Unai Emery's programme notes: "We must offer our best version as a whole stadium, from the stands to the pitch. We need your power, energy and understanding in every single ball. A fortress must be a fortress as this will be a top difficulty match."

From October

Quote
Aston Villa is pleased to announce the signing of Mohamed Koné from ASEC Mimosas.

A highly-rated midfielder who has attracted plenty of admirers, Koné joins from one of the leading clubs and academies in Ivory Coast. ASEC Mimosas have produced several high-profile players over the years including the likes of Yaya and Kolo Touré and more recently Odilon Kossounou, Karim Konaté and Touré Bazoumana.

An Under-20 and Under-23 international for his country, Koné graduated from the ASEC’s MimoSifcom Academy and then became a part of the ASEC first team at the age of just 17.

Kone spent a number of weeks at Bodymoor Heath prior to joining the club officially in the summer and he has been playing with the Aston Villa Under-21s team since the start of this season, recently scoring his first competitive goal against Peterborough United in the Vertu Trophy.

Mohamed’s move to Villa is a symbol of the close relationship between Aston Villa and ASEC and signals the start of a productive relationship.

As part of this ongoing relationship, the Club have also invited ASEC to play matches in the UK as well as to Cairo for tournaments at our partner club, ZED FC.

Plenty of chances given to guys tonight anyway. Barkley at 10 and Rogers on left it looks like. Worried about playing Luiz again, fourth game in 2 weeks for us and he was in bits coming off during the week.

Dare I ask why Elliott has disappeared again from the squad?

God knows - I suspect we may not see him again at this rate. He did nothing v Brentford and half a dozen half decent games from Bailey may mean we get a better Return on Investment on and off the pitch.

Alysson injured?
Alysson not included in the squad due to picking up a knock in training. The initial sense is that it is just a precaution, having felt something small.

I'd have taken off Barkley. He will only have another 15 or 20mins in him anyway. Bailey was playing well.

45 mins with 10 men is the last thing we need. Crazy game to be honest. Rogers on left has been very good, Luiz outstanding, Tammy and Lindelof very good.

Bailey wasn't that bad was he? Seems like I am alone in thinking he was alright, some good and some bad. Slipped for the red card incident. But I like how he has been so involved and around the box, he looks good. His problems come when he picks the ball up deeper.

Shame cos I was quite enjoying that, had hoped we could've kicked on and started to find our groove again. Now we've got 45 mins of backs against the wall, with our knackered midfield getting even more knackered.

The narrative is the nasty Villa hatchet men have somehow found themselves a goal up, but that will soon be corrected. The Bizot foul wasn’t OTT.

If it was the other way round we'd be livid the goal stood, livid Digne is still on, livid if their keeper had stayed on and we'd have wanted a pen

Don't think it was a pen. The rest - yep lucky not to be down to 9.

Yeh I can see that also. Had he been clean through on goal no contest, straight red. But he was still a long way out and on the left now down the middle. A yellow for me as well. Stupid tackle though and even more so being that far out.

We were due a bit of luck with decisions - but think we may be back even again.

What the hell bizot was thinking -  if your doing it do it more subtle don’t do it knew hight and he might have had a chance

Olsen never had that problem

Not really, the signed one could've been a red and we got lucky with the goal but that's it. Talk of 3 penalties is silly because none of them were even 50/50, and Bizot did get the expected red.

Decent half and then an idiotic passage of play in added time.  Bailey isn't the player you want pissing around with short corners, caught out completely at the back and then Bizot is rash and gets sent off.

Don Hutchinson on ESPN is such a wanker. Saying Trippier should be telling the ref at HT to even up the fact Villa didn’t have their goal disallowed. That’s what Liverpool used to do all the time apparently.

Stupid no look round the corner pass straight to their defender who knocked it long.

Another six or seven in the second half and one or two of them might have come off.

Rarely do I turn off but when the BBC are Newcastle TV, it's not difficult.

And we fully deserved to lose.

Thought Bogarde had played really well up to then.

He had. I didn't want to say anything in case of cursing it though.

Shame Bogarde had been brilliant I thought.

Never mind - was pretty certain we’re never winning the FA Cup again.

Bizot and Digne have been awful and to be fair we don’t deserve anything

To be fair Bogarde has given them two goals. He’s a young player, but two bad errors.

Stemmed from us near their corner flag, and Ollie underhitting a simple pass when there was a chance to put them under pressure.

Can look at the GK's 'mare first half but Bailey and Watkins should have a bit more cop on, in all honesty.

Not exactly young players making their way in the game.

Tonali not scored all season, Woltemade not scored in 14 games.

You too - we had the ball back - blaming Watkins just shows your bias

We will, just not in your lifetime.

Will we ever win any trophy again.

We will, but not this one.

Time to give Garcia a run out as he would give us so much more going forward.

It did, but we had recovered in part due to Watkins working back. Borgarde is not good enough on the ball to be trying to do that.

At least that’s over and done with. I’ve had more pleasant visits to a proctologist.

Poor pass but Digne could still have won it if he was more on it. He seemed to move and then slow down.
