Look on the positive side and think of it as (enforced) rotation for one league game. He's played a lot of minutes, so a two week break at this stage of the season isn't the end of the world.

I’m sure we got everyone finally fit around February, but we struggled up to then with our defence being a different back four every match and missed Kamara for a huge chunk.

Hmm - not the team I would have gone with.

Want to see Luiz and Onana control the midfield - I think that will be key.   Winston at RB could be an issue

Would have gone with Tammy - but Watkins loves a goal against Brighton.  UTV

Torres hasnt been great lately to be fair, Newcastle and Brentford a bit meh. But I'd be a bit worried about Mings hitting the red zone himself tonight in terms of fatigue/injury - must be his fourth game in about three weeks since coming back from a long injury.  Would have thought Torres was a cert to come back in.

Luiz - third game in 11 days too.

That Bogarde/Sancho flank could be a dead zone tonight. Getting Lindelof back in and switching Konsa over to RB would have been more logical. Bogarde was completely lost v Salzburg at RB.

It makes me think that Unai and the coaching team push these guys to the limits to the extent they burn out. Maybe that’s the only way to get them playing at a level to compete with more expensive squads.

There was a stat that came out that our players cover the least amount of ground of any team in the league, and that we press the 3rd lowest amount of any team.

No queues at the Witton Arms again. The Warehouse Kwikfit seems to have nabbed a lot of its customers.

I don’t mind Mings and Konsa - last season they were so solid together in the second half of the season but not so convinced about Bogarde, Onana and Watkins.

Kendrick has as well

Mat Kendrick - Football editor, Birmingham Live

I've been banging on about the Villa Park atmosphere - or lack of it - lately. And with three home games in 10 days I'm at it again. We're still in the Champions League places, still in the FA Cup and through to the knockout stages of the Europa League.
We're still on the verge of making this an historic season and as Aston Villa supporters we really need to play our part. In my opinion the responsibility for driving this team over the line lies as much with us in the stands as it does with Unai Emery in the dugout and the players on the pitch.
The club has done its bit to put us in a fantastic position by giving us a world-class manager and a brilliant squad, but too often us fans seem infected by nervousness. It’s not that there's the presence of negativity at VP, it’s more an absence of positivity that settles over the ground.
We’ve got to get past this mental block where we only find our voices for the massive grudge matches or when there's a scalp. It's easy as a fanbase to be up for it against our bogey team Manchester United or league leaders Arsenal. How do we summon up similar fervour for less animosity fixtures against lower profile opponents?
Every single game is high jeopardy because the stakes are so high, but that seems to promote anxiety rather than excitement. I've heard the argument that football is so methodical that it's hard to crank up the atmosphere when the centre-backs are passing between themselves. Surely the onus is on us to fill those lulls with chants of positivity?
The players clearly feed off us, too. Why do you think Emi Martinez tries to whip up the Holte after making a big save or Matty Cash does likewise with the Trinity after a crunching tackle? It does make a difference, it must make a difference. Even Ollie Watkins referenced the flat atmosphere recently.
We need to ditch that damaging sense of entitlement and stop waiting for the team to entertain us before we decide to get loud. It's hard. We're a collective, but we're also a crowd made up of 40,000 individuals with different stresses, strains and ways of supporting our team.
I’ll be the first to admit my own matchday inhibitions. I don’t start chants at the top of the Trinity for fear of being on my own (or waking up my neighbours!). But each of us, in our own special way, needs to bring the same energy we demand of our heroes.
If any of them went missing they'd get a 5 out of 10 player rating or lower, but what about us? What do we need to do to get a 10 out of 10 fan rating? It’s time to park the anxiety, forget the hard day at work, and really bring the noise for these final home games.
Up the Villa 🦁

Watkins has been universally poor in that half.

If we're being honest, apart from the odd bright spark, he's been pretty shit all season.

I note nobody ever mentions his peerless parallel parking.

Luiz showing why he couldn't get in a shit Forest side.

Really? Set pieces havent been great but I think he's played well. Gets turned on ball nicely in midfield under pressure. Something Onana isn't capable of.

Rogers, Buendia, Watkins particularly been poor. Martinez annoying me a bit too delaying his distribution letting these cloggers push up.

Wouldn't change it at half time but Barkley in for Buendia with Rogers shifting left is a likely early change. Torres for Mings too, that might be the braver tactical call. Mings has been decent defensively but a real struggle to play out with him.

Been one of our better players and he’s, so far, looking to do something positive rather than just recycle possession. He’s faded a bit mainly because he’s not getting the ball enough now.

Terrible half. We never got going, too slow in possession all over the park.

Players need to step up. Take some responsibility and try and create something.

They can't rely on Rogers all of the time. One thing for sure, if they play like this they have no chance of getting top 5. We can all put our calculators and spreadsheets away.

We’re proving all those who doubted us they were correct. Part of the doubt was if we got injuries would we be able to stay the course? Obviously not by the recent results and inconsistencies. But the xg thing as annoying as it is provides some indication of chance creation leading to goals. And once the long range bombs stopped it exposed that we don’t create good chances and when we get them we don’t take them.

Had we not lost the players we did in quick succession I wonder what our January would have looked like. It might not have required us to move on Malen to bring in Gallagher which turned into Tammy and Doug. Off the bench he certainly offered us a spark. Something we are sorely missing right now.
