Being totally positive from the outset, here is what we will be competing for in Dublin on 18th May 2011.

Bring it on......
-
I want to play Celtic.
we would've last season if we'd only beaten Rapid Fucking Vienna.
-
Final in Dublin.
What an incentive.
-
I'd like to think we can do well this season. The competition may even move up our priority list if we have a bad start to the season.
Either way, I would take the knock out round seriously as I think the kids need the opportunity to play in the group games, especially any games were the result is less important.
Bring it on.
-
Could do with a home first leg... we have a long trip to Newcastle after the first game.
TNS please.
-
Motherwell would be good.
-
Do the extra officials come into effect straight away or is that only in the Group Stage?
-
I do get excited still about Villa being in european football, I love looking at those grand names we might end up playing downVP and the teams I have never heard of ..
Im just hoping certain people feel the same....
-
Final in Dublin.
What an incentive.
It'd be almost too perfect for me!
Looking forward to the draw. It's the one thing that is giving something (villa related) to really look forward to!
-
Is there any kind of seeding in this round? There are loads of teams I don't fancy playing at this stage - Juve, Liverpool, Citeh, any Spanish, German, French or Russian team, etc.
TNS would be perfect!!
-
Didn't realise the final is in Dublin. What an incentive. Is it at the new Lansdowne Road stadium?
-
We face one of the following (if the seeding on Wiki is correct)...
Unseeded Teams
Anorthosis (Cyprus)
Aris Thessaloniki (Greece)
Brøndby (Denmark)

Vaslui (Romania)
Lech Poznań (Poland)
Trabzonspor (Turkey)
Sibir Novosibirsk (Russia)

TNS would be perfect!!
I've stopped being lazy and looked it up. Turns out we're seeded and there aren't too many unseeded teams I fear (or have heard or for that matter)!
-
Sibir Novosibirsk
Tavriya Simferopol
I feel sorry for the stadium announcer if we draw either of them!
-

Have you heard of Rapid Vienna or Trabzonspor?
-
Qarabag please..Heskey even might score
-
Sibir Novosibirsk
Tavriya Simferopol

Ah, ah, nice touch mate.
I also would like to play Celtic. . .
-
We face one of the following (if the seeding on Wiki is correct)...
Unseeded Teams
Maccabi Tel Aviv (Palestine)
Your addition or do they list like that on the UEFA site? ;-)
-
Gent would make for a good away leg.
-
Omonia - bet their ground stinks.
Remember the last minute away goals defeat to Trabzonspor? That registered about an 8.9 on the seat slamming and kick the holte gates scale.
-
Didn't realise the final is in Dublin. What an incentive. Is it at the new Lansdowne Road stadium?
Yes, don't worry it's not in Dalymount park!
-
Can we get someone good and get knocked out?
It would mean that we dont have to play lots of games with the same 12 players. We don't have to think we can compete in it only to throw it away because we are playing stoke. And we dont have to waste money on tickets, shit food and drink!
Cool.
-
We face one of the following (if the seeding on Wiki is correct)...
Unseeded Teams
Maccabi Tel Aviv (Palestine)
Isn't the removal of anything Jewish a little bit 1930s?
-
What are the chances of us playing Celtic with the Manager changing clubs between the two legs?
-
Bratislava would be a great trip. Winnable game, and a lovely city.
-

The old myth that opposition to the State of Israel makes one anti-Semitic. Yawn.
-
Bloody double posts.... rubbish internet connection
-
Didn't realise the final is in Dublin. What an incentive. Is it at the new Lansdowne Road stadium?
Yes, its the new AVIVA stadium. However because of Uefa regulations it cannot be marketed using this name for the final. details here:-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aviva_Stadium
-
Do the extra officials come into effect straight away or is that only in the Group Stage?
Extra officials will not be used in the play off round being drawn today but will be used from the group games onwards.
http://www.uefa.com/uefa/footballfirst/matchorganisation/refereeing/news/newsid=1506902.html#uefa+welcomes+ifab+referee+trial+decision
The experiment will apply to all UEFA Champions League matches from the play-off round next month until May 2012; all UEFA Europa League matches from the forthcoming group stage (starting in September 2010) until May 2012; and the 2010 and 2011 UEFA Super Cup games between the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League titleholders.
-
Gent would make for a good away leg.
Gent, Genk, or Utrecht for me. A nice drive and a ferry trip.
Failing that Motherwell, Dundee United or TNS.
Anything else means flying and hotels so I pray we get through and wait for the group games.
-
Either of the Scottish teams would do nicely. Would rather stop in Dundee than Motherwell mind.
-
TNS please.
-
The seeding groups have been updated on the UEFA site.
We can face these 6 teams:
SK Rapid Wien (AUT)
FC Sibir Novosibirsk (RUS)
CS Marítimo (POR)
ŠK Slovan Bratislava (SVK)
HJK Helsinki (FIN)
The New Saints FC (WAL)
-
Qarabag please..Heskey even might score
I hope they sign him then and its only a consolation goal.

We do owe Rapid Vienna one. It has to be TNS out of that little lot. That would be awesome.
-
Didn't we play Slovan as the first game back in Europe after the ban?
-
Would hope to avoid the Portuguese out of those - think they're pretty useful.
-
Didn't we play Slovan as the first game back in Europe after the ban?
That was Banik Ostrava. We played Slovan Bratislava is 1993/94.
-
TNS please.
When having a European away game, it would be nice to head East. Heading West for a European tie just seems wrong.
Its a bit like my Dad's national service. They said, "right, you'll be away from home for two years, where would you prefer to go". He said, "might as well be the Far East then."
Where did he end up? That's right, two years in Rhyl !!!
-
With TNS it would be weird going to an 'away' European Tie that was still in this country.
Wonder if Rapid are hoping to draw us?
-
Flight prices quite dear for most places. Hope for TNS then
-
I bet TNS are hoping its us out of that little lot. Away leg at Wrexham I assume if its them, which means theres terracing available !
-
Dundee Utd please - my Mum was born and bred in Dundee, love going up there...just 10 miles from St Andrews (the palatable one) so we can organise an H&V golf outing too!

FC Sibir Novosibirsk (RUS)
CS Marítimo (POR)
ŠK Slovan Bratislava (SVK)
HJK Helsinki (FIN)
The New Saints FC (WAL)
-
Really hoping for TNS!-the away leg would be played at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.
Sibir Novosibirsk is the one to avoid as it would involve a 6500 mile round trip into deepest Russia.

Totally agree, one of my work collegues is Slovakian, so he'll know all the decent bars to go pre-match.

bit much of a draw is it when you can only get one of six clubs.
wouldn't fancy the Russians, too far and too many bad memories.
bring on the Welsh.
-
FC Sibir Novosibirsk would definitely not have a full strength team out - it's practically Mongolia!
To then come back and play Newcastle - No.

Great, lets have an argument about whether people thinks of themselves first and foremost English/Welsh or British. Whether we consider the country to be England or the United Kingdom. The draw doesnt start for another 50 minutes.

In other news. Spurs get Young Boys so unfortunatley it looks like they will be in the group stages now.

Carmarthen Town 0
Haverfordwest County 0
Llanelli AFC 0
Neath FC 0

Wrexham's virtually Liverpool.
But with a bit more class
-
I can see it being Novosibirsk for us. Just a feeling.
3200-and-something miles as the crow flies according to Google Earth, even further than Khazakhstan.
And I remember everyone thinking Trabzonspor of Turkey was a long way then we played them in 1994.
Although on the plus side, if we did draw Novosibirsk, it'd be just as long a journey for them as for the Villa.
-
They're Scouse up in Wrexham, bunch of oiks.

They played Man City and Liverpool at the Millennium Stadium. Perhaps they'd play us there too. Oh, and they are a horrible club who have bought success and moved their team away from the few fans they had. They not have no fans apart from a man dressed as a giant spotted dog.
-
Would like TNS but think we'll get Bratislava, didn't we play them in the 90s.
Please not Vienna again.
-
Do we have to listen to all that waffling?
-
Cowering behind the cloak of anti-Zionism to hide anti-Semitism. Yawn
As an aside, isn't convicting someone of rape by deception because he didn't tell the woman he was an arab a little 1930's as well? Or is that being anti-semitic as well?
Sorry for the wildly off topic point. Ghent for me.
-
How bad is this, I've got to get ready for a funeral but am logged onto here to find out immediately something I'd find out later anyway.
-
Hurry up and draw Villa's group please.
-
who have we got?
someone put me out of my misery
-
It's like watching paint dry.
-
What the hell are a club in Siberia and thefore North Asia doing in the Europa League?
Aktobe of Kazakhstan are also in the draw.
They were all in the Soviet Union of course, who were in UEFA.
-
Villa are in pot 6, patience !
-
who have we got?
someone put me out of my misery
we've not been drawn out yet.
It's a very laborious draw.
-
HJK Helsinki please :)
-
We've still got all video streaming disabled at work because they couldn't trust us during the world cup.
-

Man United away of corse.

That'll be a tester for Lplop
-
Liverpool v Trabzonspur (sp)
-
Liverpool v Trabzonspor
Nice!
-
Liverpool have to go to Turkey to play Trabzon. They should get through that, but happily they won't enjoy it.
-
Celtic v Utrecht
-
I'd hate to be sat in front of the commentator, he's giving it the full spittle producing pronunciation for most of these names
-
2 represenatives from 74 clubs across europe and beyond, that a big carbon footprint. They could have all stayed home and watched it they way we are.
-
Yay, us.
-
Here we go..
-
Vienna again!
-
Vienna again!
-
Here we go..
-
Rapid Vienna again?
-
Rapid Vienna again
-
Revenge!
-
Oh ARSE.
-
So Rapid Vienna AGAIN!
-
Bugger
-
grudge game, revenge.
-
Feck, not them again
-
Shit, see you next year.
-
Hmmmmm.
-
Fucking hell.
-
Fucking Vienna again!
-
Brilliant. That's just what we need. A chance to repeat the same humiliation.
Mind you, they didn't look too happy to be playing us, did they? I suppose nobody really wanted this.
-
oh fuckin' vienna
-
"U.r.e." kidding me !!
NB - had to put the dots in or it comes up as Utd
-
Just said to my mate "We don't want Rapid." bang, Rapid. Typical.
-
Rapid Vienna again!
-
De ja vu.
-
Don't mind that too much. We lost because we were rubish defensively last year. We'll do them, plus we'll be more on our guard against them this time around.
-
... at least MoN can get his excuses ready.
-
Is Albrighton on the bench?
-
Pissed off, not going there again.
-
Looking forward to having their fans at our place again, hopefully our lot can create a good atmosphere as well this time.
-
It means nothing to me
-
At least their fans were entertaining.
We'll do em this time.
-
Hopefully we've learned our lessons and can see them off this time. Be nice to at least make it as far as the group stages this season.
-
Oh fuck off with the negativity, they're a load of mediocre gash that bested us in a hangover from a slump.
At least we know where all the bars are this time.
-
im well pleased we have a chance to put the wien guys away this year.
MON dont screw it up again, that was my mrs first villa game and we left totally gutted
-
Fancy us to beat them this time.
-
The away leg first I presume? Which means I can't go because I am on a course.
-
Home or away first?
My laptop crashed on me just as the draw way being made.
-
It means I can go to the home leg as I will be holiday for the first leg good news for me !!
-
Looks like away first.
Can't go, got tickets for the oval on 20th.
-
Be positive.
Ive got 18th May 2011 in Dublin pencilled in my diary.
-
Good. I was hoping to get them again. Although I dont give much of a toss about this competition, I'd like to see us get some revenge at least.
-
away
-
Where are all the cheap flights?
-
Looks like away first.
Can't go, got tickets for the oval on 20th.
We're not booking ours till 3:00 as they may well swap fixtures the guy said. We've got Newcastle on the weekend so there's a chance that this may happen.
-
It means nothing to me.
-
Ah, thanks for that Ads. As I posted earlier, my laptop crashed as we were being drawn (is that a sign?) so missed all that.
-
Well at least all the female fans will get a good eyeful of all that Austrian flesh on show during the syncronised chanting.
-
Flights coming in at £170 area from Brum to Vienna but thats with stop over in Zurich and also shite flight time coming back (6:55am). Can fly direct from Gatwick with Easyjet, same price, good times.
Anyone else found anything?
Villa website seems to think away leg first, no mention of possible swap.
-
Quite pleased with the draw. Wanted to avoid a trip to Russia and Maritimo.
Would have preferred TNS, but ah well.
Will be fun seeing their mental fans again too.
-
Choreographed tossers.
-
I hope our players are more optimistic that some of you lot. We got beaten last year. So what? That was last year, and it's Rapid Vienna, not Real Madrid. This is a great opportunity for us to make things right.
-
Pleased it's Rapid. Had to pull out last year from making the trip due to a friend's funeral. Looking forward to it .
-
So does this mean we will get man u in the 2 cups as well?
-
So we're playing the same team, with probably the same players (except Milner), at the same ground on the same night as last year? I'll be at Reading festival again, watching it on same TV in the same pub, probably standing in the exact same spot at the bar.
So much for progress.
-

Dunne, Collins, Warnock?
-
Dunne, Collins, Warnock?
Of course, we signed them after that didn't we. It's still an odd coincidence.
-
Isn't it something like an extra 19 games if you want to win this competition?
Knowing MON the twat he'd play the same 11 with his precious Cuellar, Heskey, Petrov and Downing for every game.
-
Moan moan bloody moan. Its just the luck of the draw, but hey lets blame Martin bloody ONeill for us getting Rapid bloody Vienna again.
-
Agreed.
-
I am quite looking forward to it, their fans sure were noisy and put us to shame.
-
I am quite looking forward to it, their fans sure were noisy and put us to shame.
Sing a bit louder then
-
Hope we beat the feckers this time, they are meant to be a very quick team this lot.
-
I haven't had the internet at work all day and my first reaction is, are you having a f***ing laugh?

I thought the Reading festival is Friday/Saturday/Sunday, so surely you wouldnt be there when we're playing Vienna?

Rapid Vienna again! I swore so loudly in the car driving back from a funeral that I could be heard by most of Aldridge.

Just a wild guess but I think that was a joke. wink.

That was my friends reaction when I text him.
Of all the teams and we draw them again!!!!
-
At least we're playing at home for the second leg.
-
At least we're playing at home for the second leg.
Just like last time!!

Didn't make much difference last time, did it?

The match is Thursday night again isn't it? You need to get there the day before to set your tents and that up.
-
Are Rapid really that good? I mean Villa have been a little bit hot n cold last season. You never know we might beat them 7 - 1 this time round or somethin'.
-

fair play, i've never been before myself, and i only know people who have been for a single day.
-
I went to the Reading festival in 1978, it didnt stop me from seeing us win at Spurs 4-1 on the Wednesday, watching England v New Zealand at the Oval on the Thursday, and popping out from the festival to see us lose 1-0 at Bristol City on the Saturday afternoon. You young uns want to get yourselves organised !

rapid is not that good. they are losing their only striker who is, and was, able to score, nikica jelavic. the rangers are more than interested in buying him and if he's playing for rapid international once again, he won't be allowed to play international for the rangers. defence is real shite, midfield and strikers young and without any international experience. its going to be a walkover this year.
-
There's no way we're losing to these retards again, revenge will be sweet (hopefully).

You have just joined and looking at your grammar I am suspicious that you may be a Rapid fan trying to lull us into a false sense of security.
Well theres no chance of that, have you seen how pessimistic half the people on this site are ?
-
does this really make sense? why should I try to lull you into a false sense of security? You don't know both rapid and villa, do you? I do and I'm looking forward to see both games in Vienna and Birmingham and - I really enjoyed standing in the Holte End last year. To make it clear I'm not supporting rapid.
and no one here in vienna believes that there's a chance to beat villa again. on the pitch - most of them are just looking forward to make a noise in B'ham!
-
Welcome to H&V Apercus. Looking forward to you guiding us in Vienna. "False sense of security" comment by A L in the air is in jest
-
Balls! oh well let's make amends.
-
So does this mean they came third or fourth in the Austrian league last season again? Surely we'll have learnt our lesson this time.
-
Can anyone remember whether the tickets for the away leg made it to 'booking history' or 'general sale' last year?
I'd check the relevant old thread but it appears to have been deleted.

Young?! If only.
I drove back from Reading a day early for MON's second home game (was it Newcastle?) in 2006. Bit pointless buying a weekend ticket and missing the Sunday but sometimes you have to make vital sacrifices. The previous year I spent most of the weekend in the nearest pub, watching the 4th test at Trent Bridge!

Just booked my Easyjet flight from Gatwick to Vienna. Between my setting out for the Valencia game yesterday afternoon and getting home last night it had gone up £50, so don't leave it too late if you're using this route.
-
We're going from Gatwick too, flying on the 18th back on the 20th.
-
I'm flying out Wed 17.20 and back Fri 11.20. You?

Last year went to general sale, but the club will want a sample of your DNA.

We sold about 300, if you want a ticket you will get one regardless.

I'm bricking it, when you hear the team of Guzan, Beye, Davis, Dunne, L.Young, NRC, Petrov, Albrighton, Downing, Heskey and Fonz...
I think the thing to do is secure the competition then start throwing in the kids and not so regular squad afterwards, gives them games and takes the pressure off of our regular 11 having to perform so often. I'd like to say anyone who shines could then move up to get premiership games, but both we and MON know that'll never happen.
-
Yeah we're on the 17:20 out as well. Not sure when on Friday we're coming back.
-
well I'm looking forward to the home leg as I went to the last one and was very impressed by the Vienna fans numbers and willingness to have a good sing.
though I dissaprove of fans being dictated as what to sing by some half stripped 'ultra'-spontaneity and wit is the best and only way for me!

Coming back on the 21.10 flight mate ;-)

Hopefully more than 20,000 will turn up for the tie this season.

Hmmm. Only got allocation of 400. Starting to get a bit nervous about tickets. Especially as my brother has now also booked up to join us.

I supported MON over Moscow, but at the same time, having gone to all the home EL matches that season, from Odense onwards, I wasn't going to fall into the same trap again and waste money that time around, so dodged the Rapid tie. I imagine there were a few who did the same.
-
Anyone know whether the kick-off time for the home tie has been decided yet? I can't find anything on the new OS.

I couldn't find it either. The away leg is probably on the tv as it's a 17.45 (our time) 18.45 (Vienna).

It is - it's just been advertised as being on ITV4 from 5.30.
