Jonathan Hogg is set to become the latest Aston Villa youngster to pledge his future to the club, skysports.com understands.
The Middlesbrough-born 21-year-old has been handed the chance to push for a first-team place under Gerard Houllier and has grasped his opportunity with both hands.
Hogg started his first Premier League game earlier this season in Aston Villa's 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
Now following hot on the heels of fellow Villa youth graduates Gary Gardner, Barry Bannan, Marc Albrighton and Ciaran Clark, Hogg has signed a new deal.
Hogg, who battled with a cruciate knee ligament injury earlier in his career, has agreed a two-and-half year deal - keeping him at the club until 2013.

Good lad, now go and earn a better one.

theres been quite alot of negative stuff going round recently, some justified some not in my oppinion but it makes me feel happier knowing all these young lads who have been brought through at villa & know the club are keen to commit themselves to the club.
they obviously are quite happy in the way they belive the club is going.

Impressed me on Wednesday but I'm still not convinced.
We do seem to have created a few central midfield players in the youth teams though.
-
Anybody that takes Lee Bowyer out like he did on Wednesday deserves a new contract.
-
Hogg's damned by comparison - he's come into the team at the same time as Bannan and Albrighton who both seem destined to have excellent and influential careers. Placed into a team like Blackburn or West Ham Hogg would be being talked up as potential England material. At Villa he appears merely adequate. When Gardener comes through and Delph returns we may not see Hogg start a game for a long while.
But that's a big what if. For now, I'm glad he's signed a new deal and I'll credit the lad for a solid start to his first team career.

Well more good news another young player signed on - if only Ashley Young would complete the set !
-
Great news.
-
IS GHou making a point signing-up all the young lads? As in, we've not got much to spend, this is all I have to work with for the forseeable so I may as well tie them down. And if it all goes tits up I'll have covered my arse by promoting the youth policy...
..probably not but it's nice to hear gregnash's view again.

Great stuff, well done Hoggy now push on and make that spot your own!
-
Congratulations to Mr Hogg. Aaaaannnnd his grottyspawn.
-
the thing with Hogg is hes a slow starter
against Arsenal he started off looking out of his depth, against blues he started off looking poor as well
but as the game went on he looked very good, and was very involved in the game. Really took the game by the scruff of the neck for me against blues, fair play to him

Locking up our talented kids is critical to our long term aspirations. Bringing them through, shipping out some of the crap, and adding some top quality technically gifted players and a couple of midfield destroyers will be, in my opinon, the keys to us pushing on significantly.

Indeed. There was one corner where he quite blatantly and without a hint of fear pushed Lee Wankshaft Bowyer firmly in the chest and sent him a good three or four feet from where he started out. I like that sort of confidence.

Spot on. The classic, English "reducer".

He looks like he can handle himself as well as play a bit. I like him and think that he'll grow as a player rather than making a Bannan type instant impact. Every team needs a reducer, and when we have some more players available he may just do nicely in a deeper midfield role.

Off in the summer, or so the rumour goes.

Villa insider says young is off to arsenal or manure. he aint gonna stick around with that French idiot in charge. The bloke ain't got a clue!!
-
Is that Ashley Young wants to move to Arsenal or Man United or is it Ashley Young is moving to Arsenal or Man United?
If it's the first he might be in for a shock.
And as for the French idiot I'm willing to see where he will get us and to give him an actual chance before giving up the fight.

ah yes, wondered when you'd be back. You were quite vociferous in your criticism of Houllier when he was appointed and I bet you couldn't be more pleased right now. Even though you said you'd give him a chance based on his early press conferences. A couple of months in and we're not pulling up trees but no need to look at what he might be working on and working with. Must feel pretty good.
-
I am pleased he has signed a new contract another one of the academy belt to come good the futures bright.
-
Of all the kids we've been playing, he's the one I've been least convinced by. But I thought he did very well on Wednesday. But doesn't seem to have the class of Bannan, Albrighton, Delph or Clark. But I'd play him on Monday no question.
-
He has the face of a northern coal miner - makes sense, didn't realise he was from Middlesbrough.
Good on you Hogg, showing signs of growing confidence.
-
not a huge fan of hogg, i think he is very limited and dont think he has a long term future with us, but if it gets him pumped for the moment, then fair play...
he is another body for the moment, and boy do we need those...

You're not very bright, are you?
-
The bits I've seen of Hogg I think he's done OK.
Versus Rapid Vienna over there, Man U at home and B-lose away.
He's not flash, doesn't have the same tricks as Albrighton or Bannan but it's a team game and the things he does well, ie keeping the ball moving and getting a foot in can be equally as useful to any side.

Passes better than Reo-Coker and is far more visible and work-hungry than the ginger loafer. I can see Hogg developing into an Ian Taylor like player.
