With Milner going who do you think will be our new penalty taker?
Carew would be my choice but will he play every game, probably not so which regular should get the responsibilty?
-
Ireland
-
No one really stands out, we missed alot of penalties last season, i wonder if gabby is any good from the spot? Might get the 20 goals a season out of him then! Just a thought UTV!!!!
-
Did he take pens for City?
Keane if we get him. Carew if he's playing. If not I'd be tempted to vote Ireland as well.
-
Did Ireland take the penalties for citeh?
-
Don't think so. Elano would be my guess.
-
Petrov has good connection and is very calm. I always get the feeling that he has the most blocked long shots in the league.
-
Carew. If he's not playing, then Ashley.
-
Don't think so. Elano would be my guess.
Tevez took them last season, Elano before that.
-
Ashley or Luke Young, makes it easier for journalists.
-
Ashley young would be my shout. Whats Downing's Spot kicks like?

Bet he hits the bar.

Brad
-
Carew was first choice penalty taker ahead of Milner anyway.
-
Brad! Bloody hell the keeper facing him would hide behind the goal amongst the fans. We thought Carew can put his foot through the ball.
-
And with his new tiger armed shirt, he would look scary (almost like Sully from Monsters inc actually) just running up
-
Gabby. It's time he became our senior striker and we should be prepared to allow him time to learn to become a penalty taker.
-
I'd go for Downing I think. He took them for Middlesborough a few years back and did very well and as he's very much a confidence player getting a few goals would be good for him (conversely missing a pen would be a blow but I'd trust him).
If not probably big John or Gabby (which ever is playing), I always like the idea of strikers taking the pens, just by having to practice them it teaches them a bit of calmness under pressure which hopefully translates to 1-on-1s, etc.
-
Only thing with ash is he only ever puts it too his right Carew needs to calm down abit and he'd be great with more placement tbh but who knows maybe albrighton could have a good shout :)
-
Heskey, Man City have bought our last 2 penalty takers.

I like the cut of your jib young man
-
What's wrong with Carew taking them?
-
I'm a big fan of Carew's 'hit it as hard as you possibly can' penalty taking technique.
-
Carew when he's on the pitch.
Ireland or Young otherwise.
-
Not Ashley. He's missed at least 2 out of not many attempts.
-
Didn't Downing miss about 4 or 5 in one season for 'Boro? I'm sure I remember him missing a couple in one game or missing in consecutive games.
If Carew was playing every game I would give him the job, as he probably won't I would give it Ireland.
-
ashley young or i would give it to downing.
-
Personally, I love Carew's approach to penalties. He just thwacks it with so much power it's untrue. Too many penalties now-a-days are placed ... and boring!
I get the feeling that if any goal keeper did get a hand to one of big John's penalties then it'd cause a bit of damage.
-
I want a power penalty taker not a pussy foot tap kicker.
-
John " Blast the shit out of it " Carew.
I'd keep Ashley away from it.
-
Cuellar
-

I'd keep Ashley away from it.
Carew has a better hit rate than Angel had. Give it the big man
-
I cant imagine Gabby being any good at penalties whatsoever.
-
Carew all day ................
-
Carew if on the pitch, if not Ashley Young seems a safe bet.
-
I'll go with that too.
-
Those backing A Young - on what basis are you advocating him? Just because he's a forward with a bit of skill? Have you not seen some of the absolutely shit penalties he's taken for us? What is it 3 out of 4 or 5 he's missed? Has to be Carew if he's on the pitch, otherwise I'd be tempted to let Dunne blast them in.
-
Carew then Downing then either Warnock or Ireland (if he's any good, I dunno.)
-
The older ones amongst us, alright very older ones, will remember Stan Lynn taking penalties! I think the goalkeepers prayed he wouldn't hit it straight down the middle! He also blasted them in from short corners. It was a brave, or stupid, defender who got in his way when they saw him thundering in. The ball was heavier then as well so was like a cannon ball at the feet of Stan Lynn.
-
Ash missed one against Rapid last season.
-
Does anyone know if Ireland takes a good penalty?
Carew is the obvious choice, but will we see enough of him once Gabby is fit if we're going with a 4-4-1-1?
-
Ashley's got his swagger back, get him on them if Johnny ain't on the field.
-
Who the hell's going to take it if we get one tonight??
-
why not warnock ??
and delph should play more often with milner gone
but i would let carew or petrov
-
Warnock
-
Carew.
If not then Downing as he took a few at Boro. Did ireland take any at City?
-
I'd like to see what gabby is like. He usually gets 10-15 goals a season without penalties so the opportunity to bag 5 more goals a season could elevate him from a good striker to a great striker, in people's perceptions at least.
I think this boost in confidence would help his game no end.
Of course, if he's bobbins at it then Carew (if playing), Petrov or Ireland should be given a crack.
-
After the newcastle match, anyone but Carew. That was awful and, to make it worse, the miss has buggered his game right up.
-
The ''hit it as hard as you physically can'' routine falls down when you don't account for aim. From Yorkie's cheeky dink to Carew's piledriver we've certainly seen the spectrum of penos.
-
I'd go for Ireland. He can place a ball anywhere he wants.
-
I'm actually surprised Ash didn't take it, or even Downing. I think that's the last we've seen of Carew from 12 yards mind you.
-
Dan Carter
-
I always worry about both Carew and Young's mental states, they seem a bit fragile and prone to overthinking. Maybe Petrov? He's calm under pressure.
-
I think Ashley should take them. His conversion rate so far is shit but so was Yorke's at first... his technique is good enough to make him a regular penalty scorer. I have been saying for a while that Carew's "whack it and hope" was more luck than judgement.
-
We haven't got one !
I'd have gone with JC before today, but my oh my.
New striker = new penalty taker.
No Manager = no new striker.
Dear me.
-
Bring back Bouma!
-
Our new #9.

Come on down Keane

Our new #9.
Ireland then?
-
Carew's penalty has just landed in my back garden
-
Didn't Barry sky a penalty at that end a few years ago?
I'd give it to Downing tbh, a few more goals will boost his confidence and he was decent at them at Boro I think.
-
Next penalty taker? Not Petrov after tonight.....Grrrrr
-
james collins for me.
-

Agree.
-
How come Heskey doesn't take pens. As a centre foreward you would think they would be first choice. I'd offer the next one to Ireland.
-
Before tonight, I'm pretty sure I said Petrov.
What's strange is, as he stepped forward, to a chorus of "on no"s from VillaVA, I knew exactly where he was going to put it and that it would be saved. So I wasn't even surprised or really disappointed when it happened.
James Collins next please.
-
For a collection of full time professional footballers, our penalties are a disgrace. What in heaven's name do they do at Bodymoor in order to select the taker? It's a joke.
-
Haven't a clue forpemalty taker but the ballboy in Holte/Trinity corner is
more accurately than most of the first team ............he got the Rapid gk
full in the face as the guy was lying on the turf - biggest cheer of the night
-
Where's savo milosevic when you need him?

I wonder if he got in trouble for that. Th kid did seem to celebrate the hit
As for the penalty taker. Mine's another vote for Collins. I prefer the unsubtle "smack it one" approach
-
Albrighton anyone? Abit young just a thought!
-
but i would let carew or petrov
Oh dear
-
Ireland is possibly worth a shout. Downing has the technical attributes but I'm not sure he has the mental ones
-
I'd still back Carew if on the pitch. He's only missed one hasnt he? And the successful ones were clincally despatched. Barry hit a similarly crap one at Newcastle a few seasons ago, it's going to happen from time to time when you hit them hard. But I still prefer the power approach to these namby pamby placed ones that always the keeper a chance if he goes the right way.
-
Carew missed a couple last season. There was a feature about it in one of the progs - Valencia, I think.
-
Really? I dont recall them. Who against? Was there one against Reading perhaps?
-
He missed one against Portsmouth.
-
Carew's penalties at VP are really confident, less so away from home where he's missed against Pompey and Barcodes.
I would give them now to Downing personally.
