Friedel, Walker, Dunne, Clark, Baker, Albrighton, Reo-Coker, Downing, Young, Pires, Bent.

Subs: Marshall, Agbonlahor, Herd, Petrov, Bradley, Heskey, Delph.

So mixed. Marc back in, no Gabby on the wing, no blindly just playing out-of-form Petrov. However, Pires? No Bannan in the squad AGAIN? Seriously? Oh dear.

Because Houllier promised him games when he signed him.

Hopefully he repeats his performance last time he played and we played Blackburn.

Off to VP now...have left it a little late today...to see if we can stop our losing sequence against BBurn. Yes that is  is correct we have lost  the last 3 league games against them!

Defence looks very inexperienced.

Something must have happened for Bananaman to be frozen out.

Same team I went for apart from he's gone pires ahead of Bradley- should be an interesting game.

If Heskey is fit I am surprised he doesn't try him with Bent.  Potentially they might make a decent partnership.

Well we know what he's doing and why with Bannan, and Bannan appears accepting of it. It just seems a bit bizarre when he is a lot better than the player who's playing instead of him.

Not concerned about the defence (for a change) - seeing Clark in his stronger position makes sense and Walker and Baker are the future.
The challenge for me is - as said by most above - the apparent lack of muscle in midfield.

Hope Pires plays like he did against blackburn in the cup fixture

Arsey, there was never any mention of spurs selling walker- he's here for premier experience , no mention of a sale , redknapp made that clear at the time , if we did want him
we would need to make a very big offer to even tempt them.

*Applauds sentiment*

Arsey, he's said a lot of things re Bannan which are out there to look up. The nub of it seems to be that he thinks Bannan has been hopelessly mis-handled by MON and needs training rather than games, like all young players. Bannan has said he's willing to wait. But yes, it does get frustrating.

At least Young is back on the wing and Gabby is not on the wing - so that for me is a positive! Good to see Albrighton back as well.
Pires is not the future or present for me but that is the only question mark over the team for me?

Walker - Dunne - Clark - Baker
Pires - NRC - Downing
Albrighton - Bent - Ash

I think Ash and his current position are part of our problems. Not only are we wasting a great winger in it but it actually for me harms the effectiveness of our midfield as it is more easily overrun without that third actual midfield player. I'd put Bannan in for him.

However, it might also be better if we find a proper second striker who can play that old number ten role better.

Again, we're playing a game in which we think we're much better than we are. Passing it around well out of the danger zone will never cause anyone problems, especially when you can't pass it that well. If we played to our strengths, we might create chances. This way, it's all pinball.

Pires is playing well and we have been in control (sort of) for much of the half.  That makes it more frustrating that we have failed to score though, but yes there are some good things, however, in a relegaiton scrap I can only see what we should be doing better as being relevant.  Particularly at 0-0.

Liverpool should finish 6 th but if we did come 7th we may get into Europe depending who wins the cups-no reason not to feel confident after this win, Bolton are not easy but they are beatable.

I take it the Uefa spot goes to 7th if Arse win tomorrow and if both sides in the FA cup final are in the top 6.

Oh bloody hell, there is only United, Citeh and Arsenal left in the FA Cup out of the top 6 and Man Utd play Arse in the quarter finals.

Great chance again. Lovely work by Stew. Let's see where all the Downing bashers are tonight.

Do you have to be quite so pathetic?

what are you talking about Risso? Why did you feel so aggrieved over that? It's a genuine statement, because had he not played well we'd have had two threads from people over how bollocks he is, and how he bottles everything

Poor Nelsen. His wife went into labour the day of the earthquake in New Zealand and he was told he could go back home if he wanted.

When you lose = tippy tappy
When you win = pass and move

If they want to be clever, a banner over the M40 tomorrow evening saying "welcome home losers" would be the way to go.
