Title: Chelsea v Aston Villa Pre-Match Thread
Post by: Legion on December 29, 2010, 11:04:39 AM
Quote
0-2 Away win

Random player name; random number 1-45
Random player name; random number 46-90

Like bollocks.

Them: a lot (I'll go for 4 or 5)
Us: a big fat zero

Nothing like being positive, is there?

Chelsea 4-0 Villa.

Lampard, x2 Anelka, Malouda.

We're both due a win, but I can't see us winning there.

When I caught the BBC news report on the Arsenal-Chelsea match and watched Terry and Lampard troop off at the end with faces like thunder, my immediate thought was, shit,  we're going to get the backlash.

If anything, since yesterday I'm now even more pessimistic.

We won't score, so it will finish large score to nil.  Whether its 3, 4, 5 or another 7 depends on when they decide to declare.  Let's face it, that's what Citeh did yesterday, because at half time I reckoned we were facing a result that would have made Newcastle look like a narrow defeat.

When you are in  really poor run of form and you can't get a win to save you life what you really need is to play someone who is easy pickings.
Chelsea, I'm afraid have struck lucky.
5-0 home win

A  6-1 drubbing.

Unless we play to the best of our ability, in which case, we'd lose only 3-0.

I'll go with the former.

We are utterly shit.

Strangely enough I'm really looking forward to going to this game. Yes we will suffer a dreadful mauling but I just get the impression that this might have a positive, cathartic impact one way or another. Always good to say that you were there when key moments in Villa's history happen. Or am I just sick in the head?

We need to just get this game out of the way & hope that we don't have a repeat of last season's result. Anything would be a bonus.

It's time to take all of the kids out of the team, including Allbrighton, for the next few games we need experience.

The season starts again against Sunderland.

Bit defeatist but I've already written this game off, and to be honest all I'm hoping is that we don't get another tonking.  I'm more concerned with getting our season back on track, kick-starting with the Sunderland and Sheffield games

My one bit of hope is that other than the 7-1 tonking last season, we've got a pretty good record against Chelsea, we do normally seem to do well against them. I hope the players bear that in mind and have a go because like us, they're not playing with a great deal of confidence either.

Seriously, what happens if we play like we did at Man City/ Liverpool?

The performance at Man City should be the bottom of the barrel, the complete lack of everything was astonishing.
If Geddy can't get them to bounce back (Give it a f**king good go and show some pride, even in a loss) then I think we're up a creek.

It doesn't matter about the result he needs to show that he can get a reaction from these players, the majority of these gobshites will be playing for the rest of the season. We need a glimmer of hope.

I think we'll come out fighting for this one.. I'm not sure what evidence I have to base this assesment on, but I think we will. Anyway, defeat is still inevitable, but I think it'll be a narrow defeat. 2-0, both goals coming in the last ten minutes with the likes of Collins, Cuellar and Warnock producing the form we know they are capable of.

Oddly enough I think we have a better cance of getting something if Chelsea win this evening. Not that we will get anything, Lampard will score his customary goal against us, probably from us not dealing properly with a long punt to Drogba (my betting is for Collins to make the mistake, probably letting it bounce instead of just clearing it). That will happen around the 30th minute, us having missed two half chances beforehand. Instead of then pressing for an equaliser, we will be unable to get the ball at all and  wind up losing 3-0, the scoreline kept down by some Brad saves.

I keep going for Villa defeats. I do this for reasons of good luck. It's stopped working but I did predict a 4-0 defeat last game out and was right.

3-0 Villa (lets not be too greedy) Albrighton, Downing and a Terry O.G.

To be honest anything we will get will be a bonus ahead of a key transfer window and very important games against Sunderland, Blues and Wigan that will tell us everything we need to know.

Is Heskey going to be fit for this one?

Defeat, pick a score, any score - I guess it depends on which Chelsea team turn up and whether they are in the mood.

I think it's all my fault. After the West Ham game I signed up for the PL channel on cable. I watch and record every game. I've yet to have a game worth watching again. I may just cancel my subscription as I've obviously put an hex on us. Either that or people on here posting too early on the Match Thread. The first post should always be the team list. Thinking about how poor we are at the back, surely giving Davies a run at the end of his loan spell alongside Cuellar is the obvious thing to try.

For Chelsea I would give last seasons unit the game, recall Dunne - he has a point to prove, put Cuellar right back. I originally thought Clark, but Drogba will murder him. So give Dunne the olive branch, if we could get him back to his best he will help us no end.

Okay folks, I've literally only just realised, that theoretically we could go bottom of the table at the weekend! Jesus Christ! And people still want to give Houllier time! The guy is clueless, and couldn't manage a Boy scouts under 11 reserve team right now, let alone a premiership footballing side.

We're gonna get turned over by Chelsea, and I only fancy a point against Sunderland. Sunderland go either way. They look decent, or they look like a shower of shite. I'm feeling they may be due a good display against us.

Stick the 7-1 with Terrys after match comments on the dressing room wall and give em hell. If I have to see that shit lampard 2 fingered point to the heavens once more as he scores for the 50th consecutive match against Villa think I'll explode.

What a fucking shambles. I in no way condone this behaviour from the players, there is no room for insubordination, but something is seriously wrong here, it's not just one or two players who seem unhappy with GH/GM, it appears to be all of them

He did say "I suspect" which implies that he was not certain but speculating.

I have to say that I also "suspect" that none of the players are happy under Houllier. Call them selfish, overpaid, unprofessional brats all you want, but if you have no belief in a manager, no matter how much you want to succeed, it is pretty much the equivalent of pissing in the wind.

11-1, worth a crazy tenner surely.

We should play all the fit "for sale" players and tell them to go and put themselves in the shop window.

If we're gonna get hammered (and I think we will), rest all the kids, make Downing captain and play 4-5-1 with Carew up front (if fit?)

Sorry to all you guys going, sounds like Moscow all over again but why not try something different??

I can't bear to watch this and will instead be having Sunday lunch. I'm going to gety girlfriend to confiscate my phone so I don't keep on checking the scores.

This is a dangerous tactic. Somebody will inevitably tell you the score and you will throw the jam roly-poly through the window

Or your ex-bird will phone you and the Villa
and the jam roly-poly will be the least of your worries.

Doing exactly the same, going Sutton park with no phone and watching it when I get back. So if you see a happy villa fan at about 3:20 this afternoon you'll know it's me.

The last time I did this was Tuesday, didn't find out the score until I watched on football first.

I just can't see us getting a result. Though, with everyone now fit we should at least avoid a thumping. 2-0.

Prove us wrong lads!

If we sit back, we could easily get hammered, but then again, we dont know how else to play other than on the break

Expecting us to get hammered, I hope I'm wrong.

I think we will win, we are due one and they aren't anywhere near as good as last year. I'm also hoping that my first prediction in this thread will bring me luck.

2 nil villa, with Ireland getting one.

I think their first goal will be banged in after a mere 2 minutes.

I just had the thought that 'a low-scoring defeat this afternoon wouldn't be too bad'.

God, that's depressing.

A defeat today will leave us with the worst goal difference in the league. I've supported Houllier up until a few days ago but having read a few statistics i'm very worried, as these would seem to show there are fundamental problems, especially in defence, which was one of the best in the league last year.

Second highest number of goals conceeded in the premiership
Joint least amount of points gained in away games in the premiership
Fourth least amount of goals scored in the premiership
Least amount of away goals scored in the whole league

Houllier has got to get at the very least 5 points from the next 3 games or he should be sacked. 0-0 would be a good result today, we need to keep a tight defensive ship though i doubt we can do it. Our defensive coaching is obviously useless and 3 or 4 games ago Houllier said that we needed to stop conceeding goals, and we've conceeded 10 in the last 4.

At the very least the players should have some sort of professional pride and they need to do a lot better.

It'll be like watching Casualty. You know its going to be unpleasant viewing sooner or later.

I think their first goal will be banged in after a mere 2 minutes.

I think that might be the problem if that happens. An early goal like against Man City and the heads might drop. We've got an decent record against Chelsea though, which is making me a bit more optimistic than i probably should be.

If we lose, we lose. Fair enough, as long as I see a bit of fight and pride in the shirt.

There's something quite masochistic about watching Villa these days ...

Anyone else watch via Villastreams? the website appears down which could scupper my viewing.

I'm wondering whether this could actually be a good thing...

We'll lose, but it's the manner in which we lose today that'll be most important. If we battle and give our all, then we can't really complain. If we roll over again, then it'll be another stick to beat Houllier with. I genuinely hope we're not beating on Houllier come three o'clock.
