Title: 0% Villa French radio boycott MUFC-OM game
Post by: Bad English on March 15, 2011, 06:17:01 PM
I was listening to France Info in the car this evening and the presenter said that Newton Heath had asked each French radio station for €26,000 (£22,600) in order to transmit live commentary from The Theatre of Wankers (UK radio stations were allowed to work for no charge in the Stade Vélodrome for the first leg).

The radio stations "unanimously decided to refuse this racketeering and will just be giving updates on the score".

Well, I say fair play to them. Greedy ******!

Good for them, although I suppose poor old United need to pay off their debts and fund Rooney's crippling whore habit somehow.

I bet they were hoping to scrape together a day's wages for Shrek from them.

OL can name two broadcasters to cover the game for free, as according to UEFA  rules (local station France Bleu Provence and national RMC Sports).
It's just that there are at least three other national stations all wanting  to provide live coverage (RTL, France Inter, Europe1 etc), and as such are being charged.

As such all radio stations involved have told ManYoonytid to fuck off, quite rightly. Money-grabbing cnuts.

In related news, I also heard a two-minute Robert Pires interview in French on Marseille's chances tonight. How the fuck does he find time to to talk about other clubs when we have got the Dingles coming up on Saturday and has to do all that travelling to training?

Now that M Bob doesn't have to shave a flange into his chin, he has time on his hands

I'm sure he could get between all these things if he ran...

Maybe it was conducted during the commute ;-)

Just heard it, he essentially said ManYoo is still the number one team in England and Marseille must be careful not to fall into the trap of being intimidated by the fans and the stadium.

Now it really is Houllier's fault.

Darren maybe Pires finds the time to give interviews while doing all that training and travelling the way a busy schoolteacher finds time to listen to the radio.

Yes, yes, but I can piss around, as the Education Nationale in France are getting incredible value for money with me. ;-)

For any OM fans wondering: you are 1-0 down already.

Perhaps if the radio and television stations here had to pay extra fees we might get more competent broadcasters.   I thought John Inverdale was a joke at Twickenham on Sunday (quote - the Japanese have got to roll with the punch) but at Cheltenham this afternoon he was totally out of his depth (quote - to Claire Balding - but all the horses you have picked are grey).

I have only just recovered from hearing Clive Tyldesley slip into his commentary last week "when I was having a spot of lunch with Capello last week".   The vomit inducing word is "spot".

I might listen to Woodward if the Villa pay me.

I might listen to Woodward if the Villa pay me.

I wouldn't.

I even cover my ears when I leave my seat in the Upper Trinity (a few minutes early to beat the traffic, done-to-death-argument fans) and have to pass through the concorse where the tellies are still blaring out his Partridgean commentary, just in case I catch any of it.

On the subject of matters Partridgean.   If you are ever in East Anglia, God forfend going to a game against Norwich, and want a laugh go into the BP filling station on the A11 just after the Thickthorn junction with the Norwich ring road.   This is where they shot a lot of very funny Knowing Me Knowing You footage.

If the manager of the filling station is there just say "isn't this where they filmed Alan Partridge?"   His reaction can be measured on the Richter Scale.

I always do it when I have had a bad day at Yarmouth races and it cheers me up no end.
