Well done to Keely Hodgkinson on breaking the indoor 800m world record, which was set nearly 24 years ago, superb stuff.
-
Broke it by nearly a second as well. The record she broke was set on the day she was born.
-
I've just applied as a volunteer for the European Athletics Champs in August.

Just got tickets for session with women's 100m Final. A few seem to be selling out so you might want to move quickly if you want tickets.

That should be very enjoyable, especially with SQ bringing the beers to your seat.
-
It's the least he can do.
-
Fuck off will I. Might just piss in some glasses and state all they are selling is Carling.
-
I'll take my chances.

I certainly wouldn't order a chocolate milkshake.

Definitely would rather have the piss.

It'll be just like normal watching women running away from you.

Yes, but some of them will be from fancy countries.

Was it CD who Sarah Mee had the restraining order against?
-
You've lost me (had to Google her).
-
Might have been Joe_C then.

Might have been Joe_C then.
Possibly, I think Elizabeth Olsen is more CD's cup of tea.
-
She's a handsome girl but probably relatively unlikely to participate in the European Athletics Championship.
-
Olsen sounds Nordic, I'm sure they can find a way to fit her in.
-
Popped the athletics on half an hour and Britain have won three golds in that time. Not bad.

Kenya's Sabastian Sawe becomes first runner to break two hour barrier in marathon.

Second placed Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha also ran in it in under 2 hours, amazing.
-
But could he do it on a wet Tuesday night in Bolton? 😁
-
As someone who now finds a 30.minute parkrun increasingly out of reach, a sub-2 hour marathon beggars belief.
-
It's easy when you're running through a lawless Islamist no-go area. The poor lad must've been terrified.

At least he will be able to outrun the robots China are training up.

It looks like the new Adidas trainers played their part. All of the top 3 in the marathon were wearing them yesterday, and they made them much lighter and springier than the previous iteration. I think I read that for elite athletes, the new shoes were saving about 1% in running economy, which over two hours is about a minute, and that's what Sawe knocked off the old world record.
Obviously there's a lot more to it than that, and Sawe is genuinely a Usain Bolt-like freak for long distance running, but the shoes certainly helped.
-
4 minute mile pace for a marathon is absolutely insane.

Got a job driving. What or who I will be driving I have no idea.

BBC report on the Euro's in Birmingham along with showing that they can't be bothered to look things up and just stole directions off the BCU website which is out of date, instead of looking on the official Birmingham26 site.

New mile world record for Josh Kerr.
Impressive that, especially given that his second pacemaker dropped out ahead of schedule (according to Cram)
NB - Up until this afternoon, I'd never heard of Josh Kerr

Yeah, I am surprised at that (if you have any interest in athletics).

Quite small laps in the city centre and neither finish in the stadium.
