That was a nonsensical decision.

He's done well for them as Caroll excepted their team is junk and has got them in a solid position in the Premiership.

Considering how well West Brom have done this season losing at Smethick was no disgrace and certainly doesn't overweigh some of the creditable results they have earned this season.

Truly a circus.

Apparently the team they played against West Brom cost them £19million and the more expensive players in it (Guttierez and Enrique were signed by previous managers). Even expensive players who were out were not signed by Hughton.

The man had done an excellent job. He just didn't deserve to be sacked.

Will MoN's Sunderland support stop him from taking it? Other than that I can clearly see him going there.

Great. Can't wait to watch MOTD on Saturday for Shearer's exclusive 'verdict' on it all.... sorry Alan, did you actually speak this time?

Daft decision. But then, this is why Newcastle are Newcastle. Slowly and solidly rebuilding themselves, and then they get ideas above their station.
Title: Re: 0% Villa: Hughton sacked
Post by: supertom on December 06, 2010, 02:41:13 PM
Insane. This isn't a Newcastle loaded with star players like a few years back. They're doing solidly in the Prem this year, better than expected. Hughton hasn't been given a lot to spend from the rise to the Prem.

Craziness. He steadied an absolute mess of a ship and bought them up, and has them reasonably comfortable in the Prem. They'd have stayed up IMO, had they kept him on. Now? Who knows. If the get the wrong man in, or the players lose faith and let the higher power antics get to them, then there's trouble.

But do I really care? No. Hughton seems a decent bloke though, so I wish him luck.

Very sad. Hughton mustn't be the ''big personality'' the powers at be feel they need up there. Can't think of any other reason they'd sack him - his record since taking over has been excellent considering what went before him. They've obviously been waiting for an excuse to get rid him for since the start of the season. Being nice gets you nowhere in some places. Hope the ****** get relegated now.

I'd fully expect mon to take the job- I'm sure they will have appraoched who they want to take over before they sacked hughton- new manager expected to be appointed sooner rather than later- o neill will be a messiah there but it will all end in tears.

Mike Ashley is no randy lerner - but ashley and o neill deserve each other! Newcastle are run as a shambles and I'd love to see them go down under the blessed o neill!

Though you know how that works sometimes. MON wasn't going to get any more cash at Villa, but I bet GH gets a decent amount. Also remember a number of years back Lennie Lawrence at Boro getting nothing and then getting fired. In walks Robson and got a boatload of it. It depends if the Newcastle board have any ambition at all to hire someone with any kind of reputation. If they do, they're not going to get him without having something in the kitty.

I reckon they might approach Di Matteo or someone of that ilk.

Ashley is hated in the north east and getting o neill would court favour with the fans for a while- chris hughton has done a great job and deserves the utmost respect - I wish him well.

Now sky are saying pardew is the new favourite- if he goes there they are as good as down , similar to brian laws taking over at burnley- pardew must be one of the most uninspiring managers of them all - if he went there I'd expect Ashley never to show his face on tyneside again!

I'd still be surprised though if it's not o neill , but maybe someones tipped off the bookies about pardew!

Sky also saying a new manager expected to be appointed very very quickly, which suggests they have already made their move.

Couldn't make this up - the guy has done an amazing job with no money after inheriting a shower of shite - turned them round and started building nicely - making St James a very difficult place to go - as we found to our cost.

Ashley is a twat clearly - give my left tit for O'Neill to take it - i know where he can find some cut price crap all with premier league/SPL experience, could be the answer to RL's wage bill issue - think Heskey/Sidwell/Reo/Dunne/Cueller/Ireland would all look good in stripes - and Beye already has a bunch of songs waiting for his return.

Would "love it" if Mon took them over and took them back down "love it"

Ashley / O'Neill were made for each other - unfortunately can't see it happening, MON needs cash to waste and AShley doesn't have spit, guess he must have someone lined up - can't see Pardew getting a good welcome up there if it's him - but can't see anyone decent coming in with Ashley's rep and lack of backing - Dowie as football consultant again or the twat from Hull more likely Ha Ha - howay the lads :-)

Unbelievable.  Feel really sorry for Hughton - he's stepped into the breach a couple of times while they went through previous managers' departures before begrudgingly giving him a 'permanent' contract last year.  Obviously not a big enough 'name' for the arrogant Ashley

Can't see MON taking it - he demands total control of everything and can't see Ashley giving him that level of control, let alone any cash.  If it's Pardew - bye bye NUFC - enjoy the Championship again

I reckon he'd do ok there. At least well enough so they would be above us for a while and the media would love it, while persisting with their mental idea that Villa forced him out by refusing to give him any money to spend. I imagine it would implode eventually but it might not be much fun before it does.

I really hope O`Neill gets the job.
Lets face it, if he fell out with Randy Lerner within 4 years I would give it 6 months to all end in tears with Ashley.

Rumour (Can't say where from as it's inside VP) has it that MoN can't take another position before 1st Jan!

Can't imagine shearer going back there after they got rid of him without even telling him - mike Ashley has an ego that makes deadly doug look like father Christmas!

Strong speculation now building that it's pardew and that would be great- there would be ructions in the toon and he would take them down this season.

Ashley's a fat mess and that was a disgraceful sacking but Jol would be a good appointment.

if that happens, you have to ask how serious we pushed the boat out to some of these managerial candidates in August.

"It is believed Pardew became close friends with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley and director Derek Llambias when all three were familiar faces at an exclusive London casino where Llambias was managing director."

What a fantastic reason to make that appointment. There can be few bigger walking disasters than Ashley, even among football chairmen, and that really is saying something.

I really thought that this was all being set up for MON. When he left us I thought that he had something in the pipeline with Barcodes and Lplop being the obvious candidates. The Barcodes were perfect for him and he could have done what he does best - improve a mediocre team to 6th and then leave a big mess behind. As soon as I heard that Hughton had been sacked I was convinced MON would be unveiled by the weekend, but Pardew? Apart from Ashley and Pardew, I can't imagine anybody thinking that this appointment would have been sensible.
