Title: New Season Fixtures!
Post by: daniel050 on June 15, 2010, 04:53:28 PM
Our new season fixtures come out on Thursday!
http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/ClubNewsDetail/0,,10265~1693030,00.html

I don’t know why but this is always one of the days I look forward to most all year! I’m even going to sign up to text alerts, they’re sending fixtures and all transfer news on SMS, should keep me going until our first pre – season match!

And there hasn't even been one "my cousin's friends cleaner's cat's mate works at the FA, we've got West Ham away first game" post yet.  I blame the World Cup.

I can't say I want to play any of the promoted teams first game. Crest of a wave and all that.

Manure first please. They always start badly.

Don't want a promoted side.

Home on first day, Boxing Day and last day, away on New Year's Day please.

If we can't get Manure first I want to play all of the top four when the European season is still in full swing so they might rest players. Would be nice if we had some winnable fixtures at Christmas time for a change too.

We will have 'local' teams over Xmas due to lack of public transport. We won't play blues over Xmas or a bank holiday weekend due to police not wanting it with drinking etc. Blackpool away on a nice month- not midweek in January!
Title: New Season Fixtures!
Post by: frank on June 15, 2010, 08:31:38 PM
Let's hope we don't get ridiculous fixtures like Newcastle and Sunderland away midweek, which has happened quite a lot recently.

I am due to be on holiday for the 1st game of the season so if we can have a dull away game (by that I mean somewhere I have been a few times not Blackpool !)

Stay clear of away trips to promoted sides in August. And play Blose at home towards the end of April as per to send them home with their tales between their legs.

Meaningless of course until they have re-arranged all the fixtures. I made the mistake a year or two ago of writing them all into my diary when first announced, only to have to change almost every one. West Ham won't be easy with a new manager and given our difficulty in breaking such teams down last season - which I hope the coaching staff are working on over the summer....

Jon just phoned me about the fixtures and said the new July to June diaries should arrive today and I could put the fixtures in.  I said 'no way' these fixtures just tell us the order in which the games will be played not the actual dates.

Everton at home and Newcastle away could be tricky, but we should be confident of winning though.

Looks a good set of fixtures, with only Man City at home and Utd away in our period of uncertainty from Jan to April, even April looks winnable. decent fixtures to allow a flyer too, and we should have won the title by the time the last 2 fixtures arrive :)

December and New Year could be the deciders

Works well for the West Ham game as I'm at a wedding on the saturday but can't make the Everton game as I'm at Reading festival...unless they move it to a monday night of course!

Liking Stoke away early doors and also Arsenal away as the last away game of the season.

You mean the europa league qualifiers aren't until after the West Ham game? Oh shite....Newcastle away on a sunday then for you lucky folk...

That F.A cup final being on the same weekend as premier leauge games looks ridiculous...the FA have ballsed up by having the champions league final at Wembley so all the play-off finals have been mucked around aswell.

So, if we get to the Group stage, after our first eight European games we would have 2 home games and 6 aways, including the two longest trips, Newcastle and Sunderland.

Fergie would be going mad if it was their lot.

Its going to be cold in Blackpool in february

Plenty of slags to warm the fans up  ;-))

How very charming.

I found the above very amusing.

Blackpool away is three days before my birthday, so please feel free to buy me a beer, or some candy floss.

3 winnable games to start with. Very surprised that we're at home again.

HURRAY!

The opening fixture is on my birthday! :D AT HOME! WOOP!

But it will change to the Sunday because of the Europa.

Whey hey, that's my birthday.
Isn't the EL the following Thursday, Pauline? So Newcastle away would move to the Sunday.

I was also thinking this. I hope I'm wrong though, else I'll miss Hitz's return to VP, which is exactly what I didn't want to miss.
Just checked: EL is Aug 19 & 26, so Toon away and Everton home get moved

HURRAY !!

The opening fixture is STILL on my birthday!

FYI, I won't be buying anyone drinks.

Mwah ha ha ha!

At last a home Boxing day game and I can go to it.

As for man City entering the Europa league at the same stage as us, that's not right is it? i though as the 5th place team they entered straight into the league phase.

Finally I was going to make a jokey reference to us starting with Wigan last tear, this year West Ham, and next year the next team up alphabetically as we work our way through the league.

But looking at it maybe they did just go top team and bottom team at teh start (ish) and work around that. Unless that was a complete fluke, or random, they may have had 2 v 20, or 19 for the sake of convenience.

Anyay, I think its a pretty decent start to the season for us.

Just thought, went through games that I was interested in - the usual first few games, then Boxing day, and that was it. never once considered games v The Shit. I'll have a gawp now.

At least we play the Blues twice and before we have our March onwards collapse, that means we might beat them again.  Unfortunately by April when Albion are up, we will be fecked.

Is the FA Cup final really going to be in the middle of a full Premier league fixture programme, talk about downplaying the whole competition.

Man City enter at the same stage as us. Only the holders, Atletico Madrid, enter at the group stage.

It's because Real Madrid v Inter takes place at Wembley on 28th May, so they need as much time as possible to prepare the pitch.

Good to see a league game on New Year's Day again - probably cos it's a Saturday. I don't know why they stopped the tradition (our 2-1 win thanks to Mellberg and Laursen headers two and a half years ago was the last time we played on the first of the first). We usually play Blose away first followed by the return at VP in April so that's completely changed.

For years we never played at home on the opening day. The last couple of seasons now we'll have started and finished at home. Also, should we get into the Europa group stage, most of the games on the Thursday fall before subsequent away league games on the following weekend. Meaning there shouldn't be too many dicking about with Villa Park 3 o'clock Saturday games. Having said that, if we get to the knockout stages in the new year a lot of home league games will come after Wafer Cup matches.

Why are Blues visiting in October?!

It's a long held tradition that we beat them at home in April, thus making the last weeks of the season particularly unpleasant for them.

And think of this year, with people saying 'all we have left is to beat the scum'. We'll have to think of something else for next year...

Probably as recently it's been on a thursday or friday so not enough space before FA cup 3rd round weekend.

They should play all the league games on FA cup final weekend on the sunday or kick them off on the saturday at 12pm as 3pm should be sacrosant for the cup final.

When does ;

a) sky/espn announce fixture changes
b) the draw to find out which leg is home/away for EL play off take place
c) the club likely to show a new fixture list with correct dates on it

The answer to b) is August 6th. As for a) and c), we'll have the usual frustrating experience of not knowing when we're playing until a few weeks before. Even when we're in the EL on a Thursday, our league game won't necessarily be on the Sunday, as there will be a Monday evening game. Our last 2 league games at Newcastle - an excellent place to spend the weekend - have been midweek, and I'm just waiting for them to tell us that next season's game has been moved to the Monday.

There's only been one cup final since 1957, and the less said about that the better.

Well just for the fun of it, I might go for the lot and see how many I get right.

West Ham (H) 1-1
Newcastle (A) 0-0
Everton (H) 3-1
Stoke (A) 1-2
Bolton (H) 2-0
Wolves (A) 2-2
Tottenham (A) 2-0
Chelsea (H) 0-1
Sunderland (A) 0-1
Birmingham (H) 1-1
Fulham (A) 2-0
Blackpool (H) 3-0
Man Utd (H) 1-1
Blackburn (A) 0-0
Arsenal (H) 2-1
Liverpool (A) 3-1
West Brom (H) 3-0
Wigan (A) 0-2
Tottenham (H) 2-2
Man City (A) 2-1
Chelsea (A) 3-1
Sunderland (H) 0-0
Birmingham (A) 0-2
Man City (H) 1-0
Man Utd (A) 2-0
Fulham (H) 4-1
Blackpool (A) 0-2
Blackburn (H) 1-0
Bolton (A) 1-2
Wolves (H) 1-1
Everton (A) 2-2
Newcastle (H) 4-0
West Ham (A) 1-0
Stoke (H) 2-0
West Brom (A) 1-1
Wigan (H) 0-0
Arsenal (A) 2-0
Liverpool (H) 3-2
