What an odd couple!
Robbie Williams admits he's now following Aston Villa's results closely after their signing of Stephen Ireland.
Williams, a Port Vale supporter, admits he's now getting around in Villa training gear.
Robbie told the Birmingham Mail: “Stephen and I share the same personal trainer, and I met up with him over the summer when he came to stay with me.
“He’d rented a place out there in LA but I said ‘I’ve got a house free, come and stay at mine’.
“I like him and think he’s an amazing player.
“He sent me over some Villa training kit, so I’ll be in that regalia next time I try to lose a few pounds playing football.”

They could spend the days comparing tats !
Seriously though, it's purely too wealthy guys making friends .... good to know our players mix with stars !
-
Nice to see Robbie (a board member at the Vale) has adopted the Villa, much like myself (except I'm not on the board, obv)
-
Hi deero, how have you been enjoying the season so far ?
-
At least Robbie Williams is not one of those celebrity pricks who shouts loudly to everybody
'I SUPPORT MAN U, ARSENAL, CHELSEA.'
Always been a Vale lad and he's stuck with them.
Lyrics are bloody awful, mind.

Wasn't he pictured at Chelsea most weeks a few years ago?

Not sure, I found this
The club's most famous fan is singer Robbie Williams, who was raised in Stoke-on-Trent. He is now a major shareholder, having, in February 2006, bought £240,000 worth of the £250,000 worth of available shares in the club. Castle Comfort Stairlifts, the club's sponsors, at the same time bought the remainder for £10,000. For this investment, a restaurant at Vale Park is named after him.
"Although I can't be at the Vale often, my investment is just to say that my heart is still there and I'm a huge supporter. I'm really excited about what we may be able to do with the club in the future." Robbie Williams speaking in 2006.
-
It's well documented he's an avid supporter. He was on that crappy daybreak talking about them not long ago
-
He could save a baby from an inferno, and he would still be a cnut!
-
It's nice to know we hasve got Robbie Williams following our club's results just hope he could get some of those fit lady pop star's to make an appearance at villa park.

Has he split up with Jonathan Wilkes then and feeling lonely?

He could save a baby from an inferno, and he would still be a cnut!
Here, here, its amazing how he's stretched out so little talent for so long.
-
There's a pic of him, skin-headed and in his late teens, in Terry Weir's photo book. Think it was taken after we walloped Vale in the FA Cup (?) in '91.

Robbie Williams and the Villa: does a Juan Pablo Angel contemplate his fate?

Where, where? But I do agree with you. It's like discovering that twat from Soccer AM Richard Loverboy or whatever his name was is suddenly a villa fan...

When he's a very big Chelsea fan.
No similarity there old chap.
-
So big he started life supporting Watford.
-
Well I never.
I started life supporting West Brom.
-
Jesus, Tim.
Two points.
1. Jesus, Tim.
2. Even if you did, I wouldn't be mentioning it, on here.
-
Well everyone did where I come from and my Dad hates football, so no parental guidance.
Then a mate asked me to go to watch the Villa.
It was different gravy.
I was 13.
-
You're making it worse now.
You supported Albion until you were 13? I thought you mean till you were, say, six or something.
Jesus, Tim.

Jeez Paulie, I wasn't taken to football matches by my Dad.
I saw the Baggies twice, then my mate ( Robert Palmer - not THE Robert Palmer) and me went to VP via Bearwood on the number 9 - number 11 straight to VP and the mighty Holte End.
Could see fuck all, but man, the atmosphere was awesome.
I was smitten, and my two sons are now Villa boys, ST holders alongside their Dad who, without some wonderful intervention, would have been a fucking sad Baggies fan all his miserable fucking life.
Christ almighty, the very thought.
I thank Robert Palmer every time I see him !

Ah, the taken to matches by dad thing ..
My Dad is a Blues fan, at the age of six, I utterly refused all his requests to "go down the Blues" with him, and demanded that he take me to Villa Park. Which, to be fair to him, he did do. I think he secretly preferred it.
Every now and then over the years, he'd ask me to go down the Sty with him "in return", and I only ever went once. And that was only because he was close to tears.
Good work with the sprogs, though. Path of the righteous and what not.
-
Where were you brought up then ?
I was brought up in Halesowen - all Baggies when I was a lad.
I made my own mind up when the time was right - when I could differentiate I guess.
And I couldn't differentiate until I'd seen the light.
When all and I mean ALL around you follow a certain team, peer pressure is not something easy to resist, especially if you know no better.
What made you decide not to be a moron ??

Hall Green, surrounded by noses.
On my mom's side (family from Aston originally before moving to Gt Barr and Perry Barr), all Villa fans, there are a dozen or so of us who are season ticket holders today. Having done my family history recently, all regular match goers right back into the 19th century. When i was growing up, my mom's brothers "got" to me and ensured i followed the path of the righteous.
On my dad's side, only one person interested in football, my Dad, and he's a nose.
I think that probably says quite a lot about noses. There aren't that many of them, and they tend to put other people off football, full stop.
Having said that, though, for all the hyperbole and shoutiness of the week of the derby game, I would much rather my children grew up to be Blues fans than horrible, plasticky Chelsea or Man United fans.

You were lucky that your Mom's side steered you in the direction of B6 and all that it had in store for you - the cheers and the tears.
Hall Green has gone to the dogs lol
Me too I guess re. Blose v's Chelsea/ Manure in the son department.
Prefer them to follow another sport though if not Villa !
I have a twin brother who chose the oval ball, and Villa via Sky.
A better choice than Blose I guess !!
-
I am pretty sure Robbie Williams and one of the other Take That lads was at Villa Park for the 1994 home tie with Inter. In a Claret and Blue magazine at my moms where they are holding up the Muller stripes home kit. And i think there is anoher shot of them in it sat up in the Trinity Road stand.
-
Well I never.
I started life supporting West Brom.
That would explain a lot (winky effort).
It does make me wonder if more of our lot have ever dabbled with the lower orders though.
Two lads I knew from school who I had down as vaguely switched on took the opposite journey -switching allegiance from Villa to Newcastle and B-lose respectively.
-
Tim,
I know a Robert Palmer. Used to be a teacher but now in finance?
Living in Halesowen, i'd say it's a fairly even split between us and Albion now. We possibly edge it slightly.

This has reminded me that I've not heard Tim Lovejoy on Radio 5 for ages. Is he still there, or has he been given the heave-ho? Seen him on adverts for some Italian food product. Enough to make sure I never buy it.

Robbie Williams and the Villa: does a Juan Pablo Angel contemplate his fate?
Ooo are we playing let's get Villa players past and present into Robbie Williams songs? I'll go with Come Un-Dunne.
