if anyones interested, the reserves are live on the LFC tv channel for free at 7pm tonight. It's channel 544 on Virgin Media. Don't know what that is on the other providers.
-
434 on Sky.
Might put that on...
-
Brilliant.
-
Just found out the match is live on the box right now. I think it's free to watch to non-subscribers too.
-
We going to have this as a proper match thread then!
Got it on now - although not looking forward to the biased commentary.
Gardner up front?
-
Sorry - Lenny just beat me to it.

Gardner up front?
Yes with Marc Albrighton behind him
-
Why are Liverpool wearing Red?
-
Why are Liverpool wearing Red?
Why not ???? the ref has said its ok apparently
-
Clark, Bradley, herd Albrighton all playing.
-
Is it at Hinckley Farm again ?
-
Is it at Hinckley Farm again ?
no villa park
-
Is it at Hinckley Farm again ?
It's at VP
-
Very nice view of my seat!
-
Thank you.
I'm watching now thanks to your thoughtfulness.
-
Nice to hear "the bells are ringin'" in the background
-
The Bells Are Ringing getting a bit of a sing song!
-
Nice one, Billy Walker.
-
Is Warnock playing?
He's been like the kiss of death for the reserves.
-
Is Warnock playing?
He's been like the kiss of death for the reserves.
Nope.....good game so far
-
It's not free on mine
-
Theres more atmosphere than at most of our home games this season.
-
Our fans are making maximum use of the cavernous acoustic possibilities.
-
Bradley's passing is crisp and incisive. Set up that chance for Forrester.
-
Good. Have you seen Gary Gardner play before Bazz? That lad is going to be one hell of a player.
-
Gary Gardner's brother CHRIS is now at Blues according to the commentators.
-
GET IN!!
Albrighton 1-0
-
Goooaaal. Super Marc.
-
Sweet.
Forrester/Albrighton combo.
-
Is GH there?
-
Is GH there?
Yes and Gary Mac
-
Is GH there?
Yes, commentators said they saw him just before kick off.
-
Is GH there?
Yeah.
Forrester looks good, Albrighton looks a class above.
-
Is GH there?
Yes, and Gary Mac
-
Good to see they go & watch the kids.
-
Penalty to Villa
-
penatly! 2-0 Gardner!
-
Gary Gardner.......
....Scores. 2-0
-
good penalty,hope Young was watching!
-
Good stream here http://www.silversportz.co.uk/
-
nice stream
-
Not seen much of Gary Gardner before but he looks very tidy. The penalty indicates that he has a cool head on his shoulders as well.
-
& he's not a bluenose like his bro
-
Regarding GH. He's a renowned workaholic so I'd be surprised if he doesn't get to at least 90% of reserve games. He's right to send Bannan and Delfouneso out on loan rather than play this standard from what I've seen so far
-
Gardner on the bench Sunday? Could happen.
-
Marshall looks a decent keeper to me
-
Salifou looks good as well.
Mind you, he looked good in the Peace Cup and it came to nowt.
Bradley's work is very tidy.
-
Marshall looks a decent keeper to me
Against David N'gog I could manage that feat.
As an aside: Marshall is apparently a decent penalty taker. Not sure how he is at saving them.
-
Is that right - Marc Albrighton is fans player of the season already?
-
The decision to play Herd at centre half against Wolves looks slightly more baffling considering the line up here
-
Is that right - Marc Albrighton is fans player of the season already?
Well I never voted and I think we would know about it!
-
What a fantastic goal that was.
3-0 Gardner.
-
Great header Gary
Does he always play Centre Forward ? I thought he was a midfielder ?
-
Lovely header.
-
Is that really Salifou spraying 60 yard passes about ??
-
3-1
Absolute class goal from the young lad.
-
Did it finish 2-0 then?
-
Well done me Villa babbies!
-
Can't keep a clean sheet anywhere...
-
Did it finish 2-0 then?
Still playing, we're 3-1 up
-
No.
It is 3-1 with 20 minutes left to play.
-
Are we on course to win our division again this year? Think if we do we will get a home final this time? Actually, why are we playing Liverpool I thought we were classed as 'South'?
-
Trouble is, you have to deal with some horrendously biased commentary.
Chris Herd accidentally stood on someone (Paul Ince's lad, I think) and it was made out to be a deliberate stamp. It was obviously accidental; Chris was looking to see where the ball had gone not at where Ince Jr was.
-
Posted this in the rebel breakaway thread...

-
Are we having a post match thread ?
-
Not being a seasoned reserve watcher, I'm no expert, but why doesn't Salifou at least make the first-team bench? He's done at least as much as Pires and is a better distributor of the ball than Ireland.
-
is it me or did that stream just loop back 10 mins
edit
-
Salifou has looked very good tonight
-

just doing it quick

Well I never voted and I think we would know about it!
He has already won the supporters player of the year as he was voted player of the month consistantly and noone else can catch him now
He actually won it about 2 months ago
-
Is that really Salifou spraying 60 yard passes about ??
I noticed that too.
-
Bradley has loads of American caps under his belt and to be honest he dont look any better than any other player on the park !! Think its a trip back to Daddy this summer .....
-
MOM Gardner or Salifou !! ???
-
Gardner. The header for the second goal alone justifies it .....
-
I have to be honest, anytime I've seen Salifou he hasn't looked absolutely atrocious.
To hear the way some go on about him, you'd think we'd plucked a bloke of the street and given him a contract.
He looked OK versus Prague away in the UEFA, decent against Valencia when he came on as a sub in the summer and decent tonight.
-

I disagree with your analysis.

That's what I was saying earlier. Salifou wasn't ever going to be that superstar we picked up for a song and I don't think he's consistently good enough to be a first-team regular but I have no problem with him making the bench. Seems absurd to have bought Pires in when we had an experienced option already knocking around the reserves.
-
Salifou looked very Makounesque tonight albeit with the odd pass over 5 yards long
& no dodgy 2 foot tackles or shennanigans in our box
-
Salifou was good tonight no doubt, but as I mentioned earlier in the thread, he was good in the Peace Cup and nothing came of it.
-
I just think that he hasn't really had a fair crack of the whip. When you look at how indulged Sidwell was when they were at least on a par with what they could bring to the team, it seems unfair. Ditto Isiah Osborne.

good point, i agree
Salifou putting a shift in when he has no future here is admirable stuff

Sidwell had however come from one of the best teams in the country having previously been one of the standout midfielders in the league.
Salifou had struggled to get a game in the Swiss Challenge League.
It's hardly the same thing.

No, I agree with that, but I don't see it as relevant. Direct comparison showed them to be equal in aptitude. Where we got them from or how much we paid is unimportant.
-
I dunno about no future here, he's like Marshall; here to add some experience to the reserves. He's played in a World Cup lets not forget.
He's not shite, but he's not good enough for the first team but I wouldn't be surpised if he was still here next season.

Not really. Salifou has played for us four times in four years. Sidwell, for all his ineffectiveness did do a decent job for a good part of his first season, scoring a couple of useful goals in the process.
-
Can't keep a clean sheet anywhere...
been to the doctors?
-
In answer to the earlier question, Gardner is a midfielder in the Gerrard mould. Not sure how good he is as a ref mind.
-
Good to see us back to winning after 4 straight defeats, I think Warnock and Baye played in the last few which we lost, did anyone see those games who would like to comment on those two?
-
Reserve football is not a good guide to how a player will perform in the prem, we are not so well off for top players that the coaches would be overlooking anyone that could generally help us out of the shit. For those that have seen a fair bit of him could Gary Gardner play along side Bent and is he an agressive player?
-
It was good to see David Fairclough being interviewed after the game.
He was one of the reasons that I was nominally a Liverpool fan as a kid. I lived a couple of doors away from his aunt and uncle. Their daughter (ie David's cousin) was my primary school teacher.
-
For those who went/watched - did Marc Albrighton play centrally up front?
If he did, maybe this is GH's way of him learning to be a striker as opposed to a winger - then next season could see him and Downing flanking Bent as our front three when Ashley departs for pastures new.
Marc needs to be more of a danger in front of goal, to be a bit more clinical with his finishing before he is an all round front man and playing up there in the stiffs will allow him to learn this (hopefully)

Whilst I can see your point about Marc being played there to become more clinical in front of goal, I wouldn't say he was particularly any worse a finisher than Young already.

Albrighton played on the wing. He was very effective and put in some great balls. Gardner played up front and scored a cracking header. Hate to say it but he should be in before Gabby every week ....

Considering Gabby isn't even being played up front I don't think that's a fair comparison.

I was refering to Albrighton. Who has been much more effective on the wing ...

Oh, no arguments there.

I recorded a re-run of this match yesterday on Liverpool TV and started to watch it last night.
It's been a good few years since I last went to a reserve match at Villa Park but I was surprised as to how few people were there. Was there only that one block of seats in the Trinity Middle open for the game?
-

I've been saying for ages that the club could do more to get people to go to reserve games, make them family days, advertise them properly, play them at non-league grounds a bit nearer to our heartland than Hinckley etc. but the club seem to be going in the opposite direction and making it even harder to find out when they are on, and if you do find out, it turns out they could be being played on a Wednesday afternoon at Bodymoor!
It's not the biggest issue of course, but I like reserve games but I'm not schlepping off to bloody Hinckley to watch 'em!
-
The first I knew the match was on was when someone posted it on here.
What the club should've done was tied it in with the meet at the Holte Suite for the "Bells Are Ringing" sing song. Maybe even recorded the fans singing it inside the stadium whilst the game was on.
-
is it still free to watch the stiffs ?

Only if you have a season ticket, I think.

Villa v Liverpool reserves live on Liverpool TV tonight [ko 7pm]
-
This surely has to be the most confusing recovery of an old thread ever? I know the mods can be strict about not starting a new topic before you've searched to see if it already exists, but i think you might've been forgiven for letting this one go!
-
Not sure what's confusing about it amfy.
-
Excellent work, Goldie.
Recycling threads where absolutely appropriate is admirable. It certainly reduces the number of threads which end up in landfill.
*hugs tree*
-
Is it free on Virgin?

Villa v Liverpool reserves live on Liverpool TV tonight [ko 7pm]
Is this a warm up for Liverpool - v - the Villa Reserves next Saturday.
-
I opened it and it was talking about the game being on "now", but I know it doesn't kick off till tonight. Then I realised the thread is from the fixture last season, right up until the last post. I may be wrong, but I think we are usually OK to start a new match thread in a new season.
-
No having a go mind - it shows admirable dedication, I just think it may be taking the principle a little far!
-
Stephen Warnock commentating on the game for Liverpool tv tonight
-
Not having a go either, thanks for the info Goldie, I'd have missed it otherwise.
Could it have been added in the reserves/academy sticky? http://www.heroesandvillains.info/forumv3/index.php?topic=46272.0 (http://www.heroesandvillains.info/forumv3/index.php?topic=46272.0)
