We're (hopefully!) on our way to Wembley.
Who would you like in the 4th round? Draw takes place Saturday lunchtime.
-
someone easy at Villa Park
-
Brentford at home please.
Arse at home to Man U, Arse win. Blose lose to West Brom who get beat in the next round by someone shite. Wolves, having knocked out Arse play us in the Semis, we win. We play Newcastle in the final and break their bare chested hearts. Simple.
-
Northampton. They've had their moment now.
-
Northampton or Brentford at home will do me.
But I think we'll either get Newcastle away or it will be a derby game.
-
Blose at home with Arsenal and Manure drawing each other please.
-
Villa, Brentford, Leicester, Stoke, Newcastle, Arsenal, Ipswich, Wolves, Burnley, Birmingham, Northampton, Man Utd, West Brom, West Ham, Swansea & Wigan.
Burnley at home please.
-
Lots of people now not taking our own players seriously. For all his faults, Heskey delivered a match changing performance and thus deserves acknowledgement, not ridicule for previous inadequecies. I don't suddenly expect him to become a goal machine, but maybe he can be useful. Time will tell.
-
The draw 4th round
Man Utd v Arsenal
Birningham v West Brom
Stoke v West Ham
Wolverhampton v Wigan
and any of the rest v us at home!
-
Cobblers at home will do for me.
We managed for for most of last season.
Boom-boom!
-
Just to repeat
Chelsea, Man Shittie, Lpool, Spurs, Everton
not in the draw...hehehaha
-
Man u or arsenal at home- best time to play them is now as the further they get the stronger a team they put out- next round most of their 1st team will be rested as champions league is under way- let's put them out at villa park!
-
Said it last night and I'll say it again
It will be Blues at home
-
Good chance of a derby game. I make it that there are 5 other midlands clubs out of the 15 teams.
-
Id take Blues or Baggies at home, and beat em on the way to winning the trophey..
Still got a horrible feeling about stoke away...
-
Northampton away please.
-
I think Brentford away. Hope we dont get small heath, couldn't face playing them twice in a week.
-
Northampton, brentford or the blouses at home please.
-
This is a strange thread. By all means say who you'd like to play and why but statements over what you think the draw will be a clearly shots in the dark - what does it add? You may as well say the lottery numbers will be 7 9 23 24 37 41.
-
Just to repeat
Chelsea, Man Shittie, Lpool, Villadawg FC, Everton
not in the draw...hehehaha
Scratches head.. how did Spurs changed to this in my post...must be those clever word filters not allowing offensive stuff!
-

Cheers mate ill give you a few bob back if it comes through :)
-
I've a feeling it will be Birmingham City away. Or Stoke, or even WBA or Wolves - all would offer a very tough prospect.
We had a lot of luck in last years draw (except for the final obviously - well, you do have to win at least one game on your own before you win a cup) so I expect it to run out in astonishing fashion this year.

That's it I believe in the God of H&V....the all powerful all knowing controller! Just wanted to make the point that that lot from White Hart Lane are also out of the cup (prays that White Hart Lane is not replaced with Spurs )
-
Don't mind who we get. I'm feeling bullishly confident!
-
I want Northampton or Brentford away as it would be a new ground for me, and very winnable.
I dont want Small Heath, Stoke, Arse or Man U.
-
WBA v Wolves
West Ham v Birmingham
Arsenal v Man Utd
Aston Villa v Northampton
Brentford v Stoke
Swansea v Wigan
Burnley v Ipswich
Leicester v Newcastle
-
Someone shite at home will do very nicely.
-
Wigan away would do me nicely as it would be nice and convenient from work!
Northampton at home.
-
When is the next round anyway?
-

Let me just grab a pen, is that for the lottery or Euro Millions??
-
Albion - Away
-
Man Utd at home. With Chelsea, Man City, Spurs, Everton and Liverpool out and Arsenal fielding the youngsters up to and maybe including the final if we can knock United out we'd be looking good. Doing a '94 and knocking Blues out on the way to winning it would be OK as an alternative.
-
Albion - Away
You want them to get money from a decent crowd?
-
When is the next round anyway?
I think it's around 25th October.
-
I'd like a home draw and anybody other than Blues or Albion.
-
Albion - Away
You want them to get money from a decent crowd?
No way. Playing them twice a year is bad enough. Its been so long now that I'm actually getting a little twitchy over the laws of probability. Losing that pre-season friendly 15 years back was bad enough.
-
Leicester again perhaps? I always forget with them whether we owe them one or if it's the other way round and we've banished the ghost. Didn't they do us at VP 4 years back? In that case we owe them. >:(
-
Megson's side beat us at home yeah.
-
I wouldn't mind Leicester away, that was a cracking night out a couple of years ago.
-

That was superb! I was at the back row right in the corner!
Went mad when we scored at the end and copper bollocked me haha

-
I'll be surprised if we don't get a Midlands derby.
-
Can't believe anyone would want the filth.
The fewer times we have to face them the better, as we're always likely to come a cropper to them at some point. We win and it's no big deal, it's expected. They win and we don't hear the end of it for months -in some cases years.
That would be magnified tenfold if they actually put us out of a tournament where we have a better than average change of winning.
I'd go Northampton at home, but wouldn't be distraught at facing Man U at our place. They'll still be fielding a relatively weak side at this stage of the comp, but it could still be viewed as a scalp.
As well as taking out another big side and potential winner of the comp, it could also provide the impetus for our season to really get going.
-

I missed out on tickets to that game so I sat in the home end next to my Leicester supporting girlfriend (although she has a ST in the Holte) and her family. I spent much of the match watching the away end feeling jealous. How I didn't jump up when the winner went in I don't know but I vowed never to go in the opposition end again.
Also a win would stop the snide comments I've been getting since MON left. Living in Leicester, I've had plenty.
-
I'd prefer a comfortable home draw, but the writing is on the wall for a Midlands derby or our traditional cup exit at the hands of Man Utd.
-
Blues, will do for me, Don't get many chances to beat them twice in the same week
-
I'm half tempted to say Man United at home as they're more likely to play a weaker team at this point than if we meat them later. Actually, Brentford at home will do just fine.
-
Northampton, Brentford or Swansea at home please.
-
Albion - Away
You want them to get money from a decent crowd?
I get to see it for free
-
Brentford away would be nice. Actually any London side away.
Saying that I want an easy tie at home.
-
Bentford at home please ...........
-
Swansea (A)
-
What time is the draw?
-
What time is the draw?
12 noon today
-
I will make my way into the office canteen about then
-
An easy tie at home, hopefully one that'll only cost £10 to get into, then I'll be able to go :-)...really hoping it's on week commencing 18 Oct as I'm at my parents' then.
-
after watching last nights game...i hope we get Leicester @ home
-
my prediction for the draw
vill v leicester
small heath v dingles
newcastle v man utd
ipswich v burnley
swansea v northampton
west ham v stoke
wigan v arsenal
brentford v baggies
-
here's the no's. From football league website:-
The draw, which is due to get underway at approximately 12.15pm during Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, will include one side from League 2, one from League 1 and four from the Championship.
The numbers for the draw are as follows:-
1. Arsenal
2. Aston Villa
3. Birmingham City
4. Brentford
5. Burnley
6. Ipswich Town
7. Leicester City
8. Manchester United
9. Newcastle United
10. Northampton Town
11. Stoke City
12. Swansea City
13. West Bromwich Albion
14. West Ham United
15. Wigan Athletic
16. Wolverhampton Wanderers
-
Last round they didn't manage to start the draw till after the 12.45 game had kicked off. Hopefully they will pull their fingers out today.
-
I know we say it twice a year but we will never, ever have a better chance of winning a trophy.
-

Im pretty sure its the week after that
-
It is
-
I know we say it twice a year but we will never, ever have a better chance of winning a trophy.
Or at least get to the final when we play Man Utd.
-

Cleary not :(
-
Arsenal or Man Utd at home please.
-
Burnley at home
-
Burnley at home, take that.
-
Not the most exciting draw but at least not sha away!
-
Thanks BBC. Just showed the highlights of this weeks cup games, and the only team mentioned at having a low attendance?
-
burnley... That'll do
-
That'll do.
-
Listening to R5, Alan Green was talking/moaning about the Carling Cup and mentioned the low attendances, lots of teams were mentioned, but not Villa.
-
full draw:-
Newcastle United v Arsenal
Birmingham City v Brentford
Wigan Athletic v Swansea City
Aston Villa v Burnley
Leicester City v West Bromwich Albion
Manchester United v Wolverhampton Wanderers
West Ham United v Stoke City
Ipswich Town v Northampton Town
All ties will take place during the week commencing October 25th.
-
Decent draw for us , arsenal at Newcastle will be tough- could be with Albion and blues in the last 8- exciting times ahead hopefully.
-

BBC is a broad family! Just BBC1 then.
Decent draw for the next round. But always have to be wary in cup competitions.
-
Thanks BBC. Just showed the highlights of this weeks cup games, and the only team mentioned at having a low attendance?
I noticed that. Of course the wonderful Koppites managed 22,000 - including 4,500 Northampton. We managed nearly 19,000 with about 500 Blackburn - so virtually the same.
As for the draw. That'll do nicely. If we go out, we have only ourselves to blame. Blose are having some fucking jam this year...
-

Doh! I'm on holiday. Even though I have a season ticket, I'll still buy a ticket for this though just in case we make the final...you never know!
-
Great draw. Can not whinge at a home draw against lower league opposition. Some good all premiership ties as well. It looked good before the draw, more positive now, we really should be making the very late stages of this trophy.
-
My predicted teams to go through:
Villa
Newcastle
The Filth
Wigan
The Stripey Filth
Man U
West Ham
Ipswich
-
God, strange to see so few teams left already. This year looks very winnable indeed. If we have to face Utd, I'd rather do it early, when the kids will get played, so maybe next round would be nice.
We've a very good chance of winning it. Houllier's done well with this competition too.
-

I think they were referring to the fact that it was GH's first match and trying to make something of it. If it had been a league game, it would have been 35,000+.
-
Good draw and looking at QF possible's Brentford, Ipswich, Leicester looking good!!
Shame Northampton didn't get a big team.
-
Dull draw but should be a victory. We can save the excitement until later in the competition
-
Excellent draw. We'll be easily through.
Shame Manure are at home, could do with them being knocked out.
I've a sneaky feeling that the Bees could turn the Blues over.
-
I will take that draw for us very gladly.
-
What a fantastic draw.
Good to see a few all PL ties as well.
I honestly think we're on our way to Wembley again. Certainly the draw has conspired to make it as easy as possible for us.
-
Got to be happy with that. And I am.
-
Joyousness.
-
Over the moon with that draw...
Great chance of last 8 ...
-
Can anyone else see a potential bannana skin here?
-
Can anyone else see a potential bannana skin here?
Yes, Brentford have been given an away draw.
-
Can anyone else see a potential bannana skin here?
No way they were shocking away from home last season.
They were up for Bolton because of the derby and manager affect.
-
Can anyone else see a potential bannana skin here?
Definitely.
They put us out in 2004/05 and nearly repeated the trick at our place the following year.
An awkward tie, awkward in the sense that they are lower league opposition but they are probably too strong to entertain any notions of rotating against them. Had we got Brentford or Northampton at home we probably could have got away with it.
-
No way, as good as a bye. If we don't win, ill cut my ballbag off with a rusty pair of pliers!!
-
Blues have had the easiest cup run of all time, Rochdale, MKDons and Brentford all at home.
Villa, Blues and Albion to all make the quarters which could be interesting. Bring on the Blues at home, it would have to be a night game and the atmosphere would be like when they first came up, these noon games are boring.
-
Nah I don't see it. Coyle has gone, they're poor away from home and I'd expect us to smash them comfortably.
-
Can't grumble about the luck of the draw again - we have avoided
the other Prem teams and got a 'home'
Start saving for a Wembley trip (fingers & toes crossed) ?
-
I would of just preferred to have played small heath and kicked them out the cup ASAP. We don't want those horrible, little knuckle draggers getting anywhere near the Q-Finals.
-
An awkward tie
I am trying to picture you typing that with a straight face.
-
We should beat Burnley at home, then a kindish draw for the quarters, Wet Spam/Ipswich/Wigan at home and its semi's all over again. Last seasons highlight for me was the Blackburn semi, on BBC1 as well with the spectacular claret and blue flag show....of course 6-4 didn't hurt either.
I have a feeling we will get either Blues or Newcastle over the two legs and we should be up and running big time by then.........Man U at Wembley anyone???
-
Hopefully we'll play a strong side. That should be enough to see us through comfortably enough.
-
Can't grumble with that, home tie and beattable opposition.
Inevitable to me we'll get SHA in the quarters.
-
Can't grumble with that, home tie and beattable opposition.
Inevitable to me we'll get SHA in the quarters.
Can I ask why its inevitable we'll get SHA in the quarters. We've been drawn against them only 3 times in 50 years of the competition, 2 2 leg second round ties and once in the final when it was two legs which we don't really talk about.
In fact I'd say its more likely we'll get Albion.
-
Can anyone else see a potential bannana skin here?
Yes, Brentford have been given an away draw.
Nicely done.
-
I can't grumble - would love to meet Small Heath at Wembley.
-
Wembley way would resemble Basra pre and post match.
A bad idea.
-
I can't grumble - would love to meet Small Heath at Wembley.
Do you have a stadium re-building company looking for a new contract?
-
Wembley way would resemble Basra pre and post match.
A bad idea.
It was bad enough after the Chelsea semi-final. And they weren't even gloating properly.
-
Most other teams from the same city would bury their differences for the duration of a day out at Wembley. A Villa-Blues final would be the exception.
Carnage on every train down to Euston.
Carnage at every service station on the M40, M6 and M1 between Birmingham and London.
Carnage on the Underground and at any pub where a group of supporters gathered for a drink.
No thanks.
-
Sadly I agree, it would be carnage. Every meathead from both clubs would travel down, including those on banning orders etc.
Too many innocents would get caught up in it. Us and them in a final doesn't bear thinking about.
-
It would be great, and anyone who wouldn't go because we were playing Blues is a big girl.
-

Once you saw a fraction of the carnage which would kick off you'd be changing your mind.

Penetrating analysis.

Personally i'd rather play them in the semis, two night games home and away, it would be like the games when they first came up not like these tame noon kick offs.
-
I can't grumble - would love to meet Small Heath at Wembley.
I heard the Met police were praying that wouldn't happen last season. I think it would be carnage and virtually un-managebale for them!!
-
Err can we just focus on Burnley please and hope that Brentford can do everyone in the educated world a favour and knock them out
I honestly would prefer it if we never played the filth ever again
-
The main reason I wouldn't want to play them is because they're due to beat us. Even though we're considerably better than they are the law of averages says we can't keep winning. I'm dreading playing them in October, simply because we've beaten them six times in a row. This logic is somewhat silly I know.

Yes, they were great those two, weren't they?
Are you ever going to understand that this isn't a video game, innocent people get caught up in what you doubtless call 'atmosphere' and I for one would rather go to a match without the thought that every minute I'm outside my front door I'm having to be careful?

The same law of averages says that after 100 years they should have actually won something, yet they continue to be a club that defies modern scientific understanding.

They were great. It's a shame VP hasn't been that intimidating since, but it would come close with a two legged semi final against them.
-
Think this season has big prospects and that progression will bring the crowds and atmosphere back to Villa park .....
-
Game to be played Wednesday 27 th Ocober 7.45 pm kick off
-
Tell you what BCV, rather than thousands of ordinary match-day going supporters being caught up in the mayhem that would ensue if we played a LC semi-final against them in the evening after the nutters on both sides had been drinking for hours, why don't you just walk into the Pump Tavern in Handsworth in a Klu Klux Klan outfit? The intimidation would be similar but it will only be you getting a kicking.
-
I wish I was as brave and tough as Blackcountry Villa. He comes across as being really cool, I bet he looks like the Fonz.
-
I love those intimidating cup nights, crouched in a doorway with my kids

There is that.
But I tend to side with the original chap.
We've lost to worse sides than them over the last 12-18 months and -setting aside my obvious dislike for them as a Villa fan- in recent seasons they have become semi competent.
I'd much rather avoid any aggro on or off the pitch and stick to playing them twice every season in the league only. Or better yet, McLeish bails on them and they sink like a stone, robbing them of their two biggest games per season.
We can beat them ten times on the bounce, won't register. They only need to beat us once and if it's in a tournament that we stand a decent chance of winning we'd never hear the end of it.

Sorry for the multiple quote, but they were far from 'great' in any way at all. I'd be a big girl.

So intimidating we lost both games by a 5-0 aggregate and in the home leg disgraced ourselves both on the pitch and off it. I was ashamed to be a Villa fan the day after 030303 and I never want to let those bastards take the moral high ground again. You can take your intimidation and stick it.
-
We haven't lost to any of our West Midlands rivals for 5 years... the law of averages isn't exactly the 'law' lol. When small heath come up to Villa Park at Halloween they'll stick 5 in the midfield, park the bus and try and nick something towards the end - just like last season but failed because they seem to think you can't foul a player if you get a scrape of the ball - perhaps they'll learn from their mistake and actually try and play football with a 4-4-2 and not be pussies being afraid of losing again.
-
They were great. It's a shame VP hasn't been that intimidating since, but it would come close with a two legged semi final against them.
Yes, the bricks that were flying over my head on Witton Lane were great. The Villa fans who attacked their own were great. The police being assaulted was great. The man Damon's dad wrote about dying in the street while the sound of fighting and police sirens filled the air was great. Our manager being so ashamed of what happened that night he thought about resigning on the spot was great. The image shown around the world of our club being dragged into the gutter was great. Leaving the ground early because for the first and only time ever I just wanted to be away from there was great.
Is that really what you want football to be about?
-
Shite, I remember that piece from Brian Green in H&V.
Truely awful night on so many levels that as Dave has stated.
-

As any Steel Pulse fan from Handsworth will tell you, it's Ku Klux Klan
-
I've never known at atmosphere like that night any game before or after, nearly everyone was foaming at the mouth, myself included. An experience.

Oops!
I just like the alliteration of the extra 'l'.

Remember reading that article, seem to remember it being printed without a name attached to it aswell.
Possibly the most moving piece iv ever read in a H & V....
Dont get me wrong, i hate them more than anyone / anything.. But the fact is we all in some way lost control that night, Never
want to see scenes like that ever again in my ground... Never thought i'd ever have as bad a night following the Villa than
when we had to stand there while being 3-0 down at the sty...... But that night topped it off!!!
Up The Villa!
-
Tenner for Burnley. That'll do for me.
-
Tenner for Burnley. That'll do for me.
Me too. It's also a good excuse to avoid playing for my terrible halls team on the Wednesday afternoon.
-
Bring on Leicester and MON if they get him. Tosser.
