Dunno if this has been posted already, but just saw it on the OS.
Signed till 2014, great news
-
Awesome news.
Clearly, giving him a contract that long is a clear indication that the folks at the club think highly of him and reckon he could be making a first team impact if he was fit.
-
But is he a nose........ducks for cover.
-
Being at Villa from the age of 6, why would he even think of blues, plus he aint ugly like Craig who fitted straight in the troll!
-
Good lad. Now, can he play at centre half?
-
Another good young player tied down long term - good stuff
-
You can't choose your family :)
-
I heard Inter and various other clubs were looking at him, so it's good we tied it up.
Seems like a good prospect, should be seeing him in our ridiculously young team soon I guess.
-

I've heard he's a Villa fan but bearing in mind his brother's Jackanory tales, who knows?
What he is though, is fucking ace. So much promise.

Villa player that’s all that matters
-
Over the moon now we've signed him up it look's good for our future.
-
Fantastic, I just watched his goals on the Villa website, he sure can take a free kick.
-
This is the guy i've been the most excited over for the past couple of years, fantastic that we've given him a long term contract at his age, the club must rate him as highly as the majority of us, exciting times indeed
-
Great news indeed. United took his parents out to dinner in an attempt to court him, he's obviously very gifted. Hopefully he has the attitude and work-ethic to go with it. And that there's no long-term effects to his injury.
-
is he injured still or can he start monday night? ;-))
great news anyway....
-
I really can't wait till next session when all these young lada will have a bit more experience and a full pre season together with Houllier
The best part is we have tied down every single good prospect.
The future is bright.

Let's hope it's not in division 2!
-
If this young lad is anything like the hype, we've done a marvellous bit of business.
-
Not seen much of him but like everyone else I've heard good things, we seem to be getting all these promising lads under contract and that bodes well.
I think Gary might have to try a bit harder than the other lads to become a crowd favourite but lets hope his talent propells him into our first team rather than him struggling and having to lower his ambitions.
-
Gardner, Hogg, Bannan, Albrighton, Herd, Delph. Some good up and coming talent coming through,
-
Plus Clark.
I've been impressed by the two full-backs in the reserve and youth team, Berry and Deeney. Not much gets past them and they both like getting forward.
-
Had Gary been fit during our injury blip, where do people think he would have been introduced? Before Clark? Before Hogg? Even before Bannan?
-
He's only 18 isn't he? Not sure he's played that many games in the reserves yet dso probably won'tbe introduced for a year or two?
-
Never seen him play but I have heard good things and its important to keep the youth going as these lads are our future! Just look at Albrighton

I don't think age is going to come into it personally look at our average age at the moment. If your good enough then your old enough i say
-
Is he still injured? He did something quite serious if I remember.
-
he is close to a return after knee ligament injury yossarian...

i have no doubt he would have been ahead of clark and most definately hogg...
houllier does seem to have taken a likening to bannon, and he is older so may have started ahead of him, but it would have been close... he most certainly would have gotten game time, of that i am 100% sure...
hopefully the new deal will end the speculation of benitez taking him to internazionale...
this with him being injured and houllier never seeing him... however, the backroom staff of cowans and the like, are very excited about him, and rightfully so, as am i, and have convinced the club to give him a new contract...
excellent news...
at least the young players, and the academy, have been a continued positive on a season that has been so dissappointing...
-
I remember seeing Gardner for the first time a couple of years ago for the reserves against Fulham.
He came on as a sub and alsmost immediately pushed himself to the head of the queue to take a free-kick on the edge of the box. He then curled it over the wall, past the 'keper and just inside the post.
Hmm, I thought, not bad for an Academy kid...
-
Watched Gardner get a hat-trick and i can tell you he would of been picked well before Hogg and Clarke. He is gonna be special. 6ft 1 and two great feet. Superb free kick taker ......
-
He's a nose.
-
Who cares? If he's any good, he won't be going to SHA.
-
Great news indeed. United took his parents out to dinner in an attempt to court him, he's obviously very gifted.
Why would he want to play for Colchester?
-
His elder brother seems to be doing well for them lot. He's the type of tenacious player we seem to missing at the moment.

Another player who was left in the cold by the previous regime, thought he did a decent job for us whenever he played.Hopefully by the end of the season his younger bro will start to come through.

And quite rightly too, he's doing well for that lot now but he was given enough chances with us and never looked like getting anywhere near being first choice.
-
C Gardner may be on a par with Hogg/ Herd/ Sidwell, but is not as good as Delph, Milner, Petrov, NRC so it was right to let him go imo. I'd prefer Bannan and Clark to him as well to be honest. Why did G Gardner get a longer contract than Barry Bannan who's already made an impression on the first team? I hope it it highly incentivised on doing well, there is a fine line to be drawn between losing good young players and making them feel like they have hit the big time time already and and losing their focus and desire.
-
I always rated Gardner. He'd have done a good job for us during this last few weeks.
-
There was always a lot to admire with Craig. He never let anybody down apart from his ridiculous tales of he who he supported as a kid. Basically making him a laughing stock when he had no need to lie in the first place.
If a player support blose but give everything for us, no worries.
And he did, he's just not quite good enough to be a top midfielder. His brother certainly is.
That's not sour grapes because Craig is with Blues now but because Gary genuinely class. Whereas Craig gets everything out of his game through effort, it all sometimes looks a bit too easy for Gary. I think that's the mark of very special players. Especially if they show that at a very young age.
I remember speaking with a former youth player and coach (brothers) when Craig was breaking through from the academy and they said even back then (2004?) "wait until you see his little brother". Who must have been little more than a primary school kid then and was already earning rave reviews. Gary was actually with us first too. At age 8 or 9, I believe.
Can't wait to get him back fit and in this emerging young squad. There will be a bit of hype around him when he steps up but I think he'll take it in his stride.
He'll really compliment Delph and Bannan too. All three superb passers with a bit of steel about them. A very exciting prospective midfield in years to come.
-

For me, the last player that made it all look so easy was Sid.
So, if the kid matches up to anything near that, then I cant wait to see him.
-
Its more to do with (typically) being much better than others of his age group. When he makes his first team bow he will obviously find it harder but I think he'll rise to it.
