Title: North Walsall Supporters Club
Post by: HOLTENDER on January 20, 2011, 10:16:38 PM
Would anyone who lives in the "North Walsall" area (Pelsall, Bloxwich, Shelfield, Aldridge, Brownhills, Rushall etc) be interested in meeting up regularly to talk Villa "face to face" including sharing travel plans etc for home and away games?

I am currently in the process of setting up an official Lions club and was wondering if it would be worth going down the route of arranging for a host pub to facilitate meetings on a monthly basis and thought this may be an ideal place to get a feel for the size of interest in this geographical area.

PM me if you would be interested.

Mods: if this is not appropriate for this forum, please feel free to move somewhere more suitable.

Hello there all,

I run The wharf 10 bar (next to the art gallery/canal in Walsall town centre) and have basically turned it into Walsall's official Villa hang out pub.  We have Scandavian Satellite and show all of the 3pm games aswell as the ones Sky/ESPN show...including cup games.

Great beer prices and range, and food served all day (2 meals for £5.50)!!

Sorry to keep the promos going but I'm a massive Villa fan and if you are in Walsall pop in and ask for Luke.

UTV.

It's really not that bad. Granted it's got a few of your small town local chavs/drunks etc, but as a venue we keep that lot out. Last plug I swear.

It really is that bad. Not your establishment, just Walsall in general.

Walsall really is a shit hole. I blame the quality of the kids that the teachers are churning out... Is'nt that right Legion? ;-)

The Clayhanger divison is interested.  I don't get to many home games due to work & family issues, but I'm working on changing that...

Cottage been boarded up for weeks now. Used to drink there occasionally but not an all together pleasant experience. Definitely recommend The Wharf though, good place and a canal next door to chuck yourself in if we go down.

Walsall has gone down a lot in last few years. Revolution has had a metal detector on the door recently and are now insisting everybody shows I.D. I am 38 and have been told if i dont bring it I will not get in!(They have allowed me in twice without it but i am on my "last chance" apparently)This will kill their over 30 s trade as no one really carried ID at that age. It also has a major Coke problem with it blatantly being taken in the toilets.
WS1 is no where near as good as it was few years ago mainly due to silly door policies by previosu manager. Current lad is better though and it has got slightly better and busier in last few months.
God help walsall when Samra finally opens the old Sofa Sofa. He will have every scum bag from every bad area in there!

I quite like the Wharf but hardly ever go! I will say hi when next in there Luke!

What school dom you teach at Legion? My parents were both headteachers in Walsall until they retired. I was a QM lad

Unfortunately nothing that drastic!  Mrs Pablo wants to get back to season tickets & away trips just as much as me, but with our oldest kid being disabled & me often working away it makes the old work/life balance tricky.

One of these had a severe water leak over Xmas, so is being refurbished for an re-opening before Easter, & the other I read went bust.  I just can't remember which one is which...

The Social club (Scratter) in Pelsall (junction of Norton Rd & Wolverhampton Rd - by the fingerpost) is looking best at the moment ....... cheap ale and a chioce of rooms depending how many turn up.

Looking at 7th March for 1st meeting at 7pm.
Will pm you all when I have finalised the details

Thanks again to everyone  :)

No, just a Villa fan!

There are some great benefits of being in an official supporters club that will be discussed at the meeting.

And definetley the more the merrier, as if we decide to run our own coaches to games, we can do local pick ups around the Walsall area  ............ even Bently!

You needed to put "I believe" I do believe. You clearly know what that place is all about my old china.  It's ok, this is an open minded site you can tell us?

Not that I frequent it, but I believe the Golden Lion is a bar for those gents who are good with colours.

I didn't know that about The Wharf, I go in there quite a bit - best pub in Walsall for my money. The barmaids are very, ahem, photogenic, I won a tenner in the quiz machine last week and it's got a cool vibe. Although I watched a band in there the other week and they were a bunch of arseholes.

CURIOUSORANGE - Indeed the Golden Lion is "fruity" but cheap on a tuesday night and friendly to straight people.  Yeah, unfortunately there are quite a few bands with egos even though they are still not signed but we seldom ask them back if they have an attitude problem.

We had a decent turn out tonight and the Man Utd game next week should be rammed.

It was funny more than anything - as they went to the stage to play, the lead singer leaned over to me and said 'You can come and stand at the front now, the real show's about to start' like I was suddenly going to jizz myself. Instead I contented myself with openly flirting with their bassist's bit of stuff.

What day's the United game? I'll probably come down and have a few.

That will be decided at the meeting .... but if the club is going to buy tickets in advance for home and away games, there will need to be something in the kitty. I cannot get 20 tickets at £40 a pop out of my back pocket if everybody asks for them!

it will ultimatley be up to those that attend the meeting to set the fee if there is to be one ... or do we just run raffles etc to raise some funds ..... all will be resolved at the meet.

Hope you can attend?

Its down to the individual club and what they want to get from it.

As I say, It will be up to those that attend to set out the branch rules ............ as long as they do not contradict the Supporters Club rules.

The Wharf's the ONLY decent bar in Walsall - I'd point blank refuse to go out anywhere in Walsall these days, except The Wharf.

I didn't know you showed the 3pm games. Good to know!

Thanks to all that have expressed an interest in the NW Lions.

I know a lot of you have said you will be attending and I look forward to meeting you Monday night. Please do not be shy about bringing friends/children/WAG's along, as the more there on the night the better.

There is now a NW Lions thread on the membership group forum, where I will keep people updated with what events are coming up etc.
