Good find. Went there with my Dad. Luckily we were in the seats on the side where the cameras were.
Half time we felt like leaving bacause of all the trouble leaving a bad taste, we didnt of course.
If I recall most the Villa fans who had travelled over from england were packed into the side. The trouble was behind the goal with squaddies who were based in germany.

Well I started on the side but it was so packed we moved over behind the goal.I think The "trouble" was a combination of over zealous Belgian cops, the effects of Stella on our fans, lack of segregation, and as well as our "lads" there were some boys with us from Anderlechts rivals-Molenbeek-right skinheads they were. The squaddie was as I recall the one loon who ran into the penalty box and stopped play.Best away game and trip ever.

Does anyone remember that cartoon in the Evening Mail (I think) the day after, of the Argentinians in the Falklands and a Villa fan being parachuted in, "Oh no, they're dropping Villa fans!"?

I've got that somewhere. I think the term was 'hooligans' not 'fans'. Must dig it out.

We had a terrible journey over to the game and missed the first 20 minutes, then spent most of the rest of the game dodging the aggro and finally ended up staying over night in a great hotel and relived the whole match with several other stranded Villa fans.
As a result we spent extra and made the trip to Rotterdam a 4 day trip which made a great time fantastic.

Wasnt it touch and go for a while wheter we would be kicked out of the competition (and hence the final). Cant remember the exact story but didnt ted Croker at the FA have to argue on our behalf? seem to remember something about non-Villa hooligans travelling over to cause trouble which got us off the hook.

As i say cant really recall.

Dennis Howell, then-Shadow Sports Minister. The non-Villa supporters defence is one of the greatest myths in the history of football violence.

Part I around 8m 17sec middle of picture, green flight jacket, just to the left of the bloke in the old admiral England shirt, thats me. ( when I had hair ) As AlexAlex said a combination of over zealous Police and Stella. Plus being able to walk around the ground the day before and buy tickets for the home fans end, when it was obvious we were Villa fans.
