A Hereford sporting legend is recovering in hospital after being dragged out to sea by huge waves while he played football on the beach with his daughter.
While the former right back has made progress, there are renewed fears for the family and friends as Queensland's horrifying floods continue to dominate the headlines.
Chirs, also a former aston villa and Blackburn Rovers player, had been enjoying a game of football on the beach with his youngest daughter and her boyfriend. Minutes later they found Chris face doen in the water. They dragged him onto the sand before a lifeguard assisted them.
Chris was put on Oxygen but went into cardiac arrest and stopped breathing. He was taken to resuscitation and intensive care once he eventually arrived at the hospital following traffic problems.
Someone mentioned on Twitter that he'd been rushed to hospital, but this is all I could find about it online (courtesy of a Blackburn Forum who found it in the Herefordshire Journal.
Either way get well soon Chris and fingers crossed your family/friends get found alive.
EDIT - Just noticed Mark Kelly mentioned it in Off Topic too in the Global Warming thread.
-
Good luck Chris, and all the people suffering in those floods.
-
Best of luck Chrissy Price, and all those down under!
-
bloody hell. Have some really good memories of Chris Price. Especially that one of him bombing past Andy Brehme at Villa Park. Good luck and speedy recovery.
-
Get well soon Chris - I was there when you scored 'that' goal at Highbury the day after my 21st birthday. Great night.
-
He may have no hair but about this we do care ...hope he get well soon
-
Get well soon, Chris.
-
He used to booze in our local pub when I was younger, he liked a few beers and was always willing to have a chat with anyone. A good bloke,
-
Sound like a, er, hair-raising experience...
-
Good little player was Chrissy Price, he signed around the same time as Mountfield if memory serves me correct.
Get well soon Chris.
-
My abiding memory is of his backpass at Oldham but then again that might say more about me than him.

My abiding memory is the 89th minute at Highbury in 1990. Delirium on the Clock End. Oh, what a night!
-
As my user name might suggest he was a particular favourite from my younger days. Loved to see him bombing forward and he made the most of his talent.

Same here. What a goal that was. Good luck Chris!

He might not score much but he had been our top 3 right back in the 90s and 00s
-
All the best Chris , you've got no hair but we don't care ,
-
one of my first heroes. get well soon chris. UTV
-
Top bloke, my mate got me his autograph a couple of years back when he was living in Spain. Hope he gets well soon.
-
If you see this - all the best and thanks for Highbury!
-
As my 10000th post (well probably not as they keep going down every few days) I would like to wish him all the best. He was in the team when I first started watching and certainly in my first football memories of the Villa. As such he is a legend, as all of those early teams were as they were the heroes. I was a mere kid wishing I could one day be one of them.
Get well soon Chris, all the best.
-
When did we sign him, was it the summer just after we got promoted or was it the following year when McGrath and Nielsen arrived? He wasn't here in SGT's first season was he.
-
Pretty sure he was here the year before God and Flobber Kent arrived. Can picture him in that pink-and-burgundy stripy Hummel monstrosity. In fact I think he was in the promotion squad the year before.
-
Get well soon, Chrissy Price.
-
Get well soon, Chris.

Get well soon Pricey and thanks for THAT goal at Highbury.

I'm another one for the childhood memories! One of my early Villa heroes. All the best wishes Mr Price.

A legend at Zindyferrrrd Town

Just seen on another site a post from Chris saying he was washed out to sea and his lungs filled with water, now he's at home recovering from pneumonia.
Get well soon Chrissie.

that was a hell of a night. I was stopping with relatives down there and my uncle went straight to bed in a mood, didnt say alot the next day either!
-
I confess that I'd had a big night on the horse tranquilsers the previous evening, but didn't Price score a New years day 30-yard screamer at Middlesbrough one time?
Or was I still hallucinating?
Either way, I shall take the memory to my grave.
edit
Flash back!!! it was Alan Wright

I'm pretty sure he wasn't in the promotion squad as I was saying all year that we should buy him, might not be the appropriate time to say that he never quite seemed to hit the heights with us that he did with Blackburn in my view.

He was here before the Lord and Kent Nielsen, but after our season in the Second Division I think. Same kit though. Joined in summer 1988/89 IIRC around the same time as Derek Mountfield. Had a reputation as a goalscoring fullback at t'Rovers, even scored against us in that promotion season.
We knocked that out of him though. 2 goals in four years for us.
-
My main memory of Chris Price was him turning Andreas Brehme inside-out in the home Inter game in 1990, followed closely by the goal at Arsenal.
-
Scored the winner in my first game. Get well soon Pricey.
-
Was there at the Clock End but for some reason my abiding memory of him was in the game versus Arsenal at home the following season under Vengloshh.
My old man always used to argue that Tony Cantscoreino wasn't that bad a forward, he was just starved of service. I never fully agreed, he always looked a bit shit to me.
Apart from in the old Second Division and his first season in the topflight when he looked like one of the best forwards in the league. Weird times.
But anyway. In the above game he had a point. It got so bad that at one stage Cas went out wide looking for the ball and ended up crossing it...into Chris Price. Who got nowhere near the thing. Just about summed up our season, that.

And get well soon, Chris.
-
My favourite memory is him winning a pen at Sheff Weds(?) and giving the old hand shady sign as he sat on the floor. But now I type this I wonder if it really happened? Can anyone help?

CHRIS PRICE RECOVERING AFTER FREAK ACCIDENT
One week ago, former Aston Villa right-back Chris Price, who played
over 100 games for the club from 1988-1992, nearly lost his life when
he was caught by a 'rip' underwater current and dragged out to sea
while playing football with his youngest daughter on a beach near his
home in Brisbane, Australia.
Chris was eventually found face down in the water and not breathing.
Whilst the beach lifeguards were working to resuscitate him, Chris
suffered a cardiac arrest and the lifeguards started CPR until the
ambulance arrived. Chris was then taken to the Gold Coast hospital and
immediately put on life support in the Acute Care Unit.
Chris has since been allowed to return home after showing good signs
of recovery. However, when at home he suffered a further set-back when
he contracted pneumonia as a result of the amount of sea water in is
lungs. He is now on medication for that and slowly improving. It's
going to be a long time before Chris gets back to normal as he still
can't walk yet, but can stand with help.
On top of this, Chris and his family are having to battle the
horrendous floods that have now hit Brisbane and Queensland in
general.
Chris and his wife Linda would like to thank everybody in the UK for
their concern and messages of support.
-
The thought occurs that Chris Price face down in a river and unconscious still makes a better right back than Carlos Cuellar.
-
Anybody remember the live game, I think it was 0-0 vs. Man Utd in 1988-89 when McInally hit the bar, anyway Chris Price took a shot/volley full in the face and went down like a bag of spuds. Spinky grabbed him and rolled him into the recovery position, ouchy!?
-
Here's to a speedy recovery Chris.
-
Good luck Chris. Get well soon ............

That's exactly what I think of every time I see his name. One of the greatest away games ever for me. Get well soon Chris.

I know it's OT but I remember that game, McInally's shot was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Jim Leighton IIRC. Wasn't it near the end, ie last minute?
-
I'm shocked that Chris decided to settle in Australia rather than the delightful, picturesque location that is Cinderford.

This story has just made Central news!

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but does anyone remember which game it was when he got hacked down for a penalty and was clearly pictured sat on the ground by the cameras making a "w****r" hand gesture? I'm 99% sure it was Chris Price.
-
He was on the front of my very first programme and since then has been my favorite ever player.

I remember it clearly, but not clearly enough to confirm it was at Arsenal, but that's my suspicion.
-
I loved Chrissy Price's reaction to his first goal for Villa the clock end, he went crazy and it was a huge result for us in the context of trying to win the league. He had come close to scoring a few times for us (I seem to remember a near miss vs. Luton at home a few weeks before in front of the Holte), what a great night that was and the game was live on ITV.
-
In view of the lungs full of water he's just taken I feel pretty sick at having chanted "He's got no air but we don't care" for all those years.
I do care Chris.
Hope you're soon back to full health.
And I hope your daughter is ok, it must have been a horrific experience for her.
