If you dont know yet, our vitally important game against Wolves this saturday will be in the hands of one of Stoke on Trents finest.
The man who believes why should you give a red card if you can at all get away with a yellow ? Especially if its against Serbian central defenders who play for such a glamourous north western club.
The man who is a fully paid up member of the Sir Alex Ferguson appreciation society and was obviously a bit worried that his heroes trophy haul may not be increasing at a sufficient rate.
The man who just a little over a year ago helped give you all such a lovely day out at Wembley.
Yes, coming to Villa Park for the first time since that day.
PHIL DOWD- WELCOME TO VILLA PARK ! >:(
-
booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
-
That should add nicely to the atmosphere.
-
I really hope he gets the welcome he deserves. I have always thought the bloke to be the worst ref in the Premiership, even before his performance at Wembley last season.
-
Inept twat!
-
Bastard.
-
I wonder if a polite ripple round the stadium would be more effective that gallons of flob and rude songs.
Nah, fucking stupid idea.
-
Worth a goal to the gold liveried team.
-
Already packed the 2p coins, quality ammo ;)
-
I think everyone should turn up with a red card. Show the useless twat what one is. Wanker.
-
Get on his back and I'm sure we will get a penalty out of the useless tosser- goodness me this is going to be some occasion on Saturday.
-
Gah, it's brought all the memories flooding back. The bloke stood next to me at Wembley going mad with excitement because we'd somehow been given a penalty against Man U, while I continued to wonder why on earth Vidic hadn't been sent off.
Dowd - prepare yourself.
-
I'm quite surprised he hasn't refereed a game at Villa in that time
Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
-
I'm still very sore about that day.
-

Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Im not. But obviously they think after leaving it a year we have started to forget.
Im sure they are right and he wont be given a rough ride eh?
-
The fact the FA kept the weasal face twat away for over a years just shows how embarrased they are by his inept possibly corrupt abilities.
-
Dowd = Sky 4 loving, Manyoou loving, toadying, rooney loving wanker.

Phil Dowd, is a dirty twat, Phil Dowd, is a dirt twat!
to the tune of whichever song is used for Tom Hanks is a Villa fan
-
He's not long back from a demotion to the Championship for his 'performance' in the Newcastle 4 - Arsenal 4 game where he gave Newcastle 2 of the softest penalties you'll ever see in your lifetime. He celebrated his return in the Liverpool vs Man Utd game where he missed Carraghers challenge on Nani but he did send Vidic off for 2 minor tackles.
I'm not sure that he's bright enough to favour his decisions for one team or another, I just think he's shit & we have to hope he's shit in our favour this time. But I wouldn't count on it.
I can guarantee that he will stop the flow of the game at every opportunity, will miss or bottle the majority of big decisions & will give several bookings for minor or mistimed tackles.

If I remember correctly then he didn't even show Vidic a yellow for the Penalty incident. I think he showed him a yellow in the 2nd half, so even if he'd been booked for the Penalty incident he'd have eventually got a Red, better late than never, so Vidic basically earned a straight Red and a Yellow card offence in one game and stayed on the Pitch!
(If I've got that completely wrong then its because a) it was over a year ago, and b) I was bladdered at Wembley.)
-
I've been looking forward to getting this excuse for a referee again (not) -
His presence alone should create a hostile atmosphere -

Just checked and your absolutely spot on despite being pissed. The bastard didnt even show him a yellow for denying Gabby a goal scoring opportunity.
-
vidic got booked in the 68th minute
-
It wouldn't make it much easier, but wouldn't it be refreshing if, just once, a ref who'd dropped a major bollock said 'yeah I got that badly wrong'. Or even more unlikely if that twit from Leeds ever dared say that one of his members had performed at a lower standard to that which was expected. We know it's a hard job and they can't see everything. It's just that post-fact, when the pictures are showing just how wrong they got a big game changing decision, they still stick to their guns. Sorry does go a long way sometimes.
-
Inept twat!
inept unfit twat.
-
His match preparation is already in make it up to them mode. It's how they work.
We'll get every 50/50 on Saturday.
-
Will we fuck. We never do.
-
Hmmmm, I predict my seasons record for calling the ref an "arse hole" in the shortest period post kick off, is going to get dumped on Saturday.
Ah well, maybe he'll focus the angst away from certain of our senior players if they play :)
-
Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, scumbag
-
meh
*shrugs shoulders*

meh

Not quite indifferent enough to just ignore the thread though, eh Peter.
I hope he gets the full treatment on Saturday.

The point being that one ref is very much like another. Doesn't really matter who we get as long as we win.

not only that, he also didnt show him a second yellow for leaving the pitch, despite giving ashley young a yellow for doing what boys and girls?
leaving the pitch...
so not only should he have had a red card, he also should have had a red card...
not to mention nani's elbow..
dowd is a twat...

The new David Ellery?

Trouble is it's likely to be for Wolves!

I don't think he's a bad as Howard Webb.
-
I don't think he's a bad as Howard Webb.
Webb's performance in the Chelsea Semi Final was at least as bad as Dowd's in the Carling Cup Final...
1) Blatant Penalty for a foul on Gabby not given early on
2) Failing to send off Terry for his potentially leg breaking tackle on Milner

All refs make cock ups and I actually think Webb is a decent ref although he did get those decisions in the semi-final completely wrong. But Dowd is not only a shit ref, he comes across as a right twat with a massive beer belly.
-
Fat refs, we always get Fat Refs ......
-
Perhaps he'll even things up by giving us at least 2 pens
Step forward Ash or Bent ??
-
Neither inspire me with much confidence from the spot.
-
-
Again he was useless, the challenge on bent was in the box and stearman should have got a 2nd yellow, the crazy thing was none of the Villa players argued and just took the free kick.
-
I think it's fair to say that Mr Dowd fully lived down to all expectations of him today
-
I'm not going to give the manager and players an excuse to hide behind- let them take responsibility for their pathetic display today.
-
Not trying to give anyone an excuse for anything - merely an observation that Phil Dowd is still a crap ref
-

Spot on - can you imagine the reaction of Man Utd players etc - just went to show how much they really give a fuck !
-
Can someone please explain the pass back rule to me, because there looked like a deliberate pass back in the first half.
-
Can someone please explain the pass back rule to me, because there looked like a deliberate pass back in the first half.
The back-pass rule refers to two clauses within Law 12 , these clauses prohibit the goalkeeper from handling the ball when a team-mate has intentionally "kicked" the ball to him, or when handling the ball directly from a team-mate's throw-in.
The ball went back to the keeper off the players knee, so was not `kicked`.
In this particular incident, Dowd did signal to his knee to play on.
-
I wonder at which point in a player's leg a kick is not a kick. The same interpretation of intent that is used to judge handball should be applied. If a player uses any part of his arm from shoulder to fingertip to control the ball it is handball. If a player uses any part of his leg to control the ball - in this case to pass the ball to the goalkeeper, it is a kick.
To say that propelling the ball deliberately with your knee is not a kick because you kick with your foot is like saying a handball is not a handball because you used your elbow not your hand.
-
The law says it has to be kicked. I am not here to defend bottler Dowd but his interpretation was correct. If you are arguing the law should be changed fine.
The only proviso to this is that if the player had clearly and deliberately created a trick to get the ball back to the keeper. If he had intentionally flicked the ball up then pushed the ball back with his knee, then its unsportsmanlike behaviour and the player should be booked irrespective of whether the keeper then picks it up. If the keeper does pick the ball up, he has then committed a non bookable offence and its an indirect free kick.
-
He even managed to fuck up the minute's silence.
-
Thought he should have sent Stearman off. Came through the back of Bents head to in the first half, then booked, then what looked from the other end like a bad foul on the edge against Bent, then 3-4 more after that. Though he was a very lucky boy.
-
certainly should have had a pen, although tbh, young would more than likely have missed it anyway, but dowd is appalling...
