Thank you - great site.
Was also thinkin about West Ham home 86 as I recently met up with a girl I should have been with that night.
Hadn't realised that 'he'd' scored both goals!
March 86
19.03-H West Ham 2-1 Hodge 2
Followed by...........
22.03-H Birmingham 0-3
Followed by 'him' again.
29.03-A Manchester C 2-2 Hodge, Stainrod
-
25.04.1987 H West Ham 4-0 Hunt, Aspinall 2, Stainrod
Might be thinking about this night actually........

That was an afternoon game.

I swapped some Panini stickers that day as there was a special on at the Villa. (25.04.87)

Were we not already down then?

Does this squad list from Spurs 01 give anyone else a slightly warm feeling of recollection too?
A number of pretty decent VILLA MEN in there for my book.
Schmeichel
Delaney
Alpay
Mellberg
Wright
Merson
Boateng
Hendrie
Kachloul
Angel
Vassell
Ginola
Hadji
Stone
Plus:
Balaban
Staunton
Dublin
Samuel
Taylor
Barry
Enckelman
Hitzlsperger
Crouch

We started that season really well with Hadji looking sharp in midfield, Mellberg looking class and Angel and Vassell a dangerous partnership.

My first away game, many, many thousands of pounds ago!

No. Before kick off we had four games left and had to win them all to have any hope of staying up without having to go through the play-offs (which at the time pitched fourth bottom in Division One against 3rd, 4th and 5th from Division Two).

Ta Chris, were we down after though?

Ta Chris, were we down after though?
Not straight away. I think we lost at Arsenal the following week, meaning that we needed the play-offs to have any chance of staying up. We followed this on the Monday bank holiday by losing 2-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday, the result that sealed our fate.

Thanks, memory's been playing tricks on me.

PEDANTIC INTERRUPTION:
We could still mathematically have stayed up even then. The result that really sent us down was Oxford beating Leicester that night.
