Gerard houllier has said if benzema wants to come to villa he would definately want to buy him- having managed him at Lyon it's believed houllier has an edge over other interested parties- how nice to see us being linked with big name foreign stars- also djibril cisse being mentioned , he scored 28 goals last season after a £8m move.
-
the benzema comments are interesting, and while i think benzemas agent has stated that milan and the likes want to buy him, he isnt going to move permanently...
however, the fact that houllier has stated that he wants a player of benzemas calibre, is very ambitious and very exciting... bodes well for potential future transfers...
-
Let's hope GH pulls the transfer off.
-
Benzema and Gabby up front.. sounds pretty good to me even if it would be only for six months. Not that it'll happen but I suppose there's more chance of us signing a player like that now than when O'Neill was here.
-
MON would be looking at a map now wondering if Madrid was in France and getting all confused...

That goes a bit further to say we've been in talks with Madrid, but that's probably Mirror bullshit.
How old is Cisse now?
-
29 I think.
-
Wasn't it a tongue in cheek comment about Benzema?
-
I don't know that there are any legs in this but it is nice to be linked with someone decent from abroad for a change.
-
The dirty dozen back from injury and Pires, Benzema and Cisse, we could be very strong post Xmas.
-

What was wrong with McGeedy? Scotland not tropical enough for you? ;)
-
McGeady? Decent?
-
Ferguson said last summer that Man Utd offered £35m for Benzema but were outbid. I don't see us getting him anytime soon.
-
If he's on the fringes at Real Madrid and unhappy a loan spell could be a possibility.
-
I can maybe see a loan, but no chance of a permanent signing. As for Cisse,i think he's proved that he's not good enough for the PL. There must be better options in Europe than him.
-
although its very unlikely and the comment made by Houllier was tongue in cheek, its nice to finally see us being linked with a big name player ;D
-
And I'm interested in giving Melissa Theuriau one, let's see who gets lucky.*
* I made that up myself. I have never watched The Sopranos
-
Don't think Cisse is too bad, better than Delf right now, but probably not a long term solution granted.
-
Houllier said that he wasn't looking to bring in a striker in January and the quotes about Benzema were, as said above, made tongue in cheek so to speak. That said, no doubt if he became available to us we would snap him on a loan deal. It's also possible that Houllier does want another striker in January but is keeping shtum about it to keep our existing strikers motivated.
-
I think Houllier said that before injuries to Gabby, Heskey and Carew and the falling out with Carew. If Ash and Carew go in Jan we'll certainly need a striker.
-
He would certainly be the type of "bums on seats" signing we've been lacking for the past four years.
-
I like Cisse, he looks like a freak but when GH joined one of the first things I said was I hope he gets him.
Benzema? Now thats someone to get excited over!!
-

Cisse had a really good scoring record at liverpool 13 in 49 but most of those goals were sub appearances, he also scored 10 in 35 for Sunderland but what he does well is hold the ball up and win flick on's he's like a younger heskey
-
Even getting Benzema on-loan would be a massive step foward to our club. About time we get a player of that quality after we had to put up we've MON's boring transfer regime.
Just imagine an attack of Ash, Albrighton, Downing, Gabby and Benzema? fap fap fap lol.
-

He said it in response to being asked about Owen a couple of days ago, though maybe he was only referring to him.
-
So did Houlier manage Benz at Lyon ?
-
Wasn't it a tongue in cheek comment about Benzema?
Yes, but some people couldn't spot a vicar in a mountain of sugar.
-

Don't forget Scotland's answer to Xavi
-
He is not starting at Madrid but he is making an impact every time he comes on, I don't think he will go anywhere loan or permanent.
-
would be brilliant to see Benzema play for us even if its only a loan, but really cant see it
-
Shouldn't this be in the transfer speculation thread?
-
Starting for the French this evening.
-
Starting for the French this evening.
Scoring for te French this evening.
-
Starting for the French this evening.
And has just scored.
-
Well taken goal aswell.
-
Too good and too big a name for us i'm afraid.
-
Think any interest has just ended after that goal. As half of europe are watching .............
-
Real Madrid want Llorente........they won't loan him out to a team in the CL.Could be us.
-
Too good and too big a name for us i'm afraid.
No-one is too big for the Villa, you wont get a bigger name than Agbonlahor anyway :P
-
More chance of Kate Middleton running off with John Terry and opening a church for dwarves than Benzema coming here.
-
I think the two good things about this are benzema is cup tied for the champions league so you'd think the usual suspects who are in the champions league wouldn't want him in January. And obviously GH has managed him at Lyon so that air of familarity could work for us. Ambitious but who knows?
No thanks on Cisse.
-
I'm not expecting it to happen but I'm sure Alex and others would be happy for Benzema to be on loan with us for 6 months as they could see if he can do it in this league without spending any money.
-
Correct, most people seem to be under the impression he won't come here in January permanently 9qhich he wouldn't) but if he does leave Madrid in january, I only see him going out on loan.
-
No-one is too big for the Villa
Correct.
-
Good move by Gerard - sends out a positive message before the transfer window opens.
-

Why not? He can't play for any other team in the Champions League anyway. Don't see why they would care what he does in that team's domestic league.
-
Because it would mean they could possibly rest top players during the weekend games, thus if they played you having fresher players as your man allowed them to do it.

But if they loaned him to Inter, Chelsea or Bayern they'd also be sending him to a club where they would have a chance of getting back somewhere close to what they paid for him and with more of a chance of picking up the bulk of his wages.
Personally though, I'd be very surprised to see him loaned out anywhere. It's not as if there are many teams in the world who would loan out their second choice striker.
-
I liken this to the 'Villa agree deal for Aaron Hughes and Craig Bellamy' saga. We will get Cisse more likely. And will be used as a stalking horse for Benzema. However, if he pulls it off, I will instantly reverse my views about him forthwith.
-
No-one is too big for the Villa
Correct.
Crouch was, kept banging his head on the toilet cubicles.
-
But if we get him in on loan, it will click and Benzema would thrive and love playing for Aston Villa. So if Real Madrid decided to sell him, he would be very close to joining. Think positive and remember Real Madrid is mad club who have high turnover of players. But would Randy and Gerard spend say 20+ millions for him.

Mirror bullshit[/b].
How old is Cisse now?
They were bang on about Rooney John. But no thank you Cisse he is not resiliant enough for PL.
-
Spanish reporter on radio today said no chance, said he is highly rated in Madrid and close to getting a starting place.
-
Come on lads lets get real. He is not coming to Villa park so lets not get ourselves excited for nothing. Now we are starting to get a "French connection" (Pires Houllier) we can start looking at top young french strikers who will instantly recognise these icons ......
-
I want to see Aston Villa to be a best XI for young British and French Players and first choice club to develop their career.
Think we should set up a sister club in France :)

It was only a couple of weeks ago we were linked to Bafetimbi Gomis of Lyon. Next week it'll be Dimitri Payet. Take it all with a pinch of Dijon, but it's nice to dream.

Is that good or bad, I find it hard to keep track now we've started looking further afield?

Benzema is more likely than Payet.
He'll probably be one of the best wingers in the world in two years time and there's no way the likes of Madrid or Inter would let him go to us without a fight.
-
Gomis is a big pacey lad, kind of the equivalent of Carroll but has been the next big thing for ages and hasn't done much to justify it. Payet, as I understand it, is more of a winger but he's top scorer in France and some of his goals have been superb. He had an attitude problem a couple of seasons ago and I think he was banned for headbutting someone.
