Title: 0% Villa: Is It Wrong To Take Pleasure In Spurs' Misfortune
Post by: alanclare on October 20, 2010, 08:28:19 PM
I suppose that this is an ethical question, but am I wrong to find myself enjoying a little frisson of pleasure at Spurs being 4 - 0 down, and it's not even half-time?

Perfectly natural, in some small way it helps ease the pain of running the gauntlet back to the tube station of an evening when hordes of Spudz hoolies thought anyone was fair game & plod did jack shit.

I like to remember my past 'rencontres' with fans of said clubs at moments like this

....like the spurs fan who I had words with last season as he walked past us on the way out of WHL chanting 'boring, boring villa' right in our faces after they had spent as much time punting the ball up to Crouch and Defoe as we had to our forwards...somewhere, that guy will be enjoying this I'm sure as well as Spur's super stylish, easy on the eye football...

Hmm, this thread was a few minutes away from biting everyone on the arse!

If Ashley had performed like Bale did we'd be claiming him the world's greatest winger (he's probably closer to greatest whinger. Still love him though)

To balance things up, haha Spurs you still lost.

To be fair, I think Spurs have been in decent nick but they've been helped by some undeniable good fortune early season. Dunne's slip and of course, that debacle at the weekend against Fulham. There are probably other examples but as I don't give a shite about them I can't bring any to mind.

They've just played in Milan in the Champions League group stages and we have...what exactly?

Loving the piss taking, but I can't help feeling there's a touch of "it should have fucking been us" in there somewhere.

Also, these 'is it wrong to hate Spurs' type threads are getting a tad repetitive.

This is the second one is as many weeks devoted to the Lillywhite aresholes.

Aside from the blindingly obvious fact that no, it isn't wrong to hate them/ laugh at their misfortune - and nobody ever suggested it was- continuing to mention them makes us look smalltime.

I haven't checked, but I doubt COYS and the like have a myriad of threads devoted to Villa.

yep. Don't like them, but we need to give this jealousy thing up. It makes us look really small time. A bit like when the Noses have another "I hate the Villa" thread on KRO. Let's face it, we want to be where they are and despite being 4-0 down in Milan against the Italian and Champions League winners they came back to 4-3 with 10 men. That's good going however you look at it. They're not going to win the CL, they may not even get back there, but they'll have a decent run and make some money.

The answer to my question isn't clear. A lot of you are instinctively drawn to delighting in any misfortune that befalls Spurs, whereas many are more thoughtful and circumspect. I shall ponder on these things.

Interesting that the press are talking about Spurs' 'fightback' last night when it was nothing of the sort. For the majority of the second half they were penned in their own half again and only had a handful of counter attacks - that said, Bale's goals were brilliant.

Once again we see another inept Spurs european display yet the press seem to be able to spin it and give them much more credit than they deserve.

I dont watch Champions League any more. I think its a silly tournament and a disgrace to the memory of the European Cup (I pray it goes back to that format one day) so maybe I'm not as jealous as I might have been once upon a time.

That said, I can't stand Troddenon Dogsturd.
If they played a team featuring Hitler, Osama bin Laden, Stalin, Scouting for Girls and Davina McCall I'd still want them to lose.

I had to listen to a twat Spurs fan on the radio yesterday try and justify how they can realistically sign Rooney.
Their fans are very special. In an extra chromosome sort of way.

Great match to watch.  Bale is some player, soo direct, Ash is great, but too many step overs to slow things up, this guy just bursts forward at pace and his finishes were soo clinical, he hit the ball soo sweetly each time.  Why do our players fluff their lines so often, it is rare to see Ireland, Sidwell, Petrov, NRC, Gabby, Ash, Heskey or Carew hit the ball soo sweetly like that.

Agree, Its turn into a farce..    Seeded clubs, group stages , its called champions , so how does a team finish 4th and still have to qualify get into it.. Bring back the knockout stage now...          Big clubs saying their players play too many games and want a winter break while the like of arse play pointless  group matches against  Shaktar,Braga and Partizan, just so the big clubs get richer.

I watch it. It's been my only source over the last few years to see any decent football.
This week I saw part of the Real Madrid game, part of the Arsenal game but couldn't bring myself to watch Man United. Same goes with Chelsea although I will watch them in the PL. Too boring in Europe. If the Spurs game had been on here I might have watched it but only to see them get stuffed.

I just can't bring myself to want any of the English teams do well. Just how much additional money have Arsenal received for scoring 14 goals in 3 games? It's a simple fact that with the CL, the rich just get richer and realistically, we're never going to be able to compete.

What i can't stand is when the commentators say things like 'Spurs are 3-0 down, i know the millions watching back home won't be enjoying this', when in fact myself and millions of others are sat there pissing ourselves laughing. I want every English team in the Champions League and Europa league to crash and burn and lose every game, the only exception was Fulham because noone hates Fulham, but i still didn't want them to win the whole thing as that would have been a step too far.

I'm not going to take the piss out of a side that are in a competition that is our long term ambition to be in, and that just lost 4-3 with 10 men in a ground where we've lost 1-0 and 3-0 in our visits.
