2-3 Away win.

0-2 down at half-time. Then...

Albrighton 56
Downing 78
Pires 90

Nurse!

1-2 Away win.

Houllier opens his eyes, watches a video of tonight's shambles and it dawns on him that playing two of your potentially most effective players in each other's positions is not the way to win games.

I'm almost at the point of not caring.  We need to "concentrate on the league".

A defeat if Houllier is still in the job.

Draw or a win possible if he has been given the bullet.

Micky Adams will have his boyhood team well up for this one. Our lack of fight and aimlessness at the moment means I wouldn't bat an eyelid if we lost. Actually, I'm envisaging something akin to our last FA Cup disaster up there under Doolally.

Let's go and smash these. I'd 'rest' Dunne, NRC & Petrov.

I take it Heskey is suspended now for 3 games?

We need to win this before the SHA game.

Friedel
Lichaj Cuellar Collins Clark
Albrighton Hogg Bannan Downing
Young
Agbonlahor

I think we will lose this one. It is set up perfectly for one of those magic-of-the-fa-cup-giant-killings-games.

I do hope we win it. I dont buy into all this need to focus on the league. At the moment we are so low on confidence and form that we need as many games as we can get to play our way out of it.

Lose this and then again against Blues and surely that will be the end of GH.

I will be singing loud and proud for 90 minuts, but if anyone starts singing Houllier's name if we're winning they're a fool. It was the same at Chelsea, slagging him off then singing Houllier's claret and blue army at 3-3, fuck that. Sing for the club and the players who give a shit, not overrated jumped up pricks like Ashley Young and not the clueless manager.

Got to go for a win with our strongest team. We need to get into a winning mentality with our 'usual' team and if we fuck this up against a poor Sheff Utd team we'll be spiralling even more out of control.

I'd go with:
Friedel;
Walker, Cuellar, Clark, Warnock (yeah, I know...);
Ash, NRC, Stan, Delph (if fit, Bannan if not), Downing;
Gabby

If nothing else it's a cheap day out - £12 for a ticket (did Villa subsidise the prices?)

Cup shock - Sheffield United to lose at home against Aston Villa

Can't wait to see the team selection - Carew & Ireland maybe to
be our Cup Heroes ?

Tricky tie even if we were doing ok at present - Blades have new
manager in Micky Adams and ARE scoring goals in most matches -

Ex Villan Jamie Ward to score odds on but surely we will be in the hat
for FA4 won't we ??

Doesn't bear thinking about if we fall at the first hurdle - could be messy

A dull 0-0 draw with Houllier trying to convince us that despite creating a single chance in 90 minutes the fact that we have kept a clean sheet means we have turned the corner again and can now kick on for a Europa Cup place and in all likelihood win the FA Cup

Oh and of course we will lose the replay 0-1

This could be a toughie. They are having a shit season, but Mickey Adams has gone there and in his first game, they came back from 2-0 down at home to draw.

This is FA Cup where for about 100 year we held the record for most wins.

You can add Petrov to that group of people then because he's said he doesn't care about the cup.

Lawro :

I think Gerard Houllier is doing OK as Aston Villa manager. The thing is, their budget has been slashed and, with that happening, I do not think owner Randy Lerner can turn around and demand that they are in the top six in the Premier League.

It is going to take Houllier a bit of time to get things right and he is starting to do that, probably because he is beginning to get senior players fit and back again and creating a bit of competition for places. They will be absolutely fine in the Premier League.

Sheffield United, under new boss Micky Adams, had a really good comeback on Monday, coming back from two goals down with only a few minutes left to draw with Doncaster.

The Blades are a very much 'up and at em' side and it might take another game to separate the two sides.

Prediction: 1-1

Nice to see everyone welcoming Kyle with open arms. Feel rather sorry for Lichaj as he had two excellent games and one where he concedes a penalty - and not a clear cut one at that -  in a game where the other three goals we conceded came from the other side of the pitch, gets a slagging from the manager ands is instantly forgotten. If we win with a decent performance we go into the SHA game with a renewed sense of optimism, in the next round of the Cup (and with a bit of luck a decent draw). Hopefully 3/4 more will come in and all of a sudden we're dreaming of Wembley and a top half finish again.

Over 5,000 of us probably making up over 30% of the total attendance means it will be similar to the semi final 1st leg at Blackburn last season.

To those who say its not so important, well whatever the media or anybody tells us some of us still think the FA Cup is fantastic. Raise the roof, get behind the team, maybe maybe this could be our year.

For the first time in years I greet 3rd Round day with apathy. Partly our situation and also the continual pissing about with the FA Cup.

Just remember if we do make the final, and it isn't against one of the top four in the Premier League it will become a sideshow due to the presence of league games on the same day. Why? so that Wembley can host the Champions League final. A competition that has overshadowed the FA Cup for the biggest clubs in the land and goes against the very principles of the worlds oldest cup competition. A cash cow to cement the place of the rich at the top table at the expense of competiton, wieghted against those who don't draw the biggest viewing figures or can't attract maximum revenue from the sponsors.

The future of the Cup is bleak, expect no replays and eventual seeding to ensure maximum money and minimum sport.

Pires confirms rifts & Houllier reveals Randy will not pay for Makoun just like Fofana,

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/aston-villa/8246909/Robert-Pires-reveals-strains-between-Gerard-Houllier-and-Aston-Villa-players.html

I'm sorry but what the feck is Pires playing at talking to the press about player disharmony, he's only been here five minutes, is he rallying for his mate Houllier through the press, is he Patrick Berger is disguise.

Is there ANY flippin discipline at our Club right now.  We really are a complete fecking shambles.

I hope we should be good enough to atleast get these back to VP for a replay - not sure we'd win it though mind.

I had no idea about that - what an absolute disgrace.

Hoping we can win today, 3-1 villa. I wouldn't like a replay at villa park given our home form.

Well petrov has already gone on record saying he doesn't care about the fa cup, doesn't bode well 1-3 defeat

Petrov said that.  Paul H McGrath, they really don't have the first idea what makes us tick do they.

Sadly not, there's something seriously wrong down B6

2-2 draw.  Neither side can keep clean a sheet, we are not playing well enough to win and neither are they, seems a certain replay to me.

Not expecting big things from today. One of these teams will be up for it, the other don't seem to care.
The way things are at the moment a win would be a waste of everyone's time.

It appears that ours is the main game on the internet today.  Looking at the 3pm kick off's though it stands to reason.  There are over 30 links available for this one.  Quality!

3-1 loss today - the Captain doesn't care about what is a major cup competition for the teams not in the Champions League.

This is desperate the whole club is an utter shambles at the moment and needs sorting out from top to bottom. I'm not exactly optimistic about this game.

This has absolutley amazed me, it really has.

So what are his ambitions for his team this season if he's more than happy to write of so flippently our last chance of silverware - and the flippin FA Cup at that - so it's just survival I suppose.  No wonder we are in such a state!

I've no doubt he'd soon complain if his wages were reduced to coincide with his reduced focus on this weeks game.  What a twat.

I wouldn't be too surprised, these overpaid twats are totally detached from the fans thoughts!

We'll score first, from a set piece early in the second half.

They'll equalise 15 minutes from the end, and we'll nervously hang on to get a replay.

Houlliers eyes will bulge unhealthily and Gary MacAllister will continue to look like a melted snowman.

That was fairly worrying wasn't it. Do we know for sure Houllier was scouting at Wednesday the other night or is there a genuine chance he attended the wrong game? Because if there is then that really is a 'WTF?' moment. Surely someone at VP would have been able to point out the error before he arrived?

Anyway, last night I dreamt that we won 4-1. But I also dreamt Barnet would win 1-0 and that's not going to happen...

I cannot in all honesty believe he could.  He's not a complete idiot so let's atleast cut him some slack on this one.

Teeny weeny bit scary though.
