flag) and John Flynn (chequered). Neil Swarbrick is 4th official.

Home Sport Aston Villa Aston Villa FC news  Villa legend Gordon Cowans advises Gerard Houllier to stay away from Villa Park for Liverpool match
by Mathew Kendrick, Birmingham Mail
May 20 2011
0Share GERARD Houllier has been advised to stay away from Villa Park on Sunday by claret and blue legend and first-team coach Gordon Cowans.

The Villa boss is contemplating returning to the directors’ box for the visit of former club Liverpool as he recovers from his health scare.

But Cowans believes Houllier would be best advised to watch the final match of the season from the comfort of his own home.

The European Cup-winning hero, who is now part of Villa’s backroom staff, thinks Sunday’s game is too soon for Houllier to return. “I think he’d love to be there but I think if he’s sensible he’d stay away.

“I think it’s probably too soon. I’d hate him to get there and be too worked up.

“Obviously with it being Liverpool there will be that bit more call for him to want to be there but I think he’ll do the sensible thing and stay away.”

Villa hope to resolve Houllier’s future within two weeks of the season ending but an announcement is likely to have to wait until their current Premier League arbitration hearing with former boss Martin O’Neill is concluded.

Houllier is also awaiting medical advice.

But Cowans confirmed that Houllier visited the training ground in midweek and is extremely confident of being back in the dugout next season.

“We all expect him 100 per cent to come back,” said Cowans. “He’s in really good nick at the moment. He’s improving as the days go by and he’s got the time to make that improvement.

“He’s feeling fantastic at the moment. He looks very well. He came around on Tuesday, we had a chat then and we saw him again on Wednesday and he looked very well.

“He was in good form and having a laugh and a joke. He’s very positive.

“He’s always on the phone, he can’t leave it alone. He’s that sort of person, he loves football, he lives for football.

Ideal scanrio for me is a tight 0-0 for 89 minutes, meaning Spurs thinking they need the win, and then we win it 1-0 with a very late Bent goal.

If we're leading comfortably (yeah - I know) then Spurs have less onus on them and that may save the scummers.

Someone will no doubt confirm, but I don't think we've ever beaten a team managed by Dalglish.

First time we beat Liverpool in over a decade was 1991/92 - with Souness in charge. We didn't beat Blackburn until Aug 1996 - when he'd moved upstairs or departed (I forget which). And we didn't beat Newcastle between 1993-98, Gullit was in charge when Lee Hendrie scored from the spot IIRC.

Would dearly love to see that change, about time we hammered the cants. But I see a low key 0-1 or 0-2 to them.

I honestly have no idea what the result will be but like some others on here I was expecting a good hiding at Arsenal last week so I'll go 0-4.

Hodgson said the other day that the Tesco bag's aim for the rest of the season was to finish above us and the scum.  We're 1 point behind so I'm hoping we win and they lose at Newcastle although, to be honest, if the scum go down then it'll still be a good day.

It might be one of the clauses which will eventually take the fee up to £24million but unless we are dropping him forever we'll have to pay out eventually, might as well be tomorrow.

We can finish anywere between 14th and 9th, and with about £500, 000 at stake for every position higher up the league we finish any Bent goal would probably make us decent money. Unless there's a clause which states we have to pay a couple of million extra if he scores a certain amount of goals this season, which I think is unlikely. It's far more likely to be a fee once he's reached a certain amount of goals period, which as has already been pointed out, he will do eventually.

Tomorrow is a complete sell out - must be first of the season. Stopped off at the Ticket Office today and there was not not one single ticket available for the match.

It is indeed, sold out just less than a week ago. Think we'll probably get about 41500 in or so - a few pissy season ticket holders on here were making the point of not going.

We have ruined  our supremacy against Wolves and Albion this season by letting them beat us after quarter of a century so now it's payback time. We must end 13 years of hurst and beat these *uckers at VP.

It doesn't matter, Villa use tickets sold as the number announced, not actual attendance, for the attendance figure!

If we win and Stoke, Bolton and West Brom lose we finish 9th, wouldn't be that bad after the season we've had

I really fancy every team to score today, so I'm putting 50p on a goalrush bet!

Did i read somewhere that Carlos is out? I would have liked to see him get a game today. I'd keep the same midfield three as last week, to see if it works as well again. It would'nt surprise me to see Bradley start.

I see the lowest we can finish is 14th while 9th is possible with a win and other results going our way. Strange season.....

Getting a wee bit nervous and I'm not sure why.

2-2, Bent to score ours (both in front of the holte) after losing at half time courtesy of Suarez and Lucas.

is this the first time that every club in the division is playing at the same time on the same day?
if so, its ridiculous-I for one think its more exciting if everyone is playing at the same time? Anybody agree?

and 1-1 today.

Think they have made us all play at the same time and day for about 3 years. maybe longer.

2-2, scousers to get a late equalizer.

Spurs 1-0, Crouch 90+7. A result that sends a certain club to division 2.

3-1 win today for me, liverpool really don't seem bothered about the europa league, couldn't get themselves up for the last home game of the season against a team the could've gone above with a win, can't see how they'll be any more motivated for today.

3-0 Villa, Benty to get one and Young the other two as his final hurrah in claret and blue.

Spuds to win one nil, with a miskick by Gardner bouncing in off Ridgewell's arse on 90 + 5 minutes. Sending the fuckers into a tailspin to oblivion.
