Martin is tinkering with the site as we speak, so if anybody has any issues, let us know, as there are bound to be minor teething problems.

As I said elsewhere I can't jump from one forum to another. Is it designed like that?

Not sure how this looks on a computer (the samples I've seen before looked very good), but it's somewhat difficult om my phone. May be I need time to get used or some fine tunning. Are there any special settings for mobile use?

I like the look of it, my only quibble would be that when you submit a post it doesn't display it immediately just brings up the forum list.

The one thing I don't like is that on threads that have lots of pages (eg - the Transfer Rumours thread) you can either select the first 3 pages, or the last page. When you've been offline a few hours you know that thread will have jumped a few pages so it's nice to head straight back 3 pages from the end.

I was going to point out that if you click the ... between the numbers it expands the pages out. Good for smaller ones but needs to be clicked several times for all the other big ones like the Milner Novel.

There is still another 5/6 hours of 'work' still to do on this site, keep posting any questions, as it helps when l have missed something out.

If l don't answer your particular question, it's only because l am working on the settings etc.

In the line that starts "Started by..." can you change the page number listing so that it displays the last three pages as well as the first three? Helps when a topic has surged suddenly.

If you click into the topic, the last three pages are selectable. Alternatively clicking on the ... expands the pages for selection

True, but it still doesn't expand the last few. It'd be slightly more convenient to be able to click on page 1,957 of the transfer thread rather  than 1,960 and click again. Lazy me!

What was wrong with the old one? I miss our colour scheme.

Is there a ''Show all posts since your last visit'' and ''Show all your posts'' option? Can only see an unread posts option which I'm not sure why anyone would use.

On the plus side, I'm loving the stats per user, where you can see what parts of the site you spend most time in. Though I'm not quite sure how it thinks I spend most of my time in ''Announcements''.

My 'Most Popular Boards by Posts' only adds up to 1,127 but I have more than 6,500 posts?

Does 'Most Popular Boards By Activity' count what percentage of posts you have contributed to that forum... or what percentage of your posts are in that section? I have 25% of the Potteries Villains section and I live in Yardley.

I hope nobody reads my time of posts or they will work out I never post before 10 o clock... lazy bastard that I am!

Sorry can't reproduce that, any particular post/topic?

Check the post you think the text isn't there, are you sure you replied at the end of the quote, as sometimes you need to scroll down to get to the end of a quote in the reply box.

Go back and look at that post, did you write

"Not in my opinion, I don't rate Wright-Phillips at all, I'd rather give Albrigton a go. I rate Downing over Wright-Phillips aswell. He's not needed."

Which would indicate, you didn't go down to the bottom of the post you were quoting.

When you press quote the cursor doesn't go to the end of the quote itself, like it did on the previous forum, but to the bottom of the box in the "Quick Reply" section, meaning you have to double check and move the cursor down. I know it's only a small matter in the grand scheme of things, but it's a bit annoying. Can that be changed?

I've had a play in profile settings and put the quick reply as off for default, that seems to have done the trick.

I also like that I can increase the amount of posts per page, it reduces the amount of pages for a thread (eg, I have 25 per page so the Transfer thread is currently 341 pages) and therefore less likely that there'll be a big jump in pages whilst I'm offline.

Like most people I'm sure it'll take me a while to get used to it and figure it out, but it's looking good. As always Martin, thanks for the hard work you (and the rest of the team) have put in.

Overall, I like it, but it would be nice if new posts were a bit more obvious. I liked the old claret diamonds.

And it would also be nice if when you click on the '...' when expanding the page numbers, that it either expanded all page numbers at once, or at least expanded them backwards from the last page, rather than forwards from the first. If that makes sense.

I appreciate the hard work you guys do with the site, been reading H&V forever... but I have to admit I don't like the new  format. I find the colour scheme very dull and it's harder to read. It's also harder to notice who's posting and takes more effort. I think a lot is to do with the colour scheme though.

A large number of our users look at H&V from work (it is where l do a lot of work on here) so a less 'in your face' theme is required. Too much claret and blue does not make a good theme, and it is hard to come up with a colour scheme that pleases everyone.

We are always open to suggestions regarding the colours or anything else.

I'm getting used to it. Like the new home kit in many ways, I wasn't keen to begin with but it's growing on me. It's been mentioned before, I don't like the fact that after a post it takes you to the main page rather than keeping you in the thread that you are working in. It may be my monitor but the claret looks mauve, but other than that it will be a good change.

Thanks for that Martin.  Like others I found the warning really annoying, and on days like today I was having to click 'post' 6 or 7 times because so many people were posting.  I could foresee the same problem happening on match threads. Profile now amended so hopefully problem solved

I must say I did have a little peek at VillaTalk. I thought it might be interesting in a 'feeding time at the zoo' sort of way, but the site kept crashing.

So instead I made my own Villa Talk Simulator. Basically I kept calling myself a wanker for twenty minutes then issued me with a yellow card.

Clicking the orange ''new'' icon next to a topic in which you've posted in seems to act as a bookmark - taking you to the next post after the last one you'd read on that particular thread so no need for scrolling back and trying to remember what bit of what page you were on.

If I'm correct in saying this, it's probably the sexiest bit of forum usefulness I've yet seen. Fantastic!

I didn't look at this thread again after my original post of yesterday. Something must have distracted me.

I've changed the setting now. However, I don't like the fact that I had to "tick a negative" to do it. A "tick box" should relate to a positive statement IMO

eg "Show warnings ........" rather than "Don't show warnings............"

When I post a reply, or quote a reply, the panel goes off-screen to the right by about 14 characters and I cannot see what is being written.

I don't know whether this has happened to anybody else.

Could it be a browser problem. I am on my work's ancienct IE6 browser.

Was just trying to find a way of doing this too.

I think the Statement by Randy Lerner that currently appears at the top of the thread and just below » Heroes & Villains » Announcements » Post reply ( Re: New site ) is appropriate at the moment, but having it appear on every screen twice is a bit annoying. I'm sure it's just another of martin's many WIPs however.

If we were to keep one as default, I prefer the one adjacent to Heroes Links and embedded in the box. Would mean much less wasted space at the top of the screen.

Just found where I can change options to 'return to this topic' and get rid of the quick reply box too. Very happy.

In the top right hand corner (to the right hand side of the Heroes & Villains logo) you will see some faint arrows - try clicking them.

It does indeed, although it also hides my user name and the options to show the unread posts since last visit and new replies to your posts. Hmmmm, decisions, decisions.

I assumed the little minus above the notification box that remains might remove the second "Login Problems" message but that actually removes all the banners on the left-hand side of the page. Hmmmm, further decisions, decisions.

What I was actually coming back in to ask (and suspect I might have asked this years ago on another version of the forum) was whether there's any way for you of forcing the username to appear directly above their individual quote as opposed to all at the start of a quoted conversation? I assume not and that it's one of the software's few evils, but thought I'd ask all the same.

Oh and any idea why when quoting the end quote command always appears on the line after the last bit that's been typed? It doesn't appear to have the same effect as in the forum's last incarnation and quotes do seem to be a lot tighter and cleaner so far, but was just something else I noticed.

I am looking at including the replies/posts since last visit information in the 'user info' box in the left hand panel, as l want the top of the forum just to have the banner in.

Any chance of having threads with new posts in them being bold type face again? The yellow NEW icons, because they're not aligned centrally in a column and are at the end of varying length thread names becomes difficult for the eye to track where I should click to read unread messages.

Can we have an easier way of navigating to the next/previous page in a thread rather than having to click on the page number? At the mo, the "previous, next" links as for the threads themselves, not pages within the same thread. Just a little thing, but quite annoying! Otherwise, top marks for the new look!

There are no settings within the software for 'next page', as clicking [new] at the end of tread title takes you to either a)the start of the thread or b)to the last page you looked at in the thread, in most cases you would then only need to go on a couple of pages by using the numbers.

Hi, On the old board there was a section you could click through to which contained the threads that you had contributed to.  Can you  tell me if this is still available please?  Thanks.
(I copied this from 'Bungle' - thanks to you)

Top left under Banner - Show new repliews to your posts

If it is not there then you have 'collapsed' the top of the forum, to open click arrows in the top right hand corner.

Great work guys and seems a lot faster for me. Couple of things.

1. Is there a mobile front end available, or is that in the pipeline?
2. Still seems a little "Purple" to me. Are we reflecting the Training Kit ;D

Oh no... Bob's thread's gone!

Like a few others I don't seem to be able to 'modify' my posts in GM Forum after posting them. I can quote but not modify, and I can report myself to a moderator!

Report to Moderator?

That's a new one for me!

I also can't modify my posts in GM. I am guessing (as I'm sure I saw Peter W say the same thing in GM) that it's a problem across the board and will be worked on soon enough.

You only have a short ammount of time after initially posting in which to go back and edit your post.

How do you embed YouTube videos in a post?

I was about to ask the same. When the site first moved you only had to put the URL in and it automatically did it, now it doesn't.

Copy url link into post, highlight link and select 'youtube' from above posting box, it will then look something like this:

[y##tube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz-sC-vSIXk[/youtube]

Check it with [Preview] then [Post]

A minor quibble with the Wap site. When you select reply to a post you still have to put a thread title in... it defaults to the last one you used. It would be better if you only had to bother putting a thread title in when starting a new topic. Also, I don't think polls work on it properly.

Martin, my pm facility doesn't seem to be working. When I enter the receivers name and then move down to the subject box the name appears below the receivers box with a red square and x in it. This happens when receiver is either online/offline. Its doin my nut in.

As Legion said "nothing" that is how it is supposed to work, by dropping the name below it allows you to send the same message to another user by entering their name. The red x deletes the name if required.

PM's are not saved automatically, you have to check the 'save to sent' (or whatever it says) under the box where you are typing your PM.

Is it possible to change the way the 'quote' thing works? I ask as it's slightly annoying at the moment that the post you want to quote appears in the quick reply box rather than the full reply option and therefore putting a link or putting something in bold or italics is a pain.

Plus it may stop many of the errors appearing when people type in a space not realising there is more to the original post and thereofre their reply reply appears halfway through the quote.

It's a setting in your profile. The downside is the quick reply box is not obvious then.

The setting is under the Look and Layout and there is an option on Use Quick Reply on Topic Display. Set it to show but off by default and you when you quote the old quoting style returns. Can still make mistakes there though of course.

'Muppet Hero' status is awarded to a user who for some reason has been a major help to the forum, it is of no fixed term and is decided on by the 'Admins'.

No more users have been given the wording 'Golden Muppet' other than those at present (although everyone who has donated should be able to see the GM forum), as l am still working on another way of implementing it without having to do every user one at a time.

Hi Martin,

I think I may have come up with a cool idea to help the addicted* but terminally lazy poster, like me.

You know the thread icon on the thread title strap, on the LHS next to where it says 'Author'?

Would it be possible to use a similar arrangement as on the menu of thread lists, where there's a little square spot on it if it's a thread you've contributed to?

Just wondering...some threads get drawn into very similar content after a few pages and it would be handy to be able to see whether you've ranted on that one yet at a glance rather than going back a few pages or leaving the thread to call up the old profile...!

Don't know how possible this is, but it would be great if you could do it.

That's me! I was just stating I am no longer Big Dick, just a regular Dick.  ::)

Has anybody else had the same problem or is it just me?

What l was getting at was, did you actually type 'Big Dick Edwards' or just 'Big Dick' ?

Sorry, came across this post while idly browsing. Couldn't resist.
