Is that because we drew against our real rivals and managed to lose to them in the Cup-tie?

No, it's because football wasn't invented in 1992 and West Bromwich Albion have been our bitterest rivals for one hundred and twenty years....................next question please.

Saturday 3 o clock kick off, yet i bet the attendance will be lower than v Small Heath, showing imo that for the vast majority of Villa fans Blues is a bigger game.

It's as big as Blues for me, mainly because i'm surrounded by Albion fans, most of my mates are Albion fans and the stick i'd get would be unbearable, whereas i only know 2 Blues fans round here. On the whole though it's a bigger game for Albion fans than ours, you can tell by the feeling in the ground it's nowhere near the hatred shown against Blues but if you ask their fans their older fans hate Villa and the younger fans hate Wolves.

Albion fans are deluded aswell, they win a few games and think they're the biggest/best team in the midlands because they're above us for a few weeks. They're getting a bit too big for their boots thinking theyll beat us with ease, i hope we smash them and put them back in their place.

As for the attendance, theres loads of tickets left in our ends, not surprising when some cost £43 two weeks before christmas.

Much prefer the Baggies compared to Small Heath Alliance or the Dingles.

I've always thought Wolves fans were most like ours. They'll moan as soon as something is going wrong and they'll admit they're shit. You try telling an Albion fan they were shit in a particular game, they won't have it, they'll blame the ref and all sorts and like i said as soon as they start winning a few they're world beaters. If Wolves started winning a few they'd be like our fans and say it won't last and expect the worst.

From my experience Cov fans hate us more than Albion fans do, although I have always lived nearer Cov and bump into more of their fans, and I have seen more trouble at Villa Cov games over the last 10 - 15 years than at Villa Albion over the same time, not that these are the only indicators of what makes a derby bigger.  I have always felt the atmosphere amongst Villa fans for both Cov and West Brom is pretty flat and apathetic, especially at the games themselves, not the same for Blues though of course.  I'e always felt Blues is the biggy and the no. 2 derby (although historically West Brom) depends on where you'r from, you just don't get West Brom/Wolves fans in Warks, Cov etc and likewise Cov fans in the black country for example.  So for me Blues is the biggest, Cov 2nd and West Brom 3rd, for a Villa fan in Wolvo, Wolves is probably 2nd, Baggies 3rd or whatever.  Baggies means little to me as I've met so few of their fans over the years.  I would have thought for most Villa fans, no matter where they live, they dislike Blues most and see that as the big derby.

I agree about the atmosphere, the last few home atmospheres against Albion and Wolves have been shit and the ground has been silent. Coventry used to be the same aswell, half empty ground and no atmosphere, apart from the 3-2 when we sent them down. The last good atmosphere against Wolves was probably the coca cola cup in 96 and i can't remember the last good one against Albion as i can't remember the 98 FA Cup game very well. When we play Albion away from home our fans are generally up for it and usually take the piss, Coventry would be the same if we drew them in the cup, we'd take 6000 and take the piss.

I enjoy this derby more than the Blose one. More the fact that blose is just pure hatred and theres a bit more to this game. Cant see the atmosphere being a world beater though. Wasnt that good for blose really. The last time this game had a proper atmo was the last minute winner from Hitzlesperger. Remember the time we played em and the attendance was like 33k? That was in 2005 i think

Meh, don't really have any dislike to Olbion, maybe it was once our derby but sadly our derby is small heath now - atleast most of their fans seem like they can behave themselves unlike the small heath rabble. It's still a big game, we've got to win - no other result will do I'm afraid. It's quite sad to think that Olbion was just another easy win for us regulary, I genuinely think they could bea... not gonna say it lol.

I have a bad feeling too, but I guess tonight's performance could have a lot to do with that. Albion have the history that small heath don't, so I prefer them over the rags despite their eg breaking missions in the 70's but I appreciate that whenever we have needed the points in the last few seasons they have rolled over and given them to us!

Albion hardly registers as a derby for me. It may have been our original rivalry but that was decades ago and I don't know why we pretend otherwise. Born and bred in Brum so only one real passionate dislike for a team and that is of course our friendly neighbours from Small Heath. As somebody previously mentions, if you are from outside of Brum then the nearest local team will be the big one i.e. if you live in Blackcountry it will be Wolves/Albion. My wife's family are all Wolves season ticket holders and they call Villa fans in the Blckcountry 'glory hunters'. I wish.

Olbiyun is the proper derby for for me.
We`ve played them in FA Cup finals and been taking points from them since 1889.
How many letters did William McGregor write to Small Heath about setting up a system of fixtures played home and away ?
In overall historical terms the  Villas, Evertons, Olbiyuns etc are like a number of families who have all lived on the same street for many years, then some chavvy dysfunctional lot moved in relatively recently to the run down  house on the corner  (ie. small heath).

lol a really good mate of mine is an Albion supporter and he's really nice - can take the piss out of his own team, is a realist about what the Albion can do and doesn't got OTT about the fact they're above us in the league, it's just good humour banter. Small Heath on the otherhand... despite being used to losing to us all the time and always in our shadow they still get more bitter and twisted everyday.

Even though Villa vs albion is still a derby and I truly acknowledge that, it's not a nasty or violent derby... most of it is banter because we both have much more classy fans than small heath. I prefer it that way.

Albion fans > small heath fans

Bitter? What have I got to be bitter towards small heath? Your fantastic history, all your cups and trophies you've won, spending the majority of your time in the lower leagues? Yes, I'm so jealous of small heath.

I haven't forgot what happened, what happened is that your lowlife fans don't know how to celebrate and are more interested in taunting our fans rather than celebrating your win with joy and happiness - even your manager thinks you're small time. I'm not an angry chappie, just embarrassed that we have to share the city with you - I do wish West Brom were our proper rivals because atleast there fans have some class and don't take things so seriously.

We have dozens more songs/chants about the Blues than the Baggies also, so I think Blues is the bigger match.  I think as a spectacle Villa Albion is better, the two kits complement each other nicely and there are plenty of colours in the stands unlike at the nasty derbies like Villa Blues.

I wonder, should West Brom win, if their fans will invade the pitch and carry on like they've just been crowned World Champions and toss chairs, coins and phlegm. Or will they simply realise that they're having a storming season (by their mediocre standards), whilst Villa are going through a nightmare period?

I still laugh at the noses doing what they did. Do that not realise that the rest of the country (and other parts of the planet) look on in amazement at how small-time they are?

Obviously it aint a "Birmingham" derby, in the truest sense, but it's a local derby ( Hawthorns and St Andrews are pretty much the same distance from Villa Park) with a fantastic history. Villa and Albion were playing each other in FA cup finals before Blues ( or Man United, liverpool, Spurs etc  ) even existed.

As founder members of the Football League - the oldest league in the world - Villa v Albion is the oldest local derby in the country and by default must be the oldest local derby in the world. I really don't know why much more fuss isn't made of this. We've got the sort of history and tradition in this game that the Big 4 couldn't buy. Imagine if Liverpool v Everton had anything like the same origins as Villa v Albion - you'd be sick to death of the media wanking on about it.

Relatively recent rivalry with Blues can't change facts.

Obviously Blues is the bigger game now but Albion is by far the most traditional rivalry though.

Oh, and anyone who thinks that Albion fans are a bunch of fair-minded, sporting neighbours has obviously never been chased from the Hawthorns back to Smethwick Rolfe Street by them.....on several occasions
