I am miffed that the board saw fit to remove the corner screen and 'replace' it with a mickey mouse score only one the other side of the North Stand.
From the Upper Trinity, the 'old' screen was a part of the ground and information to boot.
If the screen was taken down and not put back up due to financial retraints, then I think it's a poor decision by the board.
Anyone else missing the big screen ??
-
I sit in L4 and the screen no longer being there is very annoying!
it's funny how the trinity has the most expensive seats in the ground yet now they cant even see a TV screen.
-
Does that corner of the ground look any better since the work was done? I wasn't sure why the box and the screen were taken out and I guess it must be in preparation of the stand's demolition next year?
-
I assumed it was to do with refurbishments. Wouldn't they pay for themselves with advertising etc?
-
hardly any difference from the outside in my opinion just looks odd now that there's a massive space that used to have a screen in it.
-
I thought the removal of the screen was only temporary. Is is gone for good ?
-
Just like to point out that the view of the screen from the Witton Upper is excellent.
-
It's annoying as you can't watch a replay of something that has just happened, something I've become used to since over the last few years.
-

You mean the other screen, one that we ( in the Trinity) can't see at all ?
-
The new mini scoreboard looks cheap and poxy.
I'd expect to see that at Wycombe Wanderers or a club of that ilk.
Not one of the top grounds in the country.
-
We sit in the middle trinity and we can see the Holte/trinity road screen fine.
However, I think it was mistake to remove the other screen, although there is probably a perfectly good reason why.
-

That's the one. Id just like to confirm that you can see it really well from the upper Witton.

Good stuff.
The cheap one looks so Kiddy Harriers - there was a time in Randy's tenure when he didn't do things like that without some sort of explanation and maybe some consultation.
The rotating screen on the Holte carpark isn't working either at the moment.
Has the board consulted Uswitch ?
-
For 45 quid in the upper trinity or witton they should get little tvs next to the seat if they can't see the Holte screen.
-
We must be one of the only grounds in the country where the away fans can see a screen that a lot of the home fans can't.
-

And a Thai girl serving food and drinks.
-
I must say i prefered it when the screen was there.
-
Sitting as I do in the lower holte I used to have the same predicament every game of do I turn left to try and look through the bodies at a closer screen or look across to the clearer view but further away - that has now been removed from my worry asd i now only have the one choice !! - For me not only the screen going but what is that viewing box thing there now with a great pillar that is the north stand right in the middle suppost to be ??
-
Off thread, but I didnt know where to ask... just a few seats from me and my wife lives a character that spends the match spewing vitriol at all players, ref and manager. Now, im not whiter than white in the potty mouth region (grew up on a farm, worked in a factory, so I know must of the meanings, and have used a number myself), but can keep it to a minimum, only for great or poor moments. My concern is, this guy can spoil the game with his constant barrage (for instance, started cheering the Rapid team towards the end of the game the other day), and after forking out for two season tickets, I really want to see the game, join in with the crowd etc. There is a little kid that sits next to him, and a bunch of young kids in front. Is it something I should report, or will I get laughed at, or something I just just get on with?
-
...win yer gorrrrrr well yer send back alettttta ferrrrome Amerika
-
I've fair got that playing in my head now.

FFS, was there a problem with not being able to watch the big screen for the 100 plus years before it was there?
Some football fans these days expect nothing but 5-star pampering. Watch the action on the pitch, thats what you pay your money for.
-
I must admit, I do find it annoying having to crane my neck (sit in UT) to see the one in the Holte / Trinity corner.
The thing those bozos on VT are forgetting is that it isn't just about seeing the team line ups, it is seeing the stats / bookings / replays they show, too.

For the money paid these days, 5 star pampering isn't that unreasonable ;)
It's not asking for much, just something basic that every premier league club basically has these days.
-

Annoyingly sensible post of the day.
I sit in Upper Trinity and can not see the other screen. Since you can hear it, it's like knowing there's a party going on but you're not invited. For the money we pay etc etc grumble grumble.
It's useful becuase it has the team sheets on so you know who is who on the opposition team, you get to see the half time scores, the highlights, especially the highlights.
I really hope they replace it soon, if they ever intend to do so.
-
I actually liked the replays. The gen said its not going back up didn't he?

It's not 'pampering', it's match atomsphere related - that and information / replays.
FFS, what timewarp are you in man ?

Goodbye Giant Screen
May you ever grow in our hearts.
You had the scores displayed in lights
From England's furthest parts
You showed them to the Holte End,
The goals from every single game.
Now you belong to heaven,
and the stars spell out your name.
And it seems to me you lived your life
like a candle in the wind, never fading
with the sunset when the rain set in.
And your scoreliness will be displayed here,
along England’s greenest hills;
Your lightbulbs burned out long before your legend ever will.

I'm stil blaming Uswitch ;-)

Same for me.

I'd buy that for a dollar!

Jesus, there was me thinking that it was the game taking place on the pitch and a passionate crowd that created an atmosphere. If I would have known that it was a jumbo screen I would have not bothered pestering my brother if he could take me along with him to a Villa match back in 1986. I should have asked him to take me to watch Karate Kid Part 2 and Crocodile Dundee at the Cannon Cinema in Walsall instead.

I sit in In K4 and like the new scoreboard because I can actually see it, whereas I could only see the big screen when sitting down!

Maybe you should have done.
The screen doesn't create the atmosphere to my knowledge, it's inanimate - it is not atmospheric per se.
It DID however provide information ( various) and filled what is now a very ugly gap between the North Stand and the Witton Lane very adequately.

What a bunch of prats
They're all too frightened to say anything that might upset Randy over there.
I wonder if they'd be so forgiving if it was Doug who took down the big screen and replaced it with the type of scoreboard we had 30 years ago?

Correct on both counts.
The demographics relating to those who frequent that forum are somewhat different to this one to be honest though.

Yep, you can see the virtual chalk being thrown by the moderators at those whose minds are proving hard to manipulate.
H&V is the place, the cool place where dudes hang out and talk merrily away about such impracticalities as the 'mystery of the missing screen' without childish commentary.

I'm with you on this one, Leighton.
When my brother and his mates finally took their seats next to me in the Upper Trinity (A1) last Sunday, the first thing he commented on was the missing screen. I told him it would make no difference. By the end of the game, the only difference it might have made was to the amount of time he spent using the 3G capabilities of his poxy Blackberry to know what the scores were in the other games and what his friends were saying they were doing on Facebook.
I on the other hand really enjoyed the lack of replays and watching the match in the good old-fashioned manner to which I used to be accustomed, instead of having those around me taking a second look and confirming what they knew all along Andy Gray style.
I'd be perfectly happy if they took the other screen away too to be honest.
-
Old Trafford. Biggest stadium in the league. No screen... Bet that really pisses the Prawn sandwich brigade off.

Big time I should imagine.
No wonder they haven't sold their ST's this season ;-)

Yes that is what I assume Pete3206 meant and I am there as well. The screen looks perfect from Witton End Upper!
-
The removal of the screen also disappoints me, I don't see a reason for it?
-
I just assumed we'd jumped on Dave's Big Austerity Trip and we're looking to save a bit on the 'leccy.
Couldn't give a shite in all honesty, although I do occaisionally pine the super "speccy style" pixelated scoreboards bought by Doug in about 1991.
-
It was Martin's. He took it home with him, along with the balls they use in training.
-
Is that a new box they've put in just underneath where the screen was? Few more quid to add to the coffers.
-
it's a walkway i believe there's usually a line of chefs stood watching the game from there in the second half I presume having finished the meals for the boxes etc.
-
I was told by a tour guide a month or so ago that it was MON's decision to remove it as he doesn't like them.
Why only the one screen I don't know.
-

He probably couldn't see the one in the Trinity/Holte corner from the touchline? Strange man....

I heard it is Randy who doesn't like them.

The club still give no answers to this.
That corner of the ground looks dreadful without the screen from the Trinity Upper- plus it was very informative.

I agree.
I can't imagine it was removed for asthetic purposes over information/replays/etc so perhaps there's another reason for it going.
Has anyone asked The General?
-
Its a bit like SSN on Freeview, I missed it at first but now.....meh.

No they removed the so called super box and screen and added a walkway.
-
I quite like the space where the North/Witton stand screen was, as I can now look off into the distance at the hills while the away team attack our goal.........
-

Doc, if you're on the Holte Lower, you can see the one between the Holte and the Trinity, so it's no problemo to you......
Meanwhile, back in the Trinity, it's not a pretty sight that's been left vacant I can tell you.
-
It's all to do the the masterplan to redevelop the North Stand. There are some quite detailed plans knocking around for what it will look like, although I've not actually seen them.
-
I'm still annoyed its gone too.
The other thing is presumably the work they did on that corner over the summer was part of a grander plan in terms of redeveloping the north stand - now if they have done that work, they must have some idea as to what they are doing, therefore there must be some plans prepared for the North Stand that the club haven't released yet?!

your right, from the Lower Holte I can see the screen and I feel for those that can't.

I sit in the lower Holte row QQ and it's hard to see the screen and the scoreboard at the otjer end looks pants.

That'll be because the West Ham game aside, all the home games that have been played since the change have had a 'meh' quality about them.
