Does anybody know anything regarding Pre-Season friendlies for this summer? I haven't seen anything anywhere and was wondering if I had missed something?
Sorry if there's already a thread on this.
-
We're off to Portugal apparently.
-
Tamworth are playing Aberdeen but I don't suppose that was your qiustion.
-
Randy said we won't be playing in the USA and would likely stick to Europe.
-
I would be astounded if we didn't play a fairly well-known team at Villa Park in the fortnight before the season starts. In a friendly, that is, not a Europa League game.

Celtic, I heard.
-
i heard it was a spanish team
-
I would rather play a Spanish team. Less likely for us to get kicked off the park. Plus they would probably let us win, like Inter and Fiorentina did. Celtic would treat it like a proper game.
-
All very well but I prefer the away games at outposts like Lincoln and Peterborough.
-
I wonder if our Brian has approached the Villa to send a VillaXI to Gainsbrough Trinity? Nice little run out for the Stiffs/Yoofs.

I would like a combination. One glamorous home friendly. Loads of games at small seaside towns. Villa could play at Brighton, Plymouth, Blackpool (if they don't come up) while our reserves played the day after at Torquay, Havant or Fleetwood. So Villa fans could watch both games and have a nice seaside weekend too.
-
Id like a couple of games in Scotland. I try to get up there each year for a holiday. Great scenery, visits to distilleries.
Just dont let the midges fly up your claret and blue kilt, and dont bump into Deadly Doug doing his salmon fishing.
-
I hope we play Celtic. I might turn up in a Rangers shirt.
-
I'm hoping for somewhere exotic, like Walsall.

Nice work/holiday if you can get it!
I will be on the Isle of Wight!
-
Told ya' ;)
-
31st July/1st August Feyenoord on the Sat evening, Benfica on the Sunday evening. The town is right on the border with Spain on the banks of the Guadiana river. So its real border country, so a bit like playing at Berwick Rangers but sunnier.
I can find stuff about the town, but no references at all to any football in the town or this mysterious 11,000 capacity ground. Searches San Antonio stadium or San Antonio football send me to bloody texas !
-
Fantastic, Algarve, I will be there. Last season I missed the Peace cup cos I thought I will spend my money on a long Europa run.

You manage to hold onto money from a year ago ?
-
Lovely area, going there next week (via Perpignan and a night with Dazzler) but trust me, it'll be scorching hot that time of the year and absolutely humming with mozzies.
-
The stadium is the Complexo Desportivo de Vila Real de Santo António

Give BE my regards in that case Ian - we met up with him last summer when we were down near Perpignan...
-
Walsall have confirmed they will host Villa in pre-season as the Saddlers finalise their summer plans.
They welcome their Premier League opponents on Tuesday July 27 (7:45pm) meaning the trip to Crewe, penned in for the same date, has been cancelled.
It will be Villa’s final game before they play Benfica and Feyenoord in the Guadiana Cup in Portugal, which starts on July 30.
From the Walsall Site.
-
Ace.
I'll be there.
-
Was just about to ask about any possible Walsall fixture given we didn't play there last pre season.

Every bloody pre-season for about the last 15 years isn't it?
It's pretty much our 39th game.

Heard today that we are playing Bohemians away in Dublin on 24th July

I wonder if Villa will be given any tickets for the games. It will be near impossible trying to get tickets over here for the Benfica game, which is guaranteed to sell out. On the plus side, as it will be televised, it should be possible to get a stream for the game.

Looks like we'll have to cancel our holiday.
-

-
You guys will not last the distance with the drinkers in Dublin!
-
I couldn't afford to.
-
The pubs are quite expensive but the booze is really good!
-
Been told today that you can pay up to £8 for a pint, with the exchange rate, etc.
How true that is I don't know.

Some of the pubs get a bit more expensive towards the end of a night (usually the trendy/posh establishments) but the most I've ever paid (while already quite drunk) was about €6.
£8 sounds a bit too steep...can't see that happening.

Nice one. I shall go and tell said informant that he was talking bollocks. He's a Utd fan anyway. I should've known.

Unless he was talking about some sort of establishment where you get more than a drink for your 8 quid...but in the bars/clubs, nah, you'd never pay that!
-
Further details of the friendly can be found on astonvilla.ie, the Irish Lions site.
Check out the video on the left of us watching villa beat small heath alliance away! It was awesome in Murray's that day!
-

C'mon Lee ................. we all know how much you teachers earn ....... don't play the poverty card with us chap ;-)
If your going over, I will buy you one in Murrarys mate.

You going down Auntie P? I was there a fortnight ago if you need any tips etc.
-
Who else is venturing over to Dublin ??
-
For those of us in the know, (and wearing Villa colours), you can get a jug of Carlsberg/Fosters in Murrays for a tenner, on match days, which works out to about €3 a pint.
-
What about Smithwicks??

Jon had been talking about it and, if he's ordered the tickets, I take it we must be going.
I'll come to you for tips when it is confirmed. Many thanks Ian.
-
What about Smithwicks??
plenty of it try it with a guinness head divine!
-
Tickets sorted for the Algarve games.
Five star service from Ms. Keye.
-
erm, yep it appears we are going to Portugal.
I thought Jon was just 'looking into it' this morning, but, no he's booked.
-
Feck, just realised Villa are playing in Dublin. Anyone going? I remember O'Dreary's first few weeks in charge Villa played in a four team tournament with Leeds, St Pats and Shelbourne. Barry sheepishly accepted the shield after we won the final. I seem to remember Allback and Angel gelling pretty well that weekend. My mate got hit in the nuts by a wayward Peter Crouch shot during the warm-up.
-
3 weeks tomorrow I'll be on the way to Dublin......meet up with some good mates........celebrate my ** birthday and wet my newly arrived grand daughter's head - cant wait
Whether we see any new signings is neither here nor there but I expect a couple of first team squad to have left VP
-
got my tickets and celebrate my **th birthday on the thursday fond memories of the tournament especially the leeds fans good singers
-
Yep, looking forward to it. Only going for the day mind, but should be good.
-

I can't help thinking praising Leeds fans for being good singers is a bit like saying the Hitler Youth always tidied their bedrooms.
-
we were in the pub and they were in good form

I'm with dave on this one.

Throw in me celebrating my wedding (that just took place in Florida), and me thinks a great weekend will be had Mr M!

I was there last season, it was a good day. It's a shame it's on a Monday night this time. At the game, we were standing close to some very pissed up bloke who decided it was a good idea to try and swing from the rafters of the roof, before he fell to the floor knackering his ankle and growing another head.

On the brightside, you won't be in the Falkland Islands for it!

It is a shame it's a Monday night, but I expect I'll still try and be there. I was also very near to that bloke last season. It was pretty surreal to see a bloke of his age attempting that!
