Title: Chev Walker
Post by: wookster on February 06, 2011, 08:11:18 AM
I hope that we have a negotiated option to buy in his loan agreement with a preset price.

With his recent performances, and also being picked for the latest England squad, Spurs are bound to try to bump up the price.

Preset price? Very unlikely, I'd say.

I think there's very little chance Spurs will let him go anywhere permanently this summer.

Rumour had it that Redknapp would only sanction the loan deal if it were with the view to a permanent move at the end of it.

I can't remember where that was from, but it was certainly there around the time he signed.

I really hope thats true Dave would love nothing more than to see him signed up at Villa Park.

I think we should be going all out to get him, and hope he has, by the summer, seen enough to want to come.

Can't see that myself. He's only 20 so I imagine Spurs have just sent him out to get some experience the same as we do with our kids.

He looks a class act though. I don't think I saw a mistake from him yesterday, which is more than can be said for our "left back"! The sooner we can get an actual left back the better. Warnock must've shagged Houllier's daughter or something equally offensive!

I could see Redknapp selling him. I think he'd consider selling everyone in his squad for the right cash.

I have just done a quick check on the internet and checked his "wicki" page, BBC sport, Spurs website, our website, etc and I can find no mention of a permanent deal after the loan deal has expired so we will have to see.

I think it will happens, but again we don't know what the agreement, our or Spurs plans are. I want it to happens. If Gerrard and Randy want him, he will do everything to get him providing it is not too mad.

I guess it depends what Walker decides is best for his future. I'd imagine being a first pick here is better than being 3rd at Spurs.

Neil warnock said spurs were not interested in selling walker but wanted him to go to villa on loan for premiership experience and that's why he left qpr, spurs see walker as part of their future I feel but with ash being widely touted at around £12.5m if he leaves , then there may be a way to include walker in any deal if spurs are after ash.

I would like walker but I fear spurs would be looking for around £10m for an England international at his age, but I really don't think even at that price spurs would sell , neil warnock was talking about Waller recently and he reckons spurs have high hopes for him - they are doing us a favour loaning him and we are giving him games at this level so it's fair enough. There is no buy option!

There are plenty of young players who were clearly very good that Redknapp has sold.

Taraabt and Boateng are the two that spring to mind, both after very successful loan spells.

He has played well for us but he's not a CL class player yet and that is where Spurs are, I'd think we have every chance of buying him if we want to in the summer. To my mind he needs to be a bit physically stronger as i've seen him eased off the ball by similarly sized players but he is very promising when he has the ball and he doesn't half get up and down the field. Lets enjoy his time here because he looks like he could be a top rate player in the future.

The only thing in our favour is spurs have Hutton and corluka , but it's more likely they would sell one of those if walker proves his ability in the premiership.

Harry has made noises in the past about ash and downing , but I would not want to lose downing in any deal , if spurs were to part with walker they would probably looking at a straight swap for ash who with a year on his contract would be around £12m.

Maybe houllier has a couple of full backs lined up in the summer but sadly I'd be very surprised if spurs were to sell walker- although every player does have a price, walker has another 10 years ahead of him at the top level , neil warnock was pretty clear that spurs have absolutely no interest in selling him , similar to wilshere at bolton he is here to gain experience.

True, but they're not exactly well stocked in the right back area. Hutton's had a decent year but he's not rated and they tried to sell Corluka to Liverpool in January, and probably would have had Kelly not improved so much.

I can't see Spurs selling him at all.

Walker has now had a taste of regular PL football, he may very well force the issue if he's not going to be first choice there.

Walker on loan to us is a bit like our players out on loan. We would like most of them to do well as this will decide  that either  we sell them  for reasonable amount of money or they develop  so well that they are back in our squad and hopefully the first team. Either way we win. The other opyion is that they don't do too well and come back to us as a burden to deal with!

We are hoping that Carew and  Ireland will  be snapped up and the young ones will  come back better players.

Walker is not that good. He is just a little better than  our recent fullbacks. His defending and decision making is questionable. So I am not that bothered and I would not pay more than 5m for him.

I can see Walker developing into a top class full back. He's still raw but he's got all the attributes, quick, strong, comfortable on the ball and seems to like getting stuck in. For all those reasons I'd be surprised if Spurs are willing to sell him but anything is possible with that barrow boy in charge.
Title: Re: Chev Walker
Post by: PeterWithe on February 06, 2011, 11:26:09 AM
I'm sure it must be an optical illusion but he always seems a lot quicker when attacking then he is when defending, strrange that.

Post by: JJ-AV on February 06, 2011, 11:27:13 AM
It's his energy and work rate which are his best attributes. There were times yesterday when we were pushing for the winner that Walker was sprinting 30 yards across the pitch to help stop the counter attack.

He'd been getting up and down all day, I've no idea where he gets his energy from, but I like it.

Needs to improve his crossing though!

In fairness jj it was very windy and that probably affected his crossing yesterday, very positive player and will replace glen Johnson in the England team as a regular starter very soon I feel, I expect him to play well against Denmark on weds night.

He's a good player but he still needs to improve his defending, If he's been loaned with an option to buy then surely the price has been agreed?
Title: Re: Chev Walker
Post by: eastie on February 06, 2011, 12:14:33 PM
He's not been loaned with an option to buy- he's been
loaned to gain experience in the premiership, no option to buy!

Redknapp said how highly he rates him when he loaned him to us and he wants to see how he goes at this level, I expect him to be a spurs regular next season unfortunately .

He’ll improve all round with the more games he plays.

But you have to say that he’s genuinely exciting when he picks up the ball and thinks “nuts to this for a game of soldiers” and steams towards goal at 100mph. His crossing was poor yesterday, but you cannot knock his confidence.  His positioning could improve defensively, but he looks a tall lad and his pace will get him out of trouble.

MM reckons he wants to stay at B6.

He may well want to stay but if Spurs want £7-£10m or a swop for Ashley then he should go back as he isnt worth that, there are other full backs around ie Clyne @ Palace, etc

I'd love him to stay here and I believe he's enjoying his time here ,if we did tempt them to sell though it will take serious money , I would be amazed if he became available at less than £10m.

When you look at the crazy money glen Johnson has twice gone for , a young England right back with his whole career ahead would not come cheaply, especially in today's Market.

Agree. £10million? Straight swap for Young? Fuck me! I know the market has gone mental but anyone who thinks and is willing to pay that has been on crack. He is after all a somewhat defensively suspect albeit promising right back.

They reportedly paid between varied estimates of £8m to £11m for him and naughton at the time from Sheffield utd , as an inexperienced full back pairing , which raised eyebrows at the time.

Yes £8m rising to £11m with add ons apparently , which seemed incredible considering how little that had played at the time , although I guess similar could be said of gareth bale as well.

He was excellent for Sheffield United too by all accounts (hence Spuds signing him) so he's been performing for a while. I'd think he'll be the eventual long-term RB for England if he continues his development, having said that, I think perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself slightly!

Signed a three year deal I think, so the summer.

Seems to have disappeared off the face of the planet lately. Still injured? I don't recall Hotlips speaking about his attitude along with Warncock and Beye.

The kid Kelly @ Liverpool is very good too and I can see them battling it out for the England right back berth in the very near future

taken from the BBC Website

Aston Villa full-back Luke Young has seen a specialist in London to try to solve his ongoing knee problem.

The 31-year-old has not played since 6 December and manager Gerard Houllier is keen to get to the bottom of the issue.

"He trains and doesn't feel anything and then at training the following day he feels something," said Houllier. "Obviously we need to sort that out.

"I played him regularly every game until the Liverpool game and then he got injured and never came back."

Young has been dogged by injury setbacks this season, with the knee issue following hip and ankle troubles, and has been restricted to appearances in only 14 of Villa's 25 league games this season.

Last month Villa signed Tottenham defender Kyle Walker on loan until the end of the season as cover for the England international.

Houllier did not put a time frame on Young's recovery, adding: "Luke saw a specialist yesterday [Wednesday] in London, so it will depend what the results are."

I think I saw on the website luke was going to a specialist because he is still feeling pain and they haven't really found the problem as yet. Houllier was asked about him this week.

You beat me to it spangley!
