Title: 0% Villa - Allardyce 'I should be managing Real or Inter.'
Post by: Rip Van We Go Again on September 18, 2010, 12:33:07 PM
From telegraph.co.uk

Sam Allardyce insists that he has the capabilities to take on the challenge of managing one of Europe's top teams.

Sam Allardyce’s managerial career may have been marked as much by an unshakeable self-confidence as it has been by his penchant for baiting Arsène Wenger and his enthusiasm for functional football, but even by his standards his claim on Friday that he would feel more at home at the Bernabeu than Blackburn is an unlikely one.

Given the former Bolton manager’s well-documented belief that his attempt to turn Newcastle into a genuine force was ended prematurely, and his permanent happiness to link himself with the England job, it is tempting to take such an assertion at face value.

“I am not suited to Bolton or Blackburn,” he said, in apparent seriousness. “I would be more suited to Inter Milan or Real Madrid.”

Such a move, he believes, would bring both him and the club involved unparalleled success. “It would not be a problem to me to go and manage those clubs because I would win the double or the league every time.”

That qualification — “or the league” — is important.

Allardyce would not want anyone thinking he was getting carried away. Particularly as his next statement was designed to highlight his suitability to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United or Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea.

“Give me Manchester United or Chelsea and I would do the same, it would not be a problem. [This] is not where I am suited to, it is just where I have been for most of the time.

“It is not a problem to take me into the higher reaches of the Champions League or Premier League. It would make my job a lot easier in winning it.”

Allardyce, it should be noted, has always been genuinely happy to express his solidarity with his counterparts, a kindness he extended Mark Hughes, his opponent as manager of Fulham on Saturday and another man who the Blackburn manager feels has not been given the chance his talents deserve.

“There is a perception other people can do better than you, but in reality that is not the case,” he said.

There aren't many people in football I genuinely can't stand but he's one of them.

I like him. Despite his horrific tactics in the League Cup semi a few years back with Bolton.

I think he's underrated, but his football really is awful.

Hard to take him seriously until he does.

Saying that you could win the league with Real is a bit like saying you could make cheese on toast if you had some cheese and some toast.

Any half decent manager, of which he is, could win the league with Inter or Real Madrid. Only managers like Kevin Keegan could squander a whole heap of money (it may have not been much compared to today, but it was hugely significant then) and not win anything.

allardyce loves talking himself up...

i remember quotes from a while back where he said he was one of the best at mind games, and another where he mentioned being a "tactical" manager...

i did have a chuckle...

and who can forget such classics as "to the untrained eye, it looks like villa were the better side", after we thrashed his team 4-0, had superior posession, passing percentages, chance creation, and chances taken stats in the game...

must be nice to live with such delusions...

as for his comments on wenger, tbh, he has a point there... as does owen coyle... wenger wasnt so critical of strong challenges when it was petit, vieira, bergkamp, keown, adams, dixon, winterburn, etc, gaining 90+ red cards while he was manager...

On paper it looks bad but just heard the interview and to be fair to him he did seem to have his tongue firmly in his cheek and was chuckling slightly.

The problem with Allardyce is that he has a pretty low IQ, and like most thick people he is too thick to work out that he is thick

i think that is sort of what he's saying,
a bit like a average jockey saying he could be the champion jockey if he had the same rides as Tony McCoy

Anyone who thinks Big Sam should get a shot at the England job should have seen their tactics against Fulham today.

Endless long punts into the box and Diouf assaulting Schwarzer every time, no attempt to get involved with actual football.

Short of getting the players to wear orthopaedic shoes, I can't think of anything which would set the national team back more than appointing Allardyce.

Come on you lot everyone  would  have been impressed with tactics deployed  yesterday with up and over aimed for the penalty spot Diouf bumping the GK and ball in the back of the net from Samba.  I can see the San Siro and Bernabeau being  lit with excitement.

I Could Play Freddie Mercury, Claims Allardyce (http://newsarse.com/2010/09/20/i-could-play-freddie-mercury-claims-allardyce/)

Quote
Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has continued his extraordinary public breakdown by insisting he is the perfect candidate to play Freddie Mercury in an upcoming film about Queen.

Allardyce, who left the world of football open-mouthed in disbelief on Friday when he claimed that he could manage Real Madrid despite presiding over a style of play that is the footballing equivalent of a backstreet abortion, has issued a come and get me plea to Brian May and Roger Taylor, who are overseeing the project.

“Much like me, Freddie was a man’s man,” said Allardyce. “He was a performer, a showman. Why do you think twenty odd thousand people come to Ewood Park every other week?”

“It sure as shit isn’t for the football, I can guarantee you that. They come to see me strutting around the technical area in the same way that Freddie used to strut around the stage.”
Queen Movie

Allardyce has urged May and Taylor to reconsider the decision to cast Sacha Baron Cohen in the role of Freddie Mercury, something he considers would be a huge mistake.

“Sacha is a Girl’s name for starters,” He insisted. “It would be an insult to Freddie’s memory.”

“There’s only two people on this Earth who could exude the required high levels of masculinity to do Freddie’s memory justice. One’s me, the other’s Tom Selleck.”

Mr Modesty is at it again

Sky Sports Link (http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11676_6498252,00.html)

Sam Allardyce has defended his Newcastle United tenure ahead of Blackburn Rovers' trip to St James' Park on Wednesday night.

The Rovers tactician spent just eight months on Tyneside having built his reputation following an impressive eight-year spell with Bolton Wanderers.

Allardyce won just eight of his 24 games in charge of The Magpies losing 10 before being sacked after failing to win over the Newcastle faithful.

The 56-year-old insists he was not given enough time by the club's hierarchy, although he has no bitterness towards the club for how he was treated.
No bitterness

"I have proved most of the time that when I get a football club it improves from where it was," explained Allardyce.

"That was going be the case at Newcastle but I was not given enough time, but there is no bitterness towards the club.

"I'm not sure that apart from Arsene (Wenger) and Sir Alex (Ferguson) anyone else has managed at this level for as long as I have.

"I take a huge amount of pleasure in having been able to sustain my ability in the best league in the world."

Tactician? Allardyce?

In fairness he didn't use that word. And fair fucks he's won up at his old club tonight, must be a sweet feeling for him. Good self-publicist though, yeah.
