Strong side. Thought we might have seen Doug and Tammy. Maybe influenced by both Brighton and Bournemouth winning yesterday. Let’s win the game and make CL qualification pretty much a certainty.

Barkley in the 10 again? Wasn't exactly mobile at pressing Spurs from there.

Team makes sense, and why not keep playing Lindelof in that role, he did very well the other night, is fresher than most of the first team and may yet need to play there in the finall too so let's get him used to it.

He at least has McGinn to help do some of that pressing this time as well.

Win please Villa.

I wouldn’t of started Ty, but other than that a strong team.

I guess the thought is we have to keep him match fit should anything happen to Torres in the coming weeks. Somebody on here also mentioned that at the end of the Forest game Torres looked absolutely knackered so he deserves a rest.
Title: Re: Burnley v Aston Villa Match Thread
Post by: Somniloquism on May 10, 2026, 01:15:04 PM
Lindelof was knackered so I was surprised he has started. Torres was subbed off with the game won for the last few mins but that might have been to give Mings a final European hurrah at home.

The main problem with Konsa and Mings is that when they play together they slow the whole game down to many passes across the back getting no where, neither has any real creativity yet they get a lot of the ball
Hope it won’t be to important today

Barkley in the 10 again? Wasn't exactly mobile at pressing Spurs from there.

He was beyond useless there. Wouldn't mind him so much at 6 like he was v West Ham.

I know Emery needs to use the squad but would have preferred Mings on the bench too.

It doesn't need to be half arsed though. Go out there and play like we can and we have 10 days before the final and can then half arse it. We now need to get points against Liverpool and potentially citeh if they don't buck up their ideas today.

As much as we love Tyrone the game at this level has passed him by. He was always casual in possession but he’s also slower overall now. He offers nothing to the transitional side of our game either.

TBF I'm only going on a freeze frame I saw. The problem with the semi-auto stuff is they remove everything else from the picture where at least the lines let you see for sure exactly where the ball is from as well. But it did look like Rogers was behind the defender which is why I think the ball was as well or almost level.

As well as completing at least 11 more passes than any other player in the first half (41), Ezri Konsa was the only player with a 100% pass accuracy.

Konsa making a late push to be England's number 10 at the World Cup?

Really good second half of the first half for Villa. Good from Burnley to start the game, full of energy as we've said. Got a goal up, massive chance for Zian Flemming to potentially go 2-0 up. He misses it and then Villa come back at Burnley and then the offside goal was a tight call. Barkley gets the equaliser from a corner. A fair result on that balance of play.

All our players are too secure in the first eleven.

Due to a combination of Unai having his favorites and poor recruitment, there’s not enough genuine competition for places, which results in a lack of urgency in games like this.

How many out there are desperate to prove themselves?

It would be nice to have one or two players chomping at the bit.

VAR has value if implemented correctly. But I agree it completely dulls the spontaneous nature of being a football fan. There would have been so many incredible moments throughout the history of the game at all levels denied us if VAR existed in years gone by.

We were poor in the first half and it was perhaps likely that there would be some level of hangover from Thursday night.

However, the reason it is 1-1 is because Emi screwed up on their goal plus Maatsen was asleep and then Rogers missed a really good chance when SJM picked him out - otherwise it might be 2-0 to us and comfortable.

Mings is (probably) reduced to be a back-up option, but I don't see him being responsible for why this is 1-1. UTV

Absolutely pathetic. Cash crying for a free and once again a gaping space in front of the 18 yard box. Relegated team being allowed to pass the ball into the net.

We're drawing 2-2 in a game that means very little.

Rogers has been so poor.

When he needs to do the very simple stuff he can look really poor. It’s just that when he does the good things, especially running at teams he looks superb. Like the rest of the side we don’t have a solid 7/8 out 10 with anyone. Plus I think he’s just not a player as a top side we can rely on. If he’s got a top player or two with him he can blend in. We’re asking a lot of him to be “the” man.
