-
De La Cruz?
No, surely not.
Nah. Pretty sure it's this one: Vidal de la Cruz (http://www.facebook.com/people/Vidal-de-la-Cruz/1558639624)

I prefer this de la Cruz

-
now shed get it! if she would want it tho is debatable
-
Gardner has just scored and Weimann makes it 2.
-
Good to see Weimann back. I was in Vienna when he got injured and spat on by the Rapid fans as he left the pitch, I wasn't sure if he'd play again after that. Would be interested to know how he plays.
EDIT: Just seen that he's scored. Nice one.
-
I thought Cummings would get a crack in the reserves, he doesnt have to be a registered player to play in the reserves does he?
-
Gardner's goal was meant to be pretty special.
-
Nice one Villa, 2-0 up against the leaders of the reserves league, thanks for posting the updates.
-

Yes fucking please.
-
Are we not top then? I thought we owned 1st place in that league. :o
-
I think Gardner would have played a game or 2 if there would have been some reserve fixtures for him too play of Christmas!
-
Gardner set up the second goal as well. MOTM so far. 3 now Herd, Gardner involved again.
-
Excellent news, I seem to recall the OS saying the Arse were top of the reserves at the moment.
-
4-0 first half still in play
-
Hogg got the fourth from a Gardner corner.
-
5-0 Gardner pen.
-
Get in Gary.
But can't we make Carew and Ireland sing for their money?
-
We should pick the whole team for next first team match (and trash that small club)
-
Goals courtesy of DAN AVFC on OS.
1-0 Gardner capitalises in a poor clearance from Shea and slots across the keeper.
2-0 Lovely move. Delfouneso cuts in from the left, switches the play to Gardner who crosses for Weimann to tap home at the back post.
3-0 Gardner chips the free-kick in to the box, Baker heads it down and Chris Herd pokes the ball home.
4-0 Gardner corner headed down by Baker yet again and Hogg thumps home
5-0 Ozayakup handles Gardner's corner. Gardner from the spot - cool as you like.
-
This Gardner must have a crap game :)
-
Nice one Villa, 2-0 up against the leaders of the reserves league, thanks for posting the updates.
We are top according to the OS having played 2 more.
-
5-0 get in, hopefully young Gary will be in the first team before long doing this in front of bigger crowds!
-
We need too sort out this shit we are in so we can keep the likes of Gardner
-
GH and Gaz Mac are both there, GH was raving about Gardner at HT.
-
Are we not top then? I thought we owned 1st place in that league. :o

Win by 4 goals and we'll go top on GD.

6-0 Chris Herd heads home a corner from Forrester.
Lowry strikes an effort off the bar from the edge of the box.
-
We want 10!
-
The problem with this is that I would guess this is Arsenal's "third" team. Their players that are the equivalent of ours will be out on loan at Championship/Div 1 teams. I read that last year they had 17 players out on loan.
That way they find it easier to step up into the first team when required - they will have been involved in numerous games over the last month. How much competitive football have our lads played? Plus they are generally playing against younger players than themselves in this competition.
-
The OS (unsurprisingly) is out of date, they have Arsenal down a W5 D1 L1 when the PL site says W7 D1 L1.
It's W7 D1 L2 now anyway ;)
-
Great stuff Villa, keep it going.

Booooo
8-1 Goal to Arsenal. Deacon heads home a Thomas free-kick from the left.

-
10-1 Delfouneso runs nearly the full length of the field, rounds the goalkeeper and hits goalwards. His shot is only half cleared and Weimann puts in the rebound.
-
I'm expecting 11 now they've had the cheek to concede.
-
There's a fight now.

Couple of Arsenal match reports in
From Young Guns
Arsenal began 2011 with a crushing defeat at the hands of Aston Villa in the Premier Reserve League this evening. Five goals in each half added to an early red card for George Brislen-Hall saw the champions put themselves in the driving seat for a fourth successive title.
Neil Banfield was without a selection of his usual first choice options, including captain Ignasi Miquel, so rotated. Rookie centre back Elton Monteiro made his first start at this level alongside Danny Boateng, while Nico Yennaris was forced to fill in at full back.
Villa on the other hand boasted solid experience at this level, with American international Eric Lichaj starting alongside first team players Chris Herd, Isaiah Osbourne and Nathan Delfouneso. Manager Kevin MacDonald also fielded a number of players who are on the fringes of Gérard Houllier’s team.
ARSENAL: Shea; Eastmond, Boateng, Monteiro, Brislen-Hall; Ozyakup, Yennaris, Henderson; Aneke, Sunu, Emmanuel-Thomas.
Subs: Martinez (GK), Angha, Rees, Deacon, Freeman.
Arsenal went straight for their hosts right from the offset. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas surged onto the ball and, after cutting inside, he flashed a warning shot just wide of Parish’s goal. It would prove to be the only real chance of the first half for the boys in yellow.
Aston Villa then found their feet and grabbed a stunning opener from nowhere. James Shea’s hacked clearance went straight to Gary Gardner, and from all of 40 yards, he smashed the ball into the empty net. 1-0.
It shelled shocked the Gunners, but they reacted in the worst possible way. George Brislen-Hall went in hard on Jonathan Hogg in the middle of the park. A coming together from both sets of players ensued, and Brislen-Hall was dismissed with little complaints. It was massive challenge for Banfield boys from here on.
Villa pressed on and were soon out of sight. Weimann side footed home from close range for 2-0, then Gardner’s free kick was headed in by Chris Herd for 3-0, and before Arsenal could even react, Hogg cracked home a fourth in epic fashion. 4-0 and Arsenal were heading for a mauling.
Just before half time, things went from bad to worse. Özyakup handled Gardner’s corner for a penalty, and Gardner stepped up and stroke the ball home. 5-0 at half time.
Banfield switched the team at the break, bringing on Josh Rees and Freeman, and it appeared to work. Arsenal improved and showed good defensive quality but eventually Villa got their sixth. Herd turned in Harry Forrester’s ball and then Weimann took the ball off the awful Monteiro and picked out Delfouneso for 7-0.
The same man made it 8-0 shortly after, turning in Berry’s cross. Roarie Deacon pulled one back with a header from an Emmanuel-Thomas free-kick, but it made little difference.
Chris Herd wrapped up his hat-trick by bagging the ninth, then Delfouneso joined Herd on a hat-trick with a quality finish for number 10.
There was just time for a nasty looking brawl on the far side of the pitch before the game came to a close, but nobody was booked. A crushing night for Arsenal, which leaves Neil Banfield with work to do with his latest crop.
From Jeorge Bird's Arsenal youth
Arsenal Reserves suffered perhaps their most harrowing defeat in history this evening, going down 10-1 away to their Aston Villa counterparts. Neil Banfield’s side had entered the fixture top of the Southern Section and possessing genuine title-winning aims. Such a prosperous outlook now appears unlikely after this result, with the early sending off of George Brislen-Hall a key reason as to Banfield’s side’s decline.
Shea
Boateng-Yennaris-Monteiro-Brislen Hall
Eastmond-Henderson
Ozyakup-Aneke-Sunu
Emmanuel Thomas
subs: Martinez, Angha, Rees, Freeman, Deacon
Arsenal signalled their intent early on, with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas exchanging passes with Chuks Aneke before firing a drilled effort straight at Elliott Parish from distance. Villa, however, responded almost immediately, with Andreas Weimann striking the post of James Shea’s goal.
A slight lull then occurred before two moments which threatened to shape the outcome of the game took place within seconds of eachother. First James Shea mis-judged a pass and Gary Gardner capitalised, beating the stranded goalkeeper from 35 yards. Then, just moments later, George Brislen-Hall, making just his second start at this level, was shown a straight red card for a vicious challenge on Jonathan Hogg.
At that point it was felt that Brislen-Hall’s recklnessness could cost Arsenal the game. Any such fears were compounded when Villa lashed home a quickfire second. Gardner was involved again, receiving a pass from Nathan Delfouneso before teeing up Weimann to finish past Shea and double the home side’s lead.
As well as the deficit in terms of goals, Arsenal’s lack of numbers had to be compensated for by Conor Henderson switching to left-back, thus culling his attacking passing instincts. The Gunners subsequently struggled to gain a foothold in the game, although they did come close to creating a chance following a neat interchange between Emmanuel-Thomas and captain for the day Gilles Sunu. Villa, though, were always a threat, with Delfouneso immediately coming close at the other end with a powerful effort.
From then on, Arsenal’s misery was compounded as Villa added two more goals in quick succession. First, debutant Swiss centre-back Elton Monteiro was booked for a foul on Isaiah Osbourne and, from Gardner’s resultant free-kick, Nathan Baker nodded the ball down for Chris Herd, who has enjoyed some first-team game time this campaign, to tuck home. The fourth followed shortly afterwards, with the same combination of a Gardner ball in and a Baker header this time allowing Hogg to convert.
It was five before the break when Oguzhan Ozyakup handled Gardner’s corner in the penalty area and it was somewhat fitting therefore that the latter, who had been prominent throughout the first period, stepped up to beat the hapless Shea from twelve yards.
Arsenal attempted to salvage some pride in the second period, with Neil Banfield introducing Josh Rees and Luke Freeman for Ozyakup and Henderson, before bringing on Roarie Deacon in place of Chuks Aneke. Chances, though, remained hard to come by, with Emmanuel-Thomas hitting a free-kick over from distance in frustration.
That, however, proved only to be a brief respite, as Villa soon regained their imperious first-half form. The dangerous Steiber had a shot cleared off the line before Herd found the net again with a header from Harry Forrester’s corner. As if that wasn’t enough, Shane Lowry then rattled the Arsenal crossbar before a rare Gunners break culminated in Deacon shooting straight at Parish.
It wasn’t long, though, until Villa go their seventh, with Weimann crossing on this occasion for Delfouneso to tuck home. The latter then made it eight with another calm finish after being played through by substitute Durrell Berry. Deacon grabbed the merest of consolations for Arsenal when he headed home Emmanuel-Thomas’ free-kick but Herd and Delfouneso struck again late on to add an even more emphatic nature to the scoreline.
-
Very sporting of the lads to let Arsenal score 1
Well done lads

Cracking stuff.

Let's not get over-excited. After all, we did have "first team players Chris Herd and Isaiah Osbourne" in the side.
-
"American international Eric Lichaj starting alongside first team players Chris Herd, Isaiah Osbourne and Nathan Delfouneso"
LOL.
And I thought Pravda was bad.
-
Craig Eastmond has started a Champions League game.

No reports yet on the OS and two coming in from the Arse, so thanks for putting the updates on here tonight ;)

Well, I'm pleased regardless.

I haven't bought it, they do a free text service. It's commentary that costs money.

moaning Brummies. There's no report on the Arsenal website either, and knowing Wenger he'll try and make out that it didn't happen. He certainly won't have seen it.
-
Excellent news - Gary Gardner back too , let the good times roll!
-
My son has been on several Arsenal Soccer Schools in the Bournemouth area and as a result I get regular e-mails sent by them about up coming courses. As chance would have it, one just turned up in my inbox with the header - ' Learn to play Football the Arsenal Way'. I have just replied with a link to the match report, suggesting that maybe they should consider changing the name! On a more serious note, it is disturbing to find Arsenal running soccer schools in this area and pushing out the more local schemes run by Bournemouth, Yeovil and even Southampton.
-
Wow, if we can just hold it together to bring these guys through
-
Well, I'm pleased regardless.
Me too.
-
Absolutely outstanding. And without one of our best young players, Samir Carruthers too.
Gardner is metronomically superb to be honest. It comes as little suprise that he's bossed the game. He usually does.
But the score is... something else.
Gardner and Weimann will be in the first team soon and Fonz deserves more time on the pitch. More starts even.
-
Weimann and Delfouneso want to play,Carew doesn't,they should get game time.
-
Would of been nice to play UB40 at full time. "i am a one in ten" Go Villa ...........
-
That result will make some old fart happy after seeing Villa losing 7-1 to Ted Drake who score seven.
Drake scored seven in a single match against Aston Villa at Villa Park on 14 December 1935, a club record that also still stands.
-
Fantastic, well played the babbies !
-
Just read the match report, I didn't realised they had a man sent off. That's sort of took the gloss off it for me, but still an unbeleivable score line.
-
Would of been nice to play UB40 at full time. "i am a one in ten" Go Villa ...........
or "Red Red Whine"
-
cracking game .. what value for money , £5 for two of us... last time I was down there I spent so much time on MOTD it was embarrasing when Hinckley played Brentford in a dire 0-0 in fA Cup ... but this made up for it ;-D
-
The score even made the news on TS!
-
Just been mentioned by the Moose on talksport!
-
Good old Kevin Mac
Rather have him in charge of the club than that twat houllier
-
Well done the Villa kids.

Maybe this fella could get in queue once the current lads get promotion?
Many a good goal scorer has come from that neck of the woods.
No mention of his performance otherwise I am afraid.

Lot of praise for Gardner and fully deserved just back from nasty injury. Weimann also seemed sharp after his lay off.
Stand out for me though was Hogg in CM. Nasty tackle on him for the sending off but he didn't do a Downing then he got up a continued to run the show with a cracking finish to boot.
I know it is a big step up and he hasn't always looked the part but last night he stood out and I think he will have a future.
Also worth a mention was Herd and Fonz who I think will both have a part to play over the next couple of seasons.
-
great stuff!
great to see gardner have a hand in loads of the goals on his first start back...
-
I'd really like to see the Fonz getting on the score sheet for the team. He has plenty of ability, far more than Gabby. He just needs something to click.
-

I wonder if it's an attitude problem? Wasn't that being hinted at earlier in the season by KMac if I'm not mistaken?
-
Well done lads I am pleased to have won 10-1 margin but also the comebacks of Gardner and Weimann can't wait untill thay are in the first team the future looks bright if we can just get through this mess we are in then we have something to look forward too.
-

I've never seen anything but a willingness to play from him and besides, K Mac keeps playing him. And he keeps scoring.
-
there was talk of a confidence issue at the start of the season from macdonald...
but i have heard that he has a little touch of the "i have made it" to him...
the club hope that is an age thing and as he matures a little, that will improve...
we have to remember, he is still only 19 years old...
-
Yes that is why they prefered Weiman early season until that injury at Rapid Vienna, I also note that Osbourne got a game last night but nothing for Salifou or Davies. Has Salifou's head gone after that shooting incident?
-

Arsenal suffer 'major embarrassment' as reserves lose 10-1 to Aston Villa
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger may pride himself on his ability to produce young talent at the club but last night the reserve side were utterly humiliated in a 10-1 defeat to their Aston Villa counterparts.
The Arsenal side included a number of highly-rated youngsters, including Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Craig Eastmond but they were no match for the Villa team.
Chris Herd scored a hat-trick, while Gary Gardner and Andreas Weimann both scored twice in their comebacks from long-term injury lay-offs.
Nathan Delfouneso bagged two goals in the game at Hinckley United's De Montfort Park ground as well, with Jonathan Hogg also getting himself on the score sheet.
Arsenal may point to the fact they went down to ten men when George Brislen-Hall was set off for a foul on Hogg, but Villa fans are sure to highlight the fact the Gunners were already 1-0 down at that stage.
The result lifted Villa to the top of the table, two points clear of Arsenal.
Speaking after the game, Arsenal reserve coach Neil Banfield described the result as a ‘major embarrassment’.
‘I don’t know where to start. It’s 10-1, what can you say? It’s a major embarrassment but we’ve got to get up and get on with it. No-one likes to get beaten 10-1. There’s not really much you can say, I think 10-1 says it all,’ he said.
‘It’s just an extremely bad day but it’s football and we will pick ourselves up. No team at Arsenal should get beaten 10-1. We’ve all got to take the blame, me as well, the staff and the team and we get on with it.’

-

i always thought salifou was garbage.. even at reserve level, he made osbourne look like vieira in his glory days...

Strange how this keeps getting mentioned. I read an article over the summer from the England set up praising his attitude, saying how keen he was to learn.
-
How long before we start with Wiemann and Fonz up front for the 1st team and GG in the CM role
-

I cant figure out why either of them are at the club at all. It is obvious Osbourne wont make the grade and Salifou is the footballing equivalent of a toy from inside a Christmas cracker. It is just a complete waste of money.
Good result from the lads though.
-
[It is obvious Osbourne wont make the grade...
Osbourne was a little bit lost first half with Hogg on and dominating the play. He played alot better second half when I suppose he was the experienced player.
He actually looked quite decent but if he struggles for confidence playing along side Hogg its not too difficult to see why he is so far from the 1st team.
I would not be too suprised to see Hogg start against Blues, Houllier must have been impressed and thats possibly why he didn't show for the second half.
-
if osbourne had a different head, then he could make it...
his physique is perfect for his position, and he is quick, etc...
but as he is bubba gump shrimp boy both in terms of whats up top, and aesthetics, he is pretty pointless..
shame really...
-

I suppose if we could just rip up their contracts then we would.
-
It makes me wonder that when we were throwing untried kids into the CM roles that Salifou and Osbourne never got a look in - i think Osbourne made the bench once?
Sure i saw recently that Osbourne had been given a new contract when MON was here - no wonder the board are pulling their hair out over what we are paying players not to play
As for the reserves - superb to beat anyone by that score - even with 10 men. Bet if the score had been the other way round they would have interupted SSN to report how great the Arse kids were >:(
-
Talksport have mentioned the 10-1 quite a bit today, seems 1 or 2 are now starting to recognise what great kids we have in the pipeline and a 1st class set up under KMac / TMc
-
We want 10!
Hope you placed an inplay bet Legion :->

Thanks for the Woodwank warning. Cnut.
-
The result even made the main sports page of the Sun website, how refreshing!
-
Rumours on WM that a Villa player could have made the Walsall starting line up tonight had a deal been done in time - a midfielder who's been on the fringes of the first team for some time - got to be Osbourne.
-
Gardner gonna be a massive player for Villa ........
-
No doubt about it.
-
if we have Gardener and Bannan coming through why do we still seem to be obsessed with buying midfield players?
-
Gardner will need to some time to learn his trade in the top flight. As Delph and Bannan will who could also form a formidable young midfield with him at some point. Maybe Hogg too.
In the meantime we could do with a couple of bodies in.

I get what you are saying Hogg Bannan Deilph Petrov NRC Gardener thats 6 players to fill 2 positions and we are looking to add to that, and still short of strikers and cover at left back
-
Yes, we need those positions sorted for sure.
-
It's the difficult balance between the "now" and benefitting from the product of our youth system. We need some midfield operators now; we need to create an environment in which the younger players can flourish rather than flounder in the first team ... but you know all of this.
-
if we have Gardener and Bannan coming through why do we still seem to be obsessed with buying midfield players?
I agree wholeheartedly. One defensive one would do.

I think it would mean that the new ones are ready for the Premiership now whereas the young ones we have can be loaned out for a season or so and let them build up their confidence etc before appearing for us.
(A bit like Walker really)

A couple of moments made me chuckle the other night at Hinckley -
The guy announcing the goals played music each time and on a couple
of occasions wasn't sure of the scorer, but Chris Herd obliged by pointing
to the number on the back of his shirt -
When Arsenal managed to pull a goal back, KMac went ballistic at the
defence for sloppy marking.............I think we were 8-0 up at the time lol-
Overall considering the appalling weather and heavy pitch our lads played
some sublime football and Arsenal ........well they threw the towel in after
possibly the third goal went in -
Great to see Gary Gardner and Andreas Weimann back in action .........

Thanks VILLALWAYS :D

Thanks for posting that, lots of great goals on there, all of the players did well and the gooners looked like a pub team at the back.

Highlights here. Great win, but does make you realise how weak the standard in the reserve league is. Surely the likes of Weimann, Gardner etc would be better off at championship sides?
